Dr. Dre’s ‘Detox’ Samples La Roux’s “In For The Kill” Remix

To say Dr. Dre’s Detox has been long-awaited and long-overdue may be considered an understatement to fans who have anticipated the album for more than a decade. After releasing two singles from the upcoming album, “Kush” and “I Need A Doctor ,” Dre has received some mixed reviews about the different sounds he has been experimenting with.

La Roux’s Elly Jackson revealed to BBC Radio 1 on Wednesday that Dre is further pushing the envelope, sampling the Skream remix of the duo’s hit, “In For The Kill.”

“He got really excited about the track which is obviously really complimentary,” she said. “He did something with it and then sent it to us and [asked] can he use it for his record and we said ‘Yes.'” She also said, “[He’s used] mainly the vocal and then he put his own beats on it. It’s supposed to be on the next record.”

Jackson claims that Dre heard the original track while watching an episode of Entourage that the song was featured in.

“Apparently he and The Game were sitting watching Entourage together. My manager always jokes that they were eating ice cream under blankets and having a girl’s night in.”

    1. if im not mistaken, one of the songs off of games last mixtape sampled this same song. Wonder if they ended up using it as a game mixtape song vs. being on detox.

    2. oh man, its a good song but i hope it won’t be as terrible and poppy as i need a doctor was. the song “in for the kill” sounds similar to the wack “i need a doctor” but dre could sample it in a creative way so it actually sounds like a hip hop song and not an emo ballad

    3. “Jackson claims that Dre heard the original track while watching an episode of Entourage that the song was featured in.”

The episode that song is featured in is played at the end of the episode Eminem is in.

      1. gotta agree. that tunes ok too. really doubt it’ll be on detox. dre’s not exactly one to use samples anymore

    4. YO BITCH GET TO THE KITCHEN AND STOP FUCKING POSTING BULLSHIT HERE WHEN YOU DONT HAVE A FUCKING CLUE ABOUT HIP HOP.

MAKE ME A SANDWICH NOW, SLUT.

    5. “Apparently he and The Game were sitting watching Entourage together. My manager always jokes that they were eating ice cream under blankets and having a girl’s night in.”

They forgot to add ‘under blankets, sucking eachother off, and having a girl’s night in

    6. Dre has officially fallen off. The song has been sampled to death. Go look at you tube and see how many people have sampled the song

      1. this is what i was about to say…
this track has been sampled so many times, i can’t listen to it anymore.. where is the originality and creativity that made hip hop so special…

    7. Detox looks like is gonna suck..It has been way to over hyped….We all know dre cant rap and the nigga dose not write hes raps…He is a good producer and he should stick to it…I think i need a doctor is shit and kush is just ok..Akon voice was too high in the song…Well im hoping to hear that chronic 2001 type of music on the album but it looks like its not gonna happen.

    8. ye this song has been sampled so many times, but dr dre isent the game or any other whack rappers who have tried, he will kill this song!

    9. I thought the album was done, lol.

Dre is a perfectionist and it’s probably because of all the hype Detox has received over the last 10 years, but everything he has released over the past couple of years has been a miss. Dre, just dig into the vault, turn out some of your old stuff, make Detox a Triple Disc set…1/3 of will probably be classic, so let the people decide. Quit stalling.

      It’s 2011.

    10. who gives a fuck anymore. dr. dre is a joke. he used to produce great shit but now he doesn’t and he doesn’t even write his own rhymes so he has nothing but his name and a legacy. He needs to just put this “Detox” album away and focus on getting his production rhythm back.

      1. Dude Dre never wrote his own rhymes anyway, that’s not a big deal. It was always done by Ice Cube and Snoop back in the day. How can you say dude is joke…Tell me what has he put out that wasn’t up to par.

    11. wtf?
if dre heard it on entourage and liked it from there that means that it was the first time he hears it?
doesnt he know that its been sampled like a millions times??
