Lil Yachty Quits Social Media After Controversial Drake Song Leak & Fashion Comments

Lil Yachty is stepping away from the internet amid blow-back from recent statements he made about leaking a song with Drake, among other things.

During an appearance on the Flagrant podcast this week, Lil Boat talked about leaking his Drizzy-assisted song “Super Soak” after not being able to get the sample cleared.

“I sent a song to Kai [Cenat] to leak. We couldn’t get the sample cleared so I just let Kai play it. [So that’s not coming out] but it’s everywhere. [The influencer we sampled] went down like a Christian path [so he wouldn’t clear it],” he explained.

Just before that on his own podcast, Yachty claimed that his hometown of Atlanta is the real trendsetter when it comes to fashion and that the Big Apple has been biting the A’s style – which sparked a ton of negative responses from people including Juelz Santana and Fivio Foreign.

In response to all the backlash, Yachty hopped on his Instagram Live on Thursday (August 1) and declared that he’d be taking time away from social media.

“I’m getting the fuck off the internet. I’m not doing no more talking,” he said. “I don’t got shit else to say. I’m gone off this Internet shit. I think I’m gone for the rest of the year. I swear to God. I ain’t talking. I ain’t got shit else to say. I’m contracted to do this podcast shit, unfortunately.”

He concluded: “But I ain’t posting no more shit. I’m not posting no fits. I’m deleting the apps off my phone, I swear to God. I’m not tweeting. I’m minding my fucking business, man.”

Regarding the ATL vs. NYC fashion, Lil Yachty had originally said to podcast guest and New York native Cash Cobain:

“I feel like New York didn’t have this — I don’t want to say identity — but everyone used to just kinda copy Atlanta. You said it yourself. Even, like, the influence was extremely heavy from Atlanta […] As far as style goes, I don’t think it’s shit going on when it comes to New York fashion.”

Lil Boat also took particular aim at people from the Bronx and Queens: “I feel just people on those outskirts — Queens, Bronx — do they even come to [Manhattan to shop]?”

It didn’t take long for some of New York’s finest to hit back at Lil Yachty for his remarks, with Juelz Santana taking to Instagram to issue a rebuttal.

“WE all Love Atl But did @lilyachty SAY say the flyes [ninja emoji] N the Most TRENDSETTERS Came from ALT WOW Much love bro,” he wrote.

He then highlighted the fashion influence that both himself and fellow Dipset rapper Jim Jones have had on Hip Hop culture, as well as the impact of other fashion-forward NYC figures like A$AP Rocky and Fabolous.

Fivio also chimed in, writing on X: “How Yatchy say ATL dress better then ny w a whole NY fit.”

Following the backlash, Lil Yachty attempted to clarify his comments in a video posted to TikTok.

“When you go back to a certain time, it’s for sure New York. But if you think about lately, all the trends come from Atlanta!” he said. “First off, I got nothing but love for New York. I think a lot of the flyest people in the world were born in New York.

He added: “I apologize to the Bronx if they feel some kind of way about that comment. Amiri down, do your thing. I be in New York so don’t fucking rob me. It was a joke.”

However, he was also adamant about Atlanta being the more influential city on the fashion scene.
