To commemorate the twentieth anniversary of Public Enemy’s influential album Fear Of A Black Planet, founding member Chuck D and The Bomb Squad producers Hank and Keith Shocklee will take part in an all-day celebration event this Thursday in Iowa City, Iowa.
Along with attending classes throughout the day at the University of Iowa, the three legendary artists will also take questions in an interview with the colleges’ KRUI radio station at 12:30 p.m. The day’s festivities will come to a close with a panel discussion from 7-8:30 p.m. in downtown Iowa at the Englert Theater, which is free and open to the public. The panel event, entitled “Fear of a Black Planet, 20 Years Later,” will be moderated by co-curator Kembrew McLeod, who also co-produced the highly-acclaimed documentary Copyright Criminals.
Wow. Hard to believe that album dropped 20 years ago. Still a masterpiece. Saw Chuck speak at Temple University’s Hip Hop 101 a few years back, brother definately knows his stuff. A true legend, although he is very humble.
Co-sign… met Chuck a couple times. Very humble and down to earth cat. Video is classic but that wasn’t from this album. Still a classic though.

I’ve met Chuck a couple of times and he is a real cool guy. Very humble and down to earth. Video is a classic… although that wasn’t on Fear of a Black Planet… they should have posted Welcome to the Terrordome or Fight the Power with this article. Still my favorite PE album though. Classic in every sense of the word.

i was 11 when it dropped and i do remember it not getting the greatest reviews but who cars it is classic!!!
I was 13 and my pops who was a PE fan got me a copy. I remember loving to read the liner notes. Terrordome was a crazy single. Im gonna break my old tape tonight!
Was old boy in the video suppose to be McCain??
Black Planet’z my favourite PE LP, but I waz disappointed da sax solo was jettisoned at da end of Fight the Power. Still a great album that livez up to the KRS adage “Edutainment”. Most hip-hop nowadayz iz neither an edifyin’ experience nor regalin’. Dope artwork az well.
Just caught their show in Orlando.
