This week, Eminem took time out from his schedule of performing and promoting his newest album Recovery, to reveal to Billboard how the LP came together. He explained that the difference between his previous album Encore and the subsequent album Relapse, had much to do with his level of sobriety.
“I was pretty much in full-blown addiction when I was creating [Encore],” he told Billboard. “And as far as Relapse, when I first got sober I got really happy because I was not a prisoner of addiction anymore, so life was brand new to me. I was like, ‘Shit, man, trees are beautiful again. What a nice day it is.’ I don’t think I was paying attention to what the average listener might like or not like.”
While he has suggested in interviews and through his music (specifically his lead single “Not Afraid“) that he feels he has let down his fans, he also says he’s learned from past errors. Just Blaze, who was the first producer to work on Recovery, echoed those sentiments. “[Eminem] already knew what sort of mistakes he has made with the previous album and where he wanted to go from there.”
Em revealed that while recording some of his recent music, he struggled not just with lyrical content, but with an emotional connection to the music. “I would go back and listen to songs off The Marshall Mathers LP, The Eminem Show, and some of Encore, and ask, ‘Why don’t my music feel like this anymore? ‘The Way I Am,’ ‘Criminal,’ and ‘Toy Soldiers’ were songs that meant something. I wanted there to be a reason why I was making each song, instead of making it just to make it.” However, he also said that after regaining that emotional tie with his music, he was able to record “at least three or four albums’ worth of material. “I must have gone through 200-300 beats,” he said. “I probably picked a hundred of them and made songs to all of them and then nailed it down. I wanted to put the best on this record.”
Eminem’s single “Not Afraid” debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and Recovery is projected to sell 700,000 after its first week. Currently, Em has teamed up with Jay-Z to perform shows in both Detroit and New York.

I remember I was in the same state for Nas’ “Untitled” album, trying to tell myself it was a GREAT disk. Shit was wack, had a FEW flashes of brilliance, but not enough to shine bright.
Ye I quite like recovery – it’s took a while to grow on me but ye i think It’s different to his other albums, more mature but not hating on his other albums, there all good aswell but for 2010 this what you get from eminem, but ye must admit wud be gud to hear sum of the other tracks he done like relapse refill.

Also, to the dude saying Em’s delivery is off and has lost his flow, you are fucking stupid. Really you are. Even Relapse, that CD despite the shitty content and borderline whack concept, had some of the most complicated rapping out there. Right up there with the best underground emcees. His extensive use of intersentence rhymes, multisyllables, slant rhyming,anapaestic tetrameter, melody and syncopation.

No. Don’t try to sound like a smart ass, Eminem used his inner rhymes and multis MUCH more fluently on his old albums. His new shit, he makes extensive use of the melody to try to make his multis sound good. I’m sorry, but from a technical standpoint, it makes the style that Emimen is trying to portray come off as wack. Also, on a conceptual level, Eminem is completely trying to go back to his old style, but like I said, he lost his touch. His ingenuity is gone.

Also, Eminem was only using his slant rhymes in context of multis, so there was actually no need for you to include that in your so-called assesment of his skill level AT ALL, other than to sound like a pretentious prick who is trying to over glamourize your knowledge of rhyme schemes. I’m sorry, but Em is coming wack, I apologize if I offended your inner Eminem pride and your “so called” knowledge of lyricism. But you’re a moron.
I’m not even comparing Eminem to underground cats, fuck, the underground scene is getting as wack as the mainstream is now, but even then, there are a handful of guys who are boundlessly better then Em is. Or ever was.

A LOT OF POEPLE, INCLUDING EMINEM HIMSELF, would say “Illmatic” is an undisputed classic, that album didn’t sell shit on it’s debut, so what that means is, an album, or artist for that matter, doesn’t have to sell a shit load of records to be GOOD. Illmatic is one of the most influential hip hop albums ever created, and it didn’t debut with millions of sales. So, don’t use “EMINEM SOLD THIS” as a gauge of how good he is. Dude fell way the fuck off, but he manages to sell records because people are blind to the fact that he’s been feeding you the same shit for the past ten years.

Name a MC that has dropped an album that can top this in recent memory. No one has released an album on par with this one in a LONG time. Funny thing is Em has a track specifically set out for ya net critics. You should really listen to it before throwing all this out there.
