Cam’ron and Ma$e both believe that DMX was a better rapper than 2Pac.
In a discussion on Gillie Da Kid and Wallo’s Million Dollaz Worth of Game podcast, the topic turned to who was a better rapper between X and ‘Pac.
Cam’ron, who collaborated and toured with the former, offered his opinion first, saying: “Me personally? I seen DMX. I didn’t really get to see 2Pac. I’m talking about on tour with DMX, in the studio with DMX. I actually got to see n-ggas lose their mind about DMX.
“I know n-ggas love 2Pac, but I didn’t get to see him on tour or do anything else. So for me, it’s DMX because I actually got to be a part of and see him from the tournament rapping to selling 10, 20 million or however many millions of records he sold.”
Ma$e, who also worked with DMX on songs such as “24 Hrs. to Live” and “Take What’s Yours,” echoed Cam’ron’s sentiments: “I would definitely have to say DMX because when you saw the energy he poured, that DMX gave n-ggas, you could just stop one lyric that he would be saying and the whole arena would say it.
“I think a lot of times, because you learn the flaws of a n-gga, you forget how great n-ggas really were. Like DMX was one of those special, special talents.”
He added: “When I first heard DMX in the studio, I was like, ‘This n-gga is just different.’ ‘Pac was phenomenal too, I can’t take nothing away from ‘Pac, but DMX had more than Pac. I’ma go on the record and say he had more than ‘Pac.”

Fellow New Yorker Memphis Bleek recently appeared on Drink Champs and told a particularly wild DMX and Ma$e story from the ’90s.
Bleek detailed an incident that took place at iconic New York nightclub The Tunnel, which famously featured in the opening of X’s 1998 movie Belly.
“This is the first day I met X,” Bleek recalled. “Diddy and Bad Boy and them are all riding down on the beach. Here come Ma$e on a scooter. That n-gga X jumped out the car and started chasing Ma$e. ‘Yo! Get back here! Wait ’til I catch you, n-gga!’
“So I’m in the back seat, like, ‘Yo! What the fuck happened between him and Ma$e?’ And nobody in the n-gga crew was running behind him, trying to stop him. So I said, ‘Whoever this n-gga is, he’s official.’”
I would rather listen to a DMX track or album than a 2Pac one. That’s just me.
Yeah, it’s definitely just you. X was a bootleg Pac when it came down to it, and deep down, people knew that shit when they blew him up right after Pac died. People were looking for anyone to fill that void. It gave him, Ja, and Master P a boost.
Nah, DMX came with his own energy. He was dope in his own right and way. He was not even a carbon copy of 2Pac in the least. 2Pac was overrated. I can understand why some folks don’t like overzealous 2Pac fans. I’m not here to argue back and forth with anyone. Cheers!
His own energy where? X was out in 92. He rapped nothing like that, had none of the same style, etc. when he first dropped. He literally adopted damn near all of Pac’s persona after he died. There’s no wonder the industry runs the game they do on you people, most of you aren’t that smart and fall for anything they feed you. X was dope, but let’s not do the revisionist history thing where people didn’t put him P, and Ja in Pac’s lane right after he died because all of them were playing that shit up. I had some fool tell me that Ja’s song Pain was dope, not understanding it was a remake of Pac’s song. It’s no different than how Jay got Biggie’s lane. It doesn’t diminish these people’s accomplishments, but it is what it is.
You bugging. Aint nobody compare X and Pac back in the days. X was in a totally different lane than Pac when he came out.
Pac was an actor. Not a real g. He did ballade at arts school, if I’m not mistaken. And his fans falls for that Thug Life garbage. Lol.
You want me to go get the articles? Maybe you were in denial, but it happened.
X was too. He was also a Jehovah’s Witness and a crackhead. What does that have to do with them both being very talented rappers?
So which DMX album was better than Me Against the World or All Eyes on Me? Come on now…DMX and Ja Rule wanted to be Pac. Check DMX’s verse on the John Forte album…he even used Pac’s own album title in his lyrics. He then sampled in the Air Tonight after Pac had Starin Thru My Rearview. All Pac’s albums are FIRE. X had one good album…his first…that’s it. The rest was Wack as feck.
Please tell me what dmx song sound like something 2pac did or would do???? Dude, they say “DMX’ ing the game NOBODY says 2PAC’g the game. Y’all forget get at me dog was a freestyle. I agree some of you 2Pac fans go wayyy to hard especially when half of y’all aren’t even old enough to really remember him or the times
@Steve…banks That last sentence! Props, bro!
I remember the times and remember watching both careers from day one. I’m not 30 like some of you dumb fucks trying to call the other younger people out who are actually recalling better than your amnesiatic asses. Nice try. Nobody said he rapped like him, but his whole public persona when the Ruff Ryders started marketing him was that thug shit that Pac had as his persona from day one as a rapper. Only real differences was that X embraced being a grimy criminal and didn’t have much consciousness to his rhymes, which is why it’s laughable to say he was better since he had less dimensions, but he was an imitation. X’s career didn’t start with Hell is Hot. He had been around as long as Pac in the industry. He just didn’t blow because his first attempts didn’t work. Kind of ironic that it finally did when Pac died and people were searching for someone to fill that void. Like I said, he wasn’t the only one. P and Ja Rule benefited from it as well. Doesn’t mean he wasn’t super talented. Doesn’t diminish his contributions, but on no level is he fucking with Pac’s impact or what he brought to the game when he was the original of his kind.
youre very mistaken about spelling the word ballet tho
@APLSMLS That’s a typo on my part. English is my second language.
APLSMLS If that mistaken word trips you up or ruins your day I suggest you rectify the myriad of others on this website. Hahaha
They are both dope artists to me. I just can’t stand 2pac fans. Straight weirdos from all walks of life.
I give DMX his props he good at what he do. I listen to him. I love Tupac I can relate Tupac talk that real Sh** that make you think. The things he talk about I been through when I’m having a hard time or just going through so things I listen to Tupac.SO I LOVE ME SOME TUPAC
That annoying NY dickriding again that turns everyone else off. X was around when Pac was popping and couldn’t even get in the game until he died so that he could take his lane. However, NY dickriders interpret this as he had more, lol. You could argue X was the most energetic dude, but Pac is probably one of the few who could match him at that, and X wasn’t fucking with him in lyrics, song structure, passion on a track, etc. This goes in the files of dumb shit people say to get attention.
Not all DMX fans are from New York though.
I’m a DMX fan myself. However, the only ones who would say this are predominantly from NY.
X was 🔥 Pac was 🥱
DMX 🔥 🔥 🔥
X is a better rapper than Pac, but Pac had better writing and production.
I can agree with that.
If pac was smoking crack the whole time he was rapping with that Crack energy ya’ll be chosing him over X. FOH X was just aggressive with it, he didn’t touch on issues like Pac did. Most ya’ll ain’t never traveled the world lol and it shows, Pac is world wide far more than X. Bunch off goofball NY D**k riders in here.
Yep. X had one lane. That hungry, I’m a wild dude energy. Going anywhere outside of that rarely ended up in anything memorable.
That’s a damn lie, DMX has a lot of love down in Africa. How do you think he sold all those millions of records? Pac was great but he wasn’t as big until he started beefing with BIG/ Bad boy after the quad studio incident, he also shot himself in the ass( such a gangster ) pac brought his bull to BIG and he’s the reason they’re both dead cos he escalated all of the BS.
If you’re looking for a workout playlist, DMX is the guy. But Pac’s music is timeless, it’s real art. Pac’s music is 30 years old and just as much a classic as ever. Comparing these 2 is like comparing apples and oranges
Stated exactly correct. Love X, but he isn’t fucking with Pac on any level. It’s like comparing Matt Ryan or some shit to Tom Brady. I always said Pac was the first rap soul musician. His music stood the test of time like those 70s soul songs everybody sampled, and he’s the only rapper with a catalog that did because it was good music, but he always had something to say, whether it be positive or negative, but there was always a point to it.
This Silent_Partner is going hard for 2Pac. Take it easy, bruh. Don’t forget to breathe every now and then. Acting like you was running with the Thug Life Squad back in the day. Hahaha
2Pac was a real actor. Nothing but a studio gangsta.
Shooting cops in the ass who have nothing to do with you, very studio gangsta. Maybe he should have sold some rocks to the black community to get his cred up. Somebody ought to slap the piss out of you people every time you utter this shit knowing that that man did that. Wasn’t shit studio about him. It’s why he got himself killed.
Another show that is toxic for black people. They’ll always put a mic in front of a black man willing to bring down his own people. “You’re taking it too seriously, it’s just for fun”. When are we gonna take ANYTHING seriously? I’m pretty sure it’s time to get serious. Look around..
In the midst of it all, I’m sure DMX and 2Pac had good hearts and good qualities to them both. We have to be fair and look beyond the rap music facades. We celebrate their lives!
I think both were great. I don’t think DMX sounded like Pac but I do think they both displayed lots of vulnerability and emotions on their records. Pac to me is the better artist with the better catalog. But can’t knock those who prefer X it’s all just a matter of taste and opinion for each individual.
Pac got killed. X blew up. Ja blew up. 50 blew up after battling Ja. Beans and every rapper with a strong voice yelling thug life blew up. Beyonce and Jay z blew up using Me and My girlfriend as a spring board….them boyz got opinions.. and I strongly disagree…you don’t have to like it but please respect it….
Let’s stop the comparisons and understand x was a pac fan yes he did things pac did but he also was originally signing to death row east because pac wanted to sign him so his greatness was that but pac is internationally great and made an impact on the world
Man, it’s sad to see all the division in the comments related to two of the best to ever do it in the game. Respect n RIP to two Legends. In a fun Convo, I got my own opinions I’d love to share with Hip Hop heads who love the game, but arguing and getting mad about who like who better is sus af. Relax fellas. Go listen to Slippin’ wit headphones on. Then 96 Big Bodies sitting on chrome. You’ll feel better.
Yeah, it’s lame to try & wrestle people into liking what you like. Like arguing over what whiskey, beer or icecream is best 🙄 I’ll take them all! 😅 I have listened to every song on every album by both artists. They both have their place and I have heavy respect for them both.
2 different artists with some visual similarities . But 2 different backgrounds . To different cadences 2 different purposes. 2 separate styles. 2 different energies.
Stop saying X was real…he did real dumb sht! Crack head sht to be honest. But we loved his energy and sincerity. But he was still doing nonsense at his age was a turn off.
That’s why the two are not comparable.
PAC wasn’t a gangster he was a to smart for his own good menace type dude. A lot of misplaced energy.
That’s t why we wanted to se his maturation so bad, because of his roots as an activist and him being in touch with the community and politics at such a young age(25)

Don’t ever ask someone from NY who’s better a west coast mc and a east coast mc, especially when they have history with that mc. I say mc cuz Pac and X were more than just rappers

Hey Bozo 🤡 Don’t make ridiculous claims that you can’t maintain or even prove. You don’t speak for all of Africa. DMX has many real fans in Africa. Obviously, 2Pac is not everyone’s favourite rapper. He’s madly overrated.
So y’all clearly don’t know about the continent that consist of DMX nation? We blast X through our speakers all day. We don’t even want to hear 2Pac’s name over here.
LISTEN THE WHOLE WORLD STOPPED WHEN 2 PAC DIED …MY MOTHER WOKE ME UP OUT OF DEAD SLEEP…..NUFF SAID…OH AND I WENT TO GO WORK FOR HIS MOTHER WHEN I GOT OLDER …..TO EVEN COMPAIR THEM TWO IS STUPID DMX LOOKED UP TO PAC SO WILL YALL STFU I GOTTA UNRELEASED PAC MUSIC AND UNRELEASED DMX MUSIC …AND NO THE GET AT ME DO WAS NOT A FREESTYLE KID WHATS YA 20 DUMMY?
