Eminem Says Recording With Rick Rubin Was Intimidating

As November 5, the release date of Eminem’s The Marshall Mathers LP 2, approaches, the Detroit emcee continues to discuss his latest project.

In an interview on DJ Whoo Kid’s Shade 45 show, Eminem spoke specifically about recording with Rick Rubin, one of the executive producers of the project.

“I’m a huge fan of Rick, and the shit that he does, and how he’s able to dip in and out of different genres of music and master all of them,” said Em. “That’s pretty fucking crazy how he can do it. And obviously, his early work and shit with the Beastie Boys and Run-DMC. There was a little intimidation factor going in. I’m just such a fan and was just anxious and nervous to meet him, let alone work with him. And the fact that he even wanted to reach out and work with me is super humbling to me.”

Eminem continued, “But it was fun. It was fun because, Rick, he’s pretty easy to work with. Whatever ideas you got, throw ’em out there, he’s willing to try whatever. At the end of the day, whatever we don’t like, we can always take it out, keep this idea, scrap this one.”

Eminem spoke about early Def Jam music, much of which was produced by Rubin, who co-founded the label. “I just want to say this: I’m a super fan of all the early ’80s Hip Hop, man. All the early Beastie Boys shit, on Licensed to Ill, how they incorporated all the Led Zeppelin samples and all that, and the early Run-DMC shit, how those first few albums were so Rock-influenced. There’s something to be said about the nostalgia of bringing that back, and getting with Rick, I was hoping to tap into some of that, because I started fuckin’ around on the Slaughterhouse album, I think, with some of the older sounds, just vintage scratches and whatever. …I had already kinda started doing that, but I was hoping to get with Rick and take it to another level.”

The Marshall Mathers LP 2 was made available for streaming through iTunes Radio on Friday (November 1).

    1. Could HipHopDx stop sucking Em’s dick ? I’m pretty tired of seeing his white fucktard face all over this goddamn site !

      1. HHDx always does this if a rapper drops an album they will suck for 2/3 weeks the rappers dick. Wait until Ross will drops his album then HHDX will suck his dick for 3 weeks

      2. its the biggest album of the year fool. maybe you should get off the internet for a week if it really bugs you that much cause theres only gonna be more! the album aint even come out yet!

      3. His disgusting hairless face is creepy and disturbing but HipHopDX has to use his name for traffic because he’s an extremely popular rapper and his legion of “Stan’s” scour the Internet for any news about him. He has more male groupies than any other rapper.

      4. the fact that you have to add “white” to part of the reason you dont like seeing him just shows ur a racist douchebag whos upset bc a whiteboy is the goat in a genre of music thats predominantly black..sucks to be you. now all we need is a white basketball player to top jordan then yall gonna really shit yourselves

      5. Yo man face it, Em washed up and wack and corny as always. In my book he was never a goat, dude can’t make a song worth shit.

      1. So Far… was complete trash not because of its lyrics because of its fucked up beat. Berzerk was all about the beat so it was a major club banger but not what we want out of eminem.

      1. im pretty sure that isn’t the full it is just the snippet and then them repeating the snippet atleast for all the ones i listened to.

    2. HipHopDX has written 4 stories about the same interview…you better be rating his album a five for all the traffic coming in because of this album

    3. Fucking morons clamoring for Dr Dre. He has 16 producer credits since 2010. He’s done making music you fucking stans. Move on with your life.

      1. plus he only did a couple of songs on all of eminems albums and a lot of them were not even hits. He did over half of relapse and looked how that turned out.

    7. We don’t give a damn about no white man law if you attack what we love. And frankly, it ain’t none of your business. What do you got to say about it? Did you teach Em? Did you make Eminem? Did you clean up Eminem? Did you put Eminem out before the world? Was Eminem your traitor or ours? And if we dealt with him like a nation deals with a traitor, what the hell business is it of yours? You just shut your mouth, and stay out of it. Because in the future, we gonna become a nation. And a nation gotta be able to deal with traitors and cutthroats and turncoats. The white man deals with his. The Jews deal with theirs

    8. Yo it seems yall afro muthafuckaz cant break free from racism (fuck where yall been born who gives a shit?) but Slim Shadey iz real just ask Dre himself! surely america still has a long way 2 go.u just need 2 have less pussy n cut yo spendin on ’em bitchiz then u can start reasonin.

      1. 250K. HA!! Impossible. He’d be lucky to break 150k. And the “untouchable MMG empire” ain’t that untouchable with the losses they took.

    9. dont get me wrong he can still rap but ever since encore Eminem hasn’t been same he yells lot try make words rhyme lot harder I still like him mmlp2 was ok but guy doesn’t rap about things that’s going on in world like he use too it was nice run with Eminem but just like dre snoop 50 list goes on its time for him hang up the mic its pretty much over for him he always going be bigger then slice bread but he has nothing rap about no more guess its time move on
