Black Eyed Peas leader and acclaimed producer will.i.am is known for his ears. The Los Angeles, California native has produced hits for Nas, Game and Talib Kweli, in addition to his own group’s multi-platinum repetoire. In a recent interview with The Sun Times, will revealed that he suffers from Tinnitus, a condition that leaves a ringing sound in his ears.
“I don’t know what silence sounds like any more. Music is the only thing which eases my pain,” said the producer known for boisterous dance-floor hits. “I can’t be still. Work calms me down. I can’t be quiet as that’s when I notice the ringing in my ears. There’s always a beep there every day, all day. I don’t know exactly how long I’ve had this but it’s gradually got worse.”

I was honestly gone joke about it, too, but I quickly stopped myself to say that making a mockery of one’s misery is dishonorable. will.i.am makes music and is around music and goes on tour with music on a consistent basis so of course his hears are going to stay ringing nonstop…when you place yourself as a producer in a musical environment and become a big investment for the music industry and they depend on you to stay making music in order for them to keep making big money, this is what happens…an old school rapper YZ spoke on this subject about protecting your ears from extreme loudness when you are making music because you could lose your hearing…cutting back on music time and finding some aggressive ear protection while creating music will probably be the only way that will.i.am will be cured from this and that’s if he wants to be cured from it…

the extremely delicate hair cells in the cochlea are like a bowl of candy given at birth that can never be refilled. every time you damage them you permanently take candy out of the bowl, and it all adds up no matter when in your lifetime the damage occurs. you rarely if ever find hearing loss without it’s lesser known evil twin called tinnitus. you push yourself to the brink of tinnitus and the only way to shut the sound off is through sleep….and death. there is no cure, and will only get louder as you age. almost half of all cases are caused by things like ear infection, medication, nerve damage etc. it is about to be a global epidemic which is also helped along with high radiation levels from cell phones and the like. nearest possible treatment will arrive in 5 to 10 years, and it will involve a battery operated device implanted in the brain to stimulate the auditory nerve to quiet the sound, which itself still must be proven in clinical tests currently being carried out in belgium and soon in the usa and abroad.
