This past Sunday’s airing of the Grammy Awards show featured some of music biggest acts including Mary J. Blige, Maxwell, and Beyonce. Lil Wayne, Drake, and Eminem also made appearances, performing both “Forever,” and “Drop the World” during the latter half of the telecast. However, for those who caught the show live, lyrics during the performance were consistently censored out, causing somewhat of a distraction for viewers.
CBS, which aired the awards show, explained why it censored so much of the only Hip Hop performance that night. “It was a rousing musical performance,” CBS told the Associated Press, “but words were edited from the live telecast that didn’t meet our broadcast standards. We have great respect for artists’ creative freedom, but there are certain things you can’t say, or sing on television.”
Below is the original airing of the performance.
Bullshit…
they went WAY too far with the editing…
The grammys STILL dont take hip hop as serious as the other genres.. point blank.
I agree because the other so called “un-edited” version was not as choppy. Practically the whole song is missing, maybe Drake, Eminem, and Lil Wayne should have rapped about flowers?
Agreed bro, it’s been this way since hip hop’s birth. I don’t know whem it will change. All we can do is put more GOOD hip hop artists on the spotlight to help our cause instead of these garbage club rappers.
wakka flakka…how can you say “instead of these garbage club rapper” your name is WAKKA FLAKKA…..???
The editing on that performance was way overboard……….They let it run un-edited a few places tho, its on youtube……….
Good performances all around and I dont even like Wayne or Drake, but credit where its due, they got it in at the grammys

Okay let me be the one to go against the grain. I don’t think CBS went too far,I think they did the appropiate thing. If you noticed the both of the performance the only person was badly bleeped out was Lil Wayne and thats because his verse was filled with profanity. Drake and Em verses had a couple but not like Lil Waynes. Other than they gave a hell of a performance. Side not Lil Wayne need to wear loser clothes, you must shop in the kids sections, lmao
i think that they should of censored the whole song, its such garbage, 3 of the worst rappers all time on a track 2gether thats some gay shit. eminem is washed up he look like he had a stroke on stage and lil wayne looks like he shit himself, drake is just straight up a bed wetter. No homo but this shit was soft to the dick yo. straight butt riding for the 2010 no joke its all gay all the way until you say hey no more gay
And I bet you listen to Waka Flocka, Gucci Mane, OJ da Juiceman and Soulja Boy you dumb fuck. I’m not much of a Wayne fan, or much of a Drake fan, but I don’t deny their talent. Wayne just wastes his by releasing a really good song, then 5 bad songs. Drake gets more hype than he deserves, B.o.B is a much more talented up and coming rapper. And Eminem is just Eminem. He will lyrically shit on any rapper you listen to.
LOL
Wakka FLakka is a big steamy pile of Wakka KAKKA!
@B_LETT
No disrespect brova, but I know alot of MCs who are very capable of dismantling Eminem. Don’t get me wrong, he’s a phenomenal lyricist, probably the best the industry has now. There are slew of MCs much more talented than Eminem, they just don’t get the proper shine they deserve…word to Masta Ace, Evidence, Cormega, Reks, Planet Asia, Sick Jacken, Terminology, DOOM, and Defari.
if it didnt meet broadcast standards, then y have them perform those songs in the first place. and didnt they perform the clean versions of those songs, i know the clean versions arent completely clean, but they also didnt require that much bleeping bleeping. one last thing, is it me are where they bleeping things that werent even close to being profane. it seems to me the grammys are still scared that hip hop artist are gonna go off script and thats why they stay trigger happy with all that bleeping bleeping.
it’s 2010 and we hater free, but if u need someone to hate, than hate me
so many bleeps thye shouldnt even have it on air at all
I saw a different telecast of the peformance and they didnt curse ONCE. CBS is just a bunch of pussies
damn the man, lol. yea CBS is on some bullshit but then again we all know Em can’t drop a verse without talkin about butt-fucking…
Funny thing is that if you get the “uncut” version online you’ll notice the rappers censored themselve pretty well. There wasn’t anything worth blocking.
Hell all of CBS sitcoms uses “ass” and “bitch” almost every episode.
Anyone who says they needed to be censored cuz it has profanity, needs to watch the “uncensored” version. Lil wayne says nigga once at the beginning, but otherwise NO ONE cussed. They actually rehearsed it censored. So CBS knew. I still don’t get why they don’t give hip hop respect. If you look at the top songs and albums of the year, 90% are hip hop or R&B related. But they’re stuck on Bruce Springsteen and Bob Dylan shit. And to the ignorant people who take this post as an opportunity to say “Eminem/Drake/Lil Wayne are gay” need to just go back to class. If you like hip hop, then support it, otherwise you’re hurting the thing you say you love.
em is one of dA GOATS
but wayne n drake= fags
that comment is what I’m talking about. You don’t have to like them, but they’re hip hop, so at least support them. And please appear more intelligent by making a better argument.
how can you contradict yourself like that? you say you want them to respect Hip Hop but here you go disrespecting Bruce Springsteen/Bob Dylan who were GIANTS in their respective genre’s of music. if you dont like other kinds of music, you dont have to support it, but if you want your music to matter and be respected you better be willing to respect the craft of others.
Actually I never “disrespected” either of them. I was just saying that they are always represented at the Grammy’s, even if they NEVER put anything out during the year. I never said whether I like or dislike them. I listen to all kinds of music, but hip hop is by far my favorite. So no, I did not contradict myself by saying that, they were just two of many examples I could have used.
i stuck my dick inside the grammy’s until that bitch cayme
Good 1
i said it once and i’ll say it again..the only reason im mad at CBS is cuz they aint censor the whole performance!!
WELL I’M GONNA SAY SOMETHING TO ALL THE REAL/SO CALLED REAL HIP HOP FANS CAUSE IT SEEMS YALL ASSES DON’T GET IT, THE GRAMMYS DON’T GIVE A FUCC ABOUT HIP HOP,NEVER DID,AND THEY JUST PUT IT ON TO GET A COUPLE OF RATINGS POINTS, now stop crying about the shit, you muthafuccas know they don’t give a shit yet cry about it,it’s a mute fucc’n point, hell so called real hip hop shows don’t care about the culture why you think it’s no graf awards or b boy awards or real dj and not just that mixtape dj award shit, it’s like they act like this part of the culture doesn’t exist anymore, until you bitch ass cunts start making a big deal outta that,i advise you all to shut the fucc up the citizen has spoken yell
http://www.myspace.com/panhandoelrcorp
I’m sorry, but I don’t understand what the FUCK “the citizen” said. Maybe if you put into words what your thinking, maybe I would be able to have an intelligent discussion with you. All I got from what you said was that we need to stop crying about hip hop and the Grammy’s? But then you cry about it yourself. Nice contradiction. Or maybe they were all just typos. And btw it’s spelled “moot” not “mute”
They should have set them on fire Michael Jackson style.
um… “explains”? Where’s the explanation?

there is a “web//site” named “blackwhiteloving” for dateing or relationship, black or white singles can go there to find something sexy or beauty online !!!!
So CBS censored the word “fuck” from a primetime hip-hop performance. I can’t be the only one NOT AT ALL surprised by this.
FUCK YOUR FAVORITE RAPPER NIGGA.
First to all you halfwits supporting the censoring did you not even watch the video on this page? There isnt any profanity AT ALL! Wayne lets nigga slip one time and then nothing. Also this was by far the top performance of the evening and the tv audience couldnt even hear it. And to the usual haters trying to put down hip hop and two of the most dedicated emcees ever, please lose that extra hater chromosome because you sound RETARDED to anyone who knows there shit. PATHETIC. 1
I think that CBS was correct and are in their right to censor their programming, BUT more than anything, I think that those rappers should do like some rappers did back in the 90s, and what some still do like the B.E.P. They alter some of their lyrical content, but replace words that don’t change the intent.
For instance, instead of saying fuck, they could say funk, and use started instead of retarded. These are basic examples, that are used constantly, (Meth used funk instead of fuck on the grammy song with Mary J., and the BEP used started instead of retarder for the NBA ad, since most people know the original lyrics, it’s not a big deal, and it’s better to listen to a fluid song and transmission instead of those awkward mutes. I honestly thought that my HD Comcast was failing me.
Shut up. BEP hasnt made “hip hop” since theyve had Fergie. They suck now. Why should I compromise my art because Im going to perform it on televison.
