Teen With Nooses Gets Jail Time

    Jeremiah Munsen of Colfax, Louisiana, admitted in court back in April that he placed two nooses on the back of his pickup truck on September 20, and pleaded guilty to a federal hate crime of threatening and intimidating marchers near Jena, Louisiana [click to read].

    Now, the Louisiana 19-year-old has been sentenced to prison for four months, according to the Associated Press.

    Munsen faced up to one year in prison after he pleaded guilty in April to a misdemeanor charge of interfering with the marchers’ federally protected right to travel.

    The marchers were waiting in Alexandria for a bus ride home to Tennessee, and had been protesting the criminal cases against six black teenagers charged with beating a white student at Jena High School in 2006.

    Initially, the students were charged with second-degree attempted murder and conspiracy. After nationwide criticism, the charges were reduced.
