After appearing on De La Soul‘s last album, The Grind Date, and mixtape, Mission Impossible, New York’s Butta Verses is preparing his long-awaited debut album Reality BV, releasing on September 30.
After being groomed and signed by De La‘s deejay Maseo, the album, Brand Spankin, was released digital-only in February of 2006, reportedly unknown to Butta. Thus, his second album finds the Bronx-born, Florida resident stepping into his own.
The album is available on Culture Kings Music. Fans can hear recent Verses material on CL Smooth‘s recent album, The Outsider.
In other news, legendary deejay and radio personality DJ Kay Slay began his Hip Hop journey nearly 20 years ago as “Dez,” a Bronx graffiti writer, who was featured in the acclaimed documentary Style Wars.
In the decades since, Slay has gone on to be one of the most respected deejays in the game, instrumental in early career success of 50 Cent, Saigon and his own artist, Papoose. Known as “the drama king,” Slay is still competitive in his craft, and has started several very public rivalries with other deejays and artists.
This Saturday, the Hip Hop veteran will be spinning in Brooklyn, at the gallery opening of “Legends of Style,” an exhibition including work from graffiti icons Stay High 149, T Kid 170 and Snake 1. The opening, this weekend, will see appearances by most of the artists and a performance by Kay Slay and The Fearless Four.
