Dr. Dre Tells Busta Rhymes He Recorded 247 Songs During COVID-19 Pandemic

Dr. Dre is most often found holed up in his home studio, working with a revolving cast of greats. Days after he suffered a brain aneurysm in January 2021, he was back at work with frequent Aftermath Entertainment producer Dem Jointz and The D.O.C., proving his creative spirit knows no bounds.

Case in point — when the COVID-19 pandemic began its rampage in March 2020, Dr. Dre put his head down and apparently cranked out hundreds of songs. In an Instagram video posted on Thursday (June 30), Dr. Dre told Busta Rhymes about his ridiculous recording schedule.

“I did 247 songs during the pandemic, then we paused, did a whole album with Marsha Ambrosius — that’s fucking nutso, that’s crazy,” he said. “Then we came back … what did we do after that? Oh, I did the Grand Theft Auto shit and then we working on my n-gga Snoop. We two days in right now, we got, what, six bangers done? So, I don’t know. I wanna finish this shit and then start Busta Rhymes.”

Busta Rhymes was clearly excited about what they’re potentially cooking up. The pair initially linked up on Bus-A-Bus’s 2001 album Genesis and have since collaborated on numerous projects, including Busta’s “Don’t Get Carried Away” featuring Nas, “Legend Of The Falls Offs” and “Break Ya Neck.”

As for Snoop Dogg, their relationship stretches back to the early ’90s when a young Dr. Dre introduced a 19-year-old Snoopy Doggy Dogg to the world on the single “Deep Cover.” After that, they collaborated on Dre’s 1992 debut The Chronic and the rest is history.

Thirty years later, their friendship is stronger than ever, most evident when they took the stage for the Super Bowl LVI Pepsi Halftime Show in February. The West Coast gangsta rap legends were joined by Eminem, Mary J. Blige, Kendrick Lamar and surprise guest 50 Cent who all proceeded to deliver some of their biggest hits against a backdrop of lowriders and Crip walking.

Fans have been waiting on new material from Dr. Dre for what feels like eons, but with at least 247 songs in his vault, perhaps that will change in the near future.

    1. Who cares. Alot of artists record demos. Nothing to brag about. Griselda actually releases tonnes of dope music on CD.
The new breed are disciplined and a serious competition.

Dre was cheating on his wife it was revealed. And he had like a 10 year period or more for each of his solo albums.

Kanye overtook him I feel. Dre is still great, I just like millions want him to release new work.

      1. So what is the cheating part about? Im not sure that dre clearing has anything to do with his music..

        1. I get it. Alot of people think cheating doesn’t matter. But it does. Dre’s a musician. Cheating affects he soul, love, family, relationships. All of that affects career and art.

    2. I don’t think Dre has dropped any serious heat in decades. Compton wasn’t bad, not great. Dre goes too hard for the new school sound and it doesn’t fit him at all. He does a higher pitch, scratchy voice. Like no man! Dre, you don’t have to change your sound. In fact, people want your older sound because thats why you’re a legend. One track they need to release was that kendrick joint on the Dre Beats commercial “Pyrex”. Beat is killer, killer flow and sound. I wonder if Dre produced the beat?

    3. They know it better here. They love Jacko, Beyoncé’ and Chris Brown, so please don’t talk shit about some real hiphop and focus on easily forgettable pop.

    4. All of Dre’s music has his personality chipped into it. So even if a song isn’t a banger, it still vibes right if you on his level. A comedian don’t always have to be funny 24/7 for you to sit and enjoy just talking. It’s a bigger picture of a relationship you have with fans over 30 years.

      1. Yeah, I’m sure the old-school dre fans just love “talk about it” lmao… just admit it, dre fell off, and he isn’t gonna come back to his former stardom. Dr dre is more known today as “oh, those headphones”. Nobody besides us hiphop heads and dre fans even heard Compton. The rest of the world plays Still Dre on repeat and can’t name anything from the chronic lol

        1. Nah, most rap fans can definitely name “Nuthin’ But A G Thang” as a song from the chronic because that song is consistently ranked as a top 5 GOAT rap song

    5. I don’t get how he’s working on all these records and not dropping anything. Compton was a really good cinematic style album and the new GTA stuff sounds good too. I haven’t heard anything to make me believe Dre all of sudden can’t make beats anymore so lets hear some material. at least ye drops records as promised

    6. And best song out of that 247 doesn’t even come close to the worst one he made in the early nineties.

    7. Dre is a good example of letting perfection get the best of ya. He should’ve dropped Detox after I Need A Doctor and Kush got on the radio. What a waste of momentum.

    8. Dre better not let folks down with this one. I’ve seen all the compliments, and I see folks are anticipating this with mixed feelings, I’m certainly waiting for it, but it BET not sound like Compton. That was 100 percent mediocre for Dre’s caliber.

      1. but that’s wrong though it was a great album just not the best rap vibe and you have to respect Dre for that aspect- it was for a reason
