Only a week after the release of the Notorious B.I.G. biopic Notorious [click to read], People magazine has released a story that takes a look at the murder of Notorious B.I.G., and why his murder has remained unsolved for so long.

In the story, which is entitled “Will the Biggie Case Ever Be Solved?” writer Oliver Jones speaks with Voletta Wallace and retired NYPD Detective Derrick Parker regarding the murder.

On March 9, 1997 Biggie was gunned down after attending a party hosted by Vibe magazine in Los Angeles. Biggie was pronounced dead roughly 30 minutes after the shooting. Although several suspects and motives have been brought up in the case, it still remains unsolved even as the twelfth anniversary of Biggie‘s death approaches.

“It hurts that this has been dragging on for so long,” Voletta Wallace told People magazine. “There’s a little nudge now and then, but then we have to wait and wait and wait. But you have to understand: I have all the time in the world. I’m not going anywhere.”

The case has been led by three different investigators, and at one point, several LAPD officers were named in a lawsuit filed by Wallace and the estate of the Notorious B.I.G. [click to read].

“To be honest I don’t think it will see its day in court anytime soon because of the numerous problems with the case,” Parker explained. “No disrespect to the LAPD, but every time they get a new set of detectives on it, it fizzles out. They lose a lot.”

March 9, 2009 will mark the twelfth anniversary of Biggie‘s death.
