DX News Bits: Summer Jam, Dame Dash Resurrects Roc-A-Fella

Hot97 is moving their Summer Jam over to the New Meadowlands Sports Complex and fans can expect the usual slew of stars to come through. Angie Martinez announced the bill recently, one that features appearances from Ludacris, Nicki Minaj and more.

Usher, Trey Songz, Drake, Gucci Mane, Fabolous, DJ Khaled, Juelz Santana,Talib Kweli & Hi-Tek as Reflections Eternal and Rick Ross will be performing.

Summer Jam will be held on Sunday, June 6.

In other news, Damon Dash is bringing Roc-A-Fella back. After the Roc was disbanded with talk of beef between longtime partners Jay-Z, Dash and Kareem ‘Biggs’ Burke, the Roc-A-Fella name was left untouched and Dash says he is happy to pick it back up. Curren$y has been picked as the first artist to release a project under the label that Dash has resurrected, with his Pilot Talk album coming out June 15.

Dash recently spoke about this with MTV, saying the idea came from Curren$y.

“It was really more something he wanted to do. Basically, ’cause we havin’ such a good time, and the opportunity’s there, we was like, ‘Why not?'”

Dash also explained the move with further detail.

“Def Jam or Universal bought the brand. I think the ‘beef’ [with us and Jay-Z] was that Jay made it clear he didn’t want me or Biggs to be a part of it. That’s really where it was at. Now that he doesn’t work for Def Jam anymore, he doesn’t have the right to use the name. So there’s no reason for us not to use it. It’s there, and it’s a brand that’s not being used. So I was like, ‘I’ll take it.’ It always meant something to me.”

Dash added that he has a new deal with L.A. Reid and Def Jam for distribution. Expect more from Roc-A-Fella as Ski Beatz’s 24 Hour Karate School mixtape is up next.

    1. Dame, you need to let go bruh. We ON TO THE NEXT ONE homes. I thought dude was declared bankrupt or smthing.nyway he looks sad Curren$y?? Really? Roc-a-fella is dead lets jus leave it @ that n hang on to the memories of the greatest dynasty of our generation

      1. Not exactly man. Dame can really bring out that real hip hop this time around. Not only that, the focus will be on up and coming artists with more back up for marketing. Jay never did nothing with the label while at Def Jam as well as him not focusing on artists’ promotion (LL, Red, Meth, Ghost). So, Dame can actually put out quality hip hop.

    2. In all respects Dame is the real business man, he’s the one that makes something out of nothing. He’s the one that plants the seeds of destiny and has that vision as opposed to just taking the ball and running with it. So go ahead and bring it!

    3. if u go to rocafella.com there are only three artist on that label Kanye, Jadakiss, Jay-Z and Beanie Seigel this whole Rocafella thing is fucking confusing…Dame needs to let it go but Spitta is so good tho, i jus wish it was under a different label name too many memories of the dynasty

    4. That Brand is TARNISHED like an old bronze church league b-ball trophy. I winced when I heard him say he’s bringing it back. I like the new Blac/BluRoc as a brand, its refreshing and fits the new artist hes working with… DONT DO IT DAME! LET IT GO MAN.

    5. Dame has really seemed to learn a lot and humbled himself, I’m sure his focus is where it should be and I wish him the best and much success

I know Jay gon sue on some technicality and he is going to win… If you understand branding and copyright and how many years it takes for copyright to expire you will understand that Dame gon loose
