Cadence Of Boston Group Raw Produce Announced Dead

Cadence of the Boston-based Hip Hop group Raw Produce is reportedly dead.

While no details regarding the cause of death are currently available, Esoteric of 7L & Esoteric announced the loss via his website, and spoke on the Beantown emcee, real name Seth Boyd:

We have recently lost an amazing person/artist in Seth Boyd aka Cadence from the Boston-based Hip Hop group Raw Produce. In the mid-90′s, when we were really first learning how to put records out, Seth selflessly opened his doors to us. I’d travel to his studio in Cambridge as often as I could to soak up knowledge and trade stories with him.

Esoteric explained how deep Cadence’s passion for Hip Hop ran, and how his knowledge extended into other areas as well.

In ’97 there weren’t many people that were up for 2-hour long discussions focused on the hi-hat from that one Ultramagnetic b-side or what caused Simply Too Positive to change their name to Organized Konfusion. If the conversations ever veered off into other subjects, I’d usually try and steer us back into Hip Hop because I couldn’t keep up with him when it came to politics or social issues…he was too informed. He was wise. He described one of his tracks as ‘another leftist rant’ which immediately put us on the same page politically, yet he knew this stuff cold. Everything I felt, he was able to actually articulate. He had a way of communicating that was always well thought out, yet could spin into a sarcastic rant or clever play on words in an instant.

Esoteric continued, revealeing that Candence was driven by a passion for music:

I looked at studio visits or “building” with many artists as an obligation or a chore, but never with him. With Seth there was no ego, no tall tales, no war stories, just a modest exchange of ideas, most of them fueled by the desire to create the next great Hip Hop record. In ’95, he did: Raw Produce’s single “Cycles” is one of the most moving, beautifully constructed Hip Hop singles in Boston history. We met Seth and his partner Damian (Pitch) through the Vinyl Reanimators and we learned a lot from them both.

Finally, Esoteric recalled the history of his collaborations with Cadence:

Seth appeared twice on our Soul Purpose album, on “State of the Art” and then “My Rhyme Pt. 2.” I remember recording that one with him, and remembering how “Lakim Shabazz” his ad-libs were. I was jealous, but thankful he lent a helping hand to the track. Last time I spoke with him, he mentioned to me that he was recording and performing with Sammy B and Mike G (of the Jungle Brothers), Zimbabwe Legit, and YZ….and that he rocked with them and Stetsasonic at the Knitting Factory in NYC (more jealousy). He also shared a track he did with Grand Puba. These things, based on all of our conversations, gave me every indication that Seth was living his dream. He will certainly be missed, but never forgotten. RIP Seth. “The phrase turner Cadence here to set it, don’t forget it, taking out more muthaf***ers than radio edits.”

HipHopDX would like to offer its condolences to the family and friends of Cadence at this time.

As for this dude, Cool Mike Skills, shut your wack behind up; I understand you being upset over your boy dying, completely understandable, but you ain’t no G. You ain’t shootin nobody up and nobody came up here disrespecting your homie. I’ve met cats like you from Boston acting like y’all are super Gs; y’all ain’t no more hood than anybody else from the streets of any hood so all your Internet thuggin makes you look like a clown. Just be there for your boy’s family, and drink a warm glass of shut-the-hell up.

      1. Man, I haven’t laughed this hard in a minute! Now we have Anonymous Gs talking reckless; you thug enough to come up and talk about how you would put a bullet in my head but too scared to put your name up here. How do you know I’m not in Boston right now? Tell you what, take that bullet you ‘saved’ for me and put it in your own head; at least then there would actually be something inside your head.

    4. If you don’t know who Cadence is… you should probably do a search for ‘The Feeling of Now” LP and stop being a bunch of new jacks. show respect.

    5. Thanks for the nice write up on Cad – his death is such a loss for me personally, his friends and the hip-hop community.

    6. One of the most incredible emcees to ever touch a mic. He was soft spoken with an incredible high sense of intellect. I was honored that he had me to feature with him on this banger called #InThePocket on his ridiculously dope album called #CadencePoisonsTheMindsOfTheChildren

Here is the link so you can witness the lyricism and chemistry we had on this track.

I was a fan since the RAW PRODUCE days and I actually have at least 2 unreleased tracks with him that I definitely have to put out to keep his legacy going. His music will live forever. Please do me a favor and SHARE/LIKE/COMMENT this link and pay homage to some serious #RealHipHop.

REST IN MUSIC, CADE! REST IN PEACE, SETH!
