Fat Joe Questions To Future Of “Darkside” Series, Volume 2 May Be Mixtape

Although this year’s album from Fat Joe, The Darkside, Vol. 1 was met with critical praise, the album was far from a commercial success. The Bronx, New York veteran’s latest album reunited him with longtime collaborator DJ Premier, as well as hard-edged sounds from Just Blaze and Scram Jones. After Joe’s first outing with E1 Entertainment garnered a #27 debut, Joe may stray from the planned trilogy of hardcore Hip Hop, returning to more mainstream appeal.

“I’m working on a new album now, but it’s not even a Darkside album, it’s a lifestyle album,” Fat Joe recently told Globalgrind.com. “We gonna do Darkside 2 and maybe the lifestyle will be put out together, Darkside 2 as a mixtape, and the other album, lets not just called it a lifestyle album, will consist of all types of music. Not just underground, hardcore, but everything.”

The Darkside, Vol. 1 was supported by radio hit “(Ha Ha) Slow Down” with Young Jeezy.

    1. This disappoints me. Fucking sellout. Dude’s first couple albums are CLASSIC. Then he releases like five albums of total shit. Then he puts out a solid effort with Darkside, but since that didn’t make money he’s going back to wack shit. FUCK FAT JOE. I bumped Darkside homie.

    2. Fat Joe – You seem like a smart man…Take a step back and look in the mirror. Now tell yourself “I am fucking wack as shit and I’m going to retire from the mic”. You keep releasing the same terrible albums with a different title year after year. Your sales reflect that fact. There is nothing else to speculate about or change up with your music career at this point.

      1. Nah, I learned my lesson a long time ago that Fat Joes albums arent worth buying/listening to. I did skim thru it though and heard a bunch of soft r&b type tracks….Definitely not something you would expect on an album called “the darkside” with Fat Joe Da Gangsta making an angry face on the cover.

    3. Whats he suppose to do, go bankrupt to earn internet respect??

Ya’ll motherfuckers dont even buy shit when its dope so I dont see where you come from thinking you have a voice in what the man does with his career……

Internet fans are fucking worthless, I remember earlier in the year when Canibus dropped “Melatonin Majik”, the song dissin Eminem had 100,000 Youtube views, the album came out and sold less then 2,000 copies and didnt even crack the Billboard 200….. Then you actually have the nerve to sit around and cry when your favorite artists “Sell Out”……. Bitch, aint nobody trying to raise their kids on food stamps and stay broke to earn your respect, fuck outta here with that, support some dope shit when it drops or quit cryin bout hip hop being fucked up, one or the other

      1. CO SIGN! i dont like Joe really but thats what i always be sayin…let muthafuckas put that real hip hop on free mixtapes for us and i’ll still buy the cd since they gave me what i wanted for free

      2. Should I make it into the rap game, Imma make albums that will actually sale, and drop mixtapes for internet hip-hop heads. Everybody’s happy, and the internet niggas can shut the fuck up! lol

    4. I aint mad at Joe. The Darkside was probably his best album ever. Never have i been able tolisten to a Fat Joe album front to back and love every second of it. It’s unfortunate that his own past shitty albums is what killed the potential of this last one. I can only hoe that he sticks to Darkside, because what he should know is that it’s no longer his name that’s gonna sell, but rather the furious lyrics he had in this past effort. True Hip Hop is comin back yall

      1. hiphopbaby76

ay i co-sign on e’thing u said fo’real. i haven’t bought any fat joe records since fat joe da gangsta. darkside v1 was a breathe of fresh air to me after yrs of stale shit all on the vids, radio. i can’t support him if he goes bck to that other shit he was rocking, i understand he gotta feed his kids n all, but i need something to listen to while i’m home relaxing too… PLEASE JOE COME CORRECT, FOR YOUR CORE FANS.

    5. Joe you coming back with this album keep it coming, bang em in the head, fuck that over bearing comerical hop, you’ll fail!

    6. No Wonder joe has the lowest approval rating he has ever had, wake up nobody believes you anymore, just like another assclown name 5-0, no wonder this genre has the lower approval ratings than ever before.

      1. Listen to this dumb mother fucker, making the same comments over and over again. Go find something better to do.

No shit Crack hasn’t been the same, who would after rapping with Pun’s guidance for the more succesful parts of his career, the greatest lyricist of all time.

He can still spit crack and drop bangers, thought he isn’t the same as he used to be.

    7. Poor guy. I don’t know if he’s going to be able to sell. He gets great production but he doesn’t have folks checking for him like they used to.

    8. so he’s gonna go back to that shit from j.o.s.e. 2. that wack cupcake shit. he proved with this last one that he still has it in him, but seems like he cares more about sales, which he probably wont get anyway. not sayin this as a hater i fucks wit the guy but gotta be realistic that he aint sellin no more. darkside 1 was the shit

    9. I am from the south where I banged UGK scarface ,eightball mjg but also loved Kane Kool G ,Krs 1 to be honest rap/hiphop is garbage right now i luv Nas, Jay and still bang MOP as well as sean price but as far as street shit from New York only Fat Joe remain consistent, but in these times a lot of artist will not sell because it is a diffrent era.Look at Drake, BOB, Gucci,Roscoe Dash, now skills is irrelvant and it is sad but me I will always support what I consider good shit. Bun B RIP Pimp C , J Cole, pusha clipse real street shit,DEAD PREZ,Ghostface,Scarface, lox, Fat joe keep makin that street shit sum folk still luv dat shit

    10. Joe bugging, this was his beat album in years..Now he going back to try to make another Lean Back…He worried about them charts…I thought he was independent ? If so he only needs to crack 100,000 to see some bread…

    11. cmon joe. why the fuck would you go back to making bullshit. i hope you fuckin read comments nigga. but the average hip hop fan isnt off the hook. maybe if you greedy fucks aint download everything for free, dude would continue with the DITC type shit.
