On Sunday July 18, the Elam Family will celebrate the life and legacy of Keith “Guru” Elam. The Gang Starr founder died this April 19 due to complications from cancer. In a statement released by the family to HipHopDX and other media sites, the family stated that this is a memorial for family, friends and invited guests, and will take place at the University of Massachusetts Boston campus.
The family has launched a site called GuruTributes.com to allow loved ones and fans to share tributes to the Jazzmatazz maker, as well as to provide those unable to attend the July 18 ceremony with video.
Those wishing to attend are asking to do so via the site, as space is limited, and accommodations are going to be first come, first served.
Tributes for Guru have already taken place from artists such as Doo Woop, Jeru The Damaja and Lil Dap of Group Home.
