Fans in attendance for the first date of Lil Wayne’s “I Am Music II” tour, got to serve as the litmus test for what the rest of the country can expect when Wayne and company come to their city. The sequel to 2009’s $42 million-grossing “I Am Music Tour” began Wednesday in Providence, Rhode Island. In typical fashion, Rick Ross gave an endorsement of epic proportions.
“It’s a great moment in time…it’s a piece of history right here,” Rick Ross said. “With Lil Wayne just coming home—him being one of the biggest in the game. Nicki’s fresh off her platinum album, the homie Travis, myself…”
Wayne held up his end of the bargain with big-dollar pyrotechnics, a live band and a freestyle before directly addressing the packed house, saying, “I swear to God, I was in a place a few months ago…I couldn’t even imagine this shit,” Wayne told a capacity crowd. “But now that I’m here, it’s better than I could’ve ever imagined.”
Not to be outdone, Wayne’s Young Money cohort Nicki Minaj performed a string of hits from her platinum-selling Pink Friday album, before treating one of her fans to a lapdance.
“Keep your legs wide open,” Nicki instructed. “Hands behind your back, and keep your mouth shut.”
