Women’s Rights Organizations To Counter Odd Future’s Pitchfork Music Festival Appearance

A number of women’s rights and LGBT organizations based in Chicago have expressed their frustration with the Pitchfork Music Festival’s choice to include California-based Hip Hop group Odd Future on their festival roster.

According to CMJ.com, the organizations are upset with the festival for choosing to include artists whose music sometimes includes lyrics that refer to violence against women.

“There has recently been much debate regarding one band in particular, Odd Future, whose lyrics are extremely violent toward women (as well as other groups of people),” read a message posted online by the organization Between Friends. “While we don’t agree with this, it is their art, and we’d like to offer a counterpoint and continue to help people that are being affected by the violence they describe.”

During the Pitchfork Music Festival, Between Friends will pass out 5,000 hand fans to festival attendees. Each hand fan will include a message about violence against women and resources for women to find help.

The Pitchfork Music Festival will take place in Chicago’s Union Park from July 15 to July 17.

    1. dont even trip they want even be around in 1-3 years the lil buzz they if you call it that is gone

    2. these lil niccas are gonna b over after this, I mean when you start getting the lgbt and women’s groups activist groups to protest against u it will cause them to lighten up, even though theyre suppose to be hardcore and all they will have too, im sure someone from their label will speak to them about doing so as well… but at least it wasnt PETA cause that group is known to kill careers.

    3. their publicist probably arranged for this , as well as all their other manufactured “beef” its becoming a sideshow, which isnt bad if the music has replay value, but even with the funky clothes and attitude which is now called ‘swag’ this music has NO replay value. 3/10

      1. I disagree completely. I have the new Big Sean, Bad Meets Evil, Blueprint albums as well as a couple others I can’t think of right now, but I can’t stop listening to Domo’s Rolling Papers, Earl’s Earl, Tyler’s Bastard, and the two OFWKTA mixtapes. Plenty of good music on those albums and if you actually heard them and still couldn’t say that they have skill with a lot of potential, then you ain’t being honest with yourself.

I will be honest, I don’t like what Tyler says in his rhymes and he comes off as an asshole in interviews….but dude’s got skills with the beats and I would say he has an above average flow. His level of creativity is off the charts.

I am enjoying listening to these guys carve their own lane….even if I have to look past some of their ignorance.

    4. How about this: someone invite the Westboro Baptist Church to go to the show. They’re the one who protest at funerals with their “God Hates F*gs” signs. Then invite macrame clubs, yoga instructors who know how to do hardcore planking, and Vegans Who Love Bacon. I’d love to see Tyler rock a show right in front of them.

    5. With me being the cynical fuck that I am, I believe that to these groups, it is less about Odd Future and more about an OPPORTUNITY to get some exposure for themselves. If it wasn’t for OF, they’d be sending out fucking mass-emails that day

    6. Get ready folks, because here come the raised in a single female headed household – crack baby I hate Black women – how dare they be concerned with their treatment and images – they are all bi**hes and ho*s except for my momma – it’s only words – crowd, sticking up and cosigning for a group which degrades us as a people.

Hopefully these gremlins overdose on something harmful… After all they wish that on other people…

    10. wutevs they’d b better off volunteering @ a battered womens shelter or sum ppl need to learn to stop resisting OF, recognize the genius of it or dn’t listen damn

    11. they use it as nothing but a gimmick. there videos and music are violent towards women. cause its easiest to get away with but say on a records that the united states faked bin ladens death and anything along those lines and find your album not coming out.

    12. and to the guy saying there is a lot good music. its depend on what you grew up on. i grew up on tupac and biggie. e.t.c so to me albums like bad meets evil and big sean are garbage the prodution is weak in comparsion to some of the best albums i have heard.
