Pusha T is riding high after earning his first No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 with It’s Almost Dry. Still in promo mode, King Push sat down with TIDAL magazine where he opened up about his time as Clipse and how their final album still irks him whenever he heard it mentioned.
The Virginia-bred rapper wants to wipe 2009’s Til The Casket Drops from his memory completely.
“I hate it,” he said in disgust. “And when a song comes on, like ‘I’m Good,’ man, this was a little bit of a bop. Hate it. Soon as I find myself bopping a little bit too much — ah, damn. And there’s another thing. Bro, Malice is telling you the whole time, he’s leaving. You hear it the whole way through the album.”
“The transition is happening, the album’s out, I’m touring and he comes and brings me a book and says, ‘Man, you probably should go read my book. But I think you should just go solo because I don’t want to do this.'”
However, if there’s one thing Pusha still appreciates about the final Clipse album it’s the cover art designed by KAWS.
“Only thing I love about it is the artwork, and that’s because KAWS did it,” he added. “That’s it. ’09. Shout out KAWS.”
The following year, Clipse split after Malice took a hiatus from music and Pusha T pursued his solo career and entered the G.O.O.D. Music family. Although, the book isn’t closed on a Clipse reunion. During his appearance on SiriusXM, Pusha T admitted he’s still pushing his brother to make another album in the near future.
“I’m pushing for a Clipse album, I want it to happen, you know it’s up to him, but I am very confident,” he said. “I didn’t know we always could do one. I’m very confident we can do a Clipse album.”
Listen to the album below.
The lesser of their three albums but still to me. Probably just like to hear more bars out of your own shit but songs like I’m Good is perfect summertime music.
I was very disappointed in that album. Only song i liked was Footsteps
Huh, I am disappointed in Pusha new album so I guess it’s only fair…
I was disappointed as well at first but the more I listen to it, the more I like it. Only thing that annoys me is that Hear Me Clearly is mixed completely different from the rest of the album (it doesnt sound as dope sonically as the other songs). And I had to switch up the tracklist because I dont think the original one is the best one.
DRY GREW ON ME TOO. YOU CAN SHUFFLE THE TRACKS AND RECOGNIZE EACH SONG. ITS TRULY WELL DONE.
I agree worst album in their discography
Honestly IMHO popular demand and there was a murder were pretty hot. Obv it’s not lord willing or hell hath no fury but at the time I def rocked with it .
Yeah. This album is pretty weak. Only 8 songs I find dope on it. Im glad Pusha likes the artwork but it’s the wackest one to me. And yeah, Malice doesn’t sound great on this album, it’s clear he wanted to move on, so i get why Pusha is not a fan of this project.
ALBUM IS TRASH. GLAD HE HATES IT TOO.
Always thought the album was decent.
I agree but malice was telling us he was done on that album.
well i dont hate it
Push ?n like a mf. What he meant to say is he felt like we came lazy on the track because of the context of the song or album or because the label forced to make music like this sound. Nobody puts out a product they aren’t liking unless they are forced.
*Capn like a mf
Although another Clipse album would be dope, I hope No Malice sticks to his principals in life and sticks to his positivity. The dude is still dope af
