Rick Ross Negotiating With Def Jam To Re-Release “Teflon Don”

Released July 20, Rick Ross‘ fourth album Teflon Don has been one of the bigger Rap albums of 2010. With appearances by Kanye West, Jay-Z and Cee Lo, the Miami mainstay showed evolution and growth in his sound and flow. Despite critical and commercial success – and a lot of support from Sean “Diddy” Combs, the Def Jam Records has yet to reach gold.

With over 405,000 units of Teflon Don sold to date, Rick Ross tweeted yesterday that he is planning for a re-release of the album that is just over two months old.

As with similar re-releases of last year’s Relapse and Only Built 4 Cuban Linx…Pt. II releases from Eminem and Raekwon, Ross is planning to re-release the album with additional material and content.

      1. When you’re hating, just admit you’re hating. Don’t try and turn the numbers into something else just cuz you don’t like Ross. He’s Top 3 this year and spinning it like “he was expected to do more” isn’t gonna change it. You’re not the label, you don’t know what they spent, what they expect, or anything else.

    1. It worked out great for Eminem and others but there is one problem.. Rick Ross doesnt sell records and if this album wasnt a hit the first time around what will change?? Rick Ross is fake. he lost millions of fans(if he ever had millions of fans) when the truth came out of him lying about being in law enforcemen!!! now he is a drug lord gagnsta all in the streets??? nah i dont buy it!! leave rap alone the game ”dont” neeeeed you!!!! its like this… the movie avatar was a great hit!! so they put it back in the theater with a extra twist ”3D”. They did that because it was such a hit movie.. Rick Ross must think his album is great enough to remind the world that its out now!! again!!! to me album sales dont mean shit. most real hip-hop doesnt sell anyway.. but with Rick Ross its all about the money and his shit didnt even go GOLD!!! he needs to wake up and realize that he isnt as big as he thinks he is in that fake world he is acting in!! peace

      1. The guy sells more records than YOUR favorite rapper. How is it that he don’t sell records when he has one of the top performing albums out this year? Only people above dude is Em, Drake, and B.o.B. this year. Then you go on to say album sales don’t mean shit? You are inconsistent bruh.

      2. To Carnivore:

It’s a misleading argument to say he had one of the bigger albums JUST because of where he ranked. Rank doesnt matter. The TRUTH of the matter is that he DOESNT sell records like his buzz or more importantly BUDGET mandates. Ross is going to be dropped at some point if he doesnt either A: renegotiate his deal into a 360 deal so that Def Jam can actually make money off of him (because right now they are losing) or B: finds a way to make more fans. If he was dropped, he’ll just say he “asked for his release”. Unfortunately he may have peeked out at Gold MAX.

      3. I’m sorry but I gotta disagree with you, Ronnie. This album wasn’t a hit? In an era where rap records are lucky to sell 100,000 copies, this thing is close to going Gold. Nowadays Gold is pretty much the new Platinum, or even near Double Platinum. Eminem is just selling as well as he is because, well, he’s Eminem. Same goes for anything Jay and Kanye put out, and Young Money too. This album is doing well for its time.

      4. @Carnivore!!!! first off my fav rapper doesnt give a fuck about album sales cause he is underground and us true hip-hop heads down here dont do it for the main stream market a.k.a people like you!!! i was making a point by saying he is not as big as he thinks and as ”they” make him out to be.. they can try to push rick ross on us all they want but in the end he just doesnt have that same impact as a top emcee in the ”main stream” game!! he doesnt sell records like his buzz or more importantly budget mandates!!!!!! im making a point and your calling me names haha that tells me your a fuckin kid or all over ricks nuts!!! rick ross is fake as shit and weather you wanna believe it or not he is not going to have the same impact as the top emcees in the game!! the lable expects income from him… if he isnt bringing in that money he will get dropped!!!! his music talks all this shit about money money money and how much he is bringing in from the streets sellin that coke!! it gets old and sooner or later people are gonna question this so called gangsta drug dealin life he is showing us!!

      5. @wu tang forever!! the album is doing well for its time?? thats a bunch of shit man!! he is expected to do numbers like eminem and jay and the other top emcees!! its what the lable expects from him.. its what they put into him.. the time, the money, the hopes of him being the next biggie!! but it didnt happen.. he is a few albums in now.. its not his first album.. if it was his first album then yeah ok i would say well he is new and young and its gonna take time to make them numbers.. this isnt his first album!!! so whatever man! look, i dont even care about album sales an numbers cause my fav emcees are people like vinnie paz, canibus, and talib kweli.. they dont make big money.. all im saying is rick ross is over rated and he didnt do what the lable expected him to do like biggie did or jay-z an eminem did..

      6. WOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW! I dont think any label is actually crazy enough to even put Rick Ross and Jay Z, Eminem in the same sentence.. U R THOUGH hahahahhaha

      7. My nigga Ross gonna go gold after the re-release. And even though I dig Ross’ music, the nigga is still a fake ass drug runner and if the label wants to classify him with Jay and Em and all them cats who still sell records, they some dumb niggas too.

    2. Rick Ross doesn’t sell?
      He’s at 405,000 doing 10k a week.

If you’re not Em or Jay or Ye, that’s the ceiling. He’ll go gold without a re-release. With the right singles, it could do much more than that.

      1. Agree, Ricks numbers are really really good. He should reach Gold..which is a huge feat in these days. Only a handful of rappers can do that nowadays..maybe not even.

      2. How can you say that, after 5 years he is still on the Hip Hop radar. Look at the great who have fallen 50 cent tried to body Ross and became a faggot ass actor, Young Jeezy fell off the map,TM 103 is the new Detox , Wayne is a martian, TI has lost his mind. Ross is doing his thing he is the hottest MC out right now and you can’t deny it. So all you haters who’s getting off from Mcdonalds and Jack in the Crack to run to your 1995 pc just to post some BS about Ross. I know the new Nike commericial made u throw up, Boom!. Like Ross sayed ” I seein numbers, I’m seein Hummners, I’m seein Paris I got a trap in London”. Throw your sets Up!!!!!!!!!!! BAWSE! BMF!

    3. why? those albums were great albums and there was a demand for them. nigga needs to stop following trends. i wonder if he realises his album sucks and that’s it aint gone gold yet.

    4. What a FAIL! Re-Releasing an album that’s not even gold (with some of the greatest buzz/promotion of ALL TIME)…just so you can SQUEEZE a few more sales out, LOL. Man you should have made a BETTER album. If he had more singles on the album, he could just RELEASE a new single and mash through GOLD+. I can definitely say he totally wasted a spot by putting “BMF” AND “MC HAMMER” on the SAME album. They are basically the SAME beat. Good luck though.

    5. Even though I actually liked the album, I don’t see how re-releasing it after it being out for 2 fucking months is gonna make much of a difference. How well did Versus did when it was re-released? Even Refill didn’t hype up Relapse anymore than it was previously.

      1. Agree. It is one thing to have your own opinion and it is another thing to just hate aimlessly.I guarantee if Rick Ross was never “outed” as a good brother who didnt do monkey ass shit. HE WOuld have went platinum. Teflon Don was FIRE!!!

    6. whateva the boss does im supporting, ill help him go gold or plat, he does his thing on the mic better than most rappers these days if not all
