Pastor Rodney Wills Fired For Attending Rick Ross Concert

Pastor Rodney Wills has been fired for attending a Rick Ross concert after nearly four years of service to Mt. Salem Baptist Church in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

“We cannot have our leader supporting people of this world who are tearing down the kingdom of God,” the church’s deacon, Miles Langley said, according to AmericaPreachers.com. “We know that many saints will have mixed opinions from our actions, but this is not how we do things here at Mt. Salem…We cannot have a pastor praising the world one minute then praising the Lord the next. Period.”

The deacon board voted on Wills’ position Saturday (August 3). When Wills arrived to church Sunday (August 4), he found that his name had been removed from his office door and his parking sign had been taken down.

Langley said that this was the second time Wills was found at a Rap show. Months before, the deacon board reportedly met with Wills after he was seen at a Lil Wayne concert.

Wills was the youngest pastor in Mt. Salem’s history when he was installed at 26 years old. He now holds the record for the shortest term with close to 4 years of service.

Wills isn’t the first to suffer consequences at work in relation to Hip Hop. Last year, it was reported that a teacher was suspended for playing Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’ “Same Love” in a middle school classroom.

    1. They must’ve never heard “Let he who is without sin cast the first stone”…or for that matter, all the times Jesus ate with sinners.

Are they really as Christian as they claim?

    2. I wouldn’t want my Pastor to be a Officer Ricky fan either. You can never trust a Officer Ricky fan, Be careful.

    3. fuck church. people of god? please, they judge as bad as the lowest of the low do. church is nothing but fucking bullshit and a mockery of “God’s children”

    4. Interesting how the bible says multiple times not to judge others, yet Christians are the most judgmental people on earth. They selectively follow gods word when its convenient and suits their own person agendas and disregard it when they come across something they don’t like. It’s bullshit… I’m not impressed.

      1. It also says that a leader in the congregation should be sober minded and well respected. If there is an issue with being well respected, you can still be part of the flock but don’t lead

    5. Yall keep buying my records lol
      make my pockets fat..
I love faking my life stayle and making mad papes.
      fucking suckas

    6. Rodney has a good taste in muzik. Im a close friend of both of Lil Wayne and Rick Ross… so I can tell dey are not happy bout diz situation and dey declared war against Mt. Salem Baptist Church… we at YMCMB noticed ppl need true faith… so we will found da Church of Young Money Cash Money Billionaires. god love us hood niggaz. swag

    7. I can see the point of their decision. It doesn’t look good upon their church. On the other hand what if he was spotted in a movie theatre watching a movie that was filled with vilolence, sex, and drugs? What then?

      1. So what your saying is pastors aren’t supposed to watch movies, or listen to music? They aren’t saints. They’re as flawed as the next person. Since when has the church turned into a network where if you do or say something they don’t like, they fire you? He should sue.

    8. If I was him I would ask WHO saw him at the concert with the authority to vote him out? Obviously he had a hater in his congregation.

    9. So glad to see real men of God standing up this; hats off and much respect to Mt. Salem Baptist Church for taking this stand; this guy should read and understand – 2 Corinthian 6:17 “Come out from them and be separate….

    10. He asked the congregation, “Will a man rob God, yet you have robbed me”, then used the collection plate money to buy Officer Ricky tickets.

      1. You weirdos may not want to admit it, but he’s contradicting his pulpit sermons bopping his head at a concert to the entertainer who speaks of nothing but vanity, greed, drug sales, and fornication.

    11. Okay I apologize in advance. I got no other route for exposure right now so i’m
trolling you fine people here at hiphopdx. Just take 4 minutes to listen to my remix

    12. shit sucks for him.. but then again, why would you go at a Rick Ross concert doe… he got off light for bein at a Weezy concert, then he goes to a Ross concert? I’m not fully down with the board who sacked him but dude had it comin’

      1. I’m scared for you…suppose it’s not, then how will you explain your statement to God??

    13. The real question here is, does constitute an attack on HIPHOP or a HIPHOP ARTIST by the church. If it’s HIPHOP then it’s a problem, if it’s this specific artist [Rick Ross] then perhaps not as the artist has said some questionable things that would offend the church and thus should its Leadership. Let’s not throw HIPHOP, The Church, and Ultimately God under the proverbial bus people.

    14. Whole black community does this. They say and preach one thing but as soon as they outta church, its back to the streets. Like Epps says” I wanna get right with God, but I gotta get this money first”

      1. im not in that picure you fucking idiot, lol.
