I listened to Eminem when he first came out..I think it’s like 98 around there.. He was dope. He made lighter songs with messages, he made angry songs with messages and songs that were funny as hell… now he just sounds the same on every song he drops. I’m a long time listener / fan of music in general, I don’t care what Vibe / MTV / Random blog / says who is the best… I look at it like no one is the best.. Two of the best were murdered, and no one has yet to step into those shoes. His first 2 albums I loved, then he came with the third one and I thought it was good, the stuff from 8 Mile was incredible, then after that, it just got worse and worse……. All of people are saying that they are not enjoying the “choppy” flow or the production. However, these are all opinions. Objectively, one cannot deny the wide complexity of Eminem’s rhyming on this track. Complexity is not just seen in vocal speed because double and triple time flows can be heard by artists like Kendrick (on the Bitch Don’t Kill My Vibe Remix with Jay-Z), tracks by Ces Cru, and many, many others. I remember Nas on “Heaven” – fast but not nearly as technically complex as this track. What stands out in this track is the use of inverse multis WITH double and triple time flows, and Em’s ability to do this in front of and after the down beat. Objectively, looking at his career, Eminem, with this track along with some on the BME ep, he is returning to his roots (pre SSLP and Infinite). Check is Soul Intent material, specifically “Biterphobia” and “Fuckin’ Backstabber”. He originally rapped sporadically with unmatched complexity when compared to most. You can hear him spaz occasionally in his Rap Olympics freestyles. This is good that he is returning to his roots. Production wise, what HHDX forgot to say was that this track was produced by Eminem too. As far as I can tell, his producing skills have vastly increased from the days of the Eminem Show. There is a greater variance of sounds – the beat creates a specific sonic space for this crazy freeverse. Listen carefully.

^agreed. If we assume Eminem will release a pre-album freestyle (like Despicable and I’m Having a Relapse), this isn’t that. This track is not even associated with the new album. What I enjoy about this track, aside from the complexity, is the fact that Eminem’s natural wit is back. He is no longer using obvious (and sometimes corny) puns like we heard on segments of Recovery and parts of his “My Life” verse. This is a good thing.

Listen, in my opinion Eminem is my personal favorite rapper just based from his career from 1999-2002. 02′ was Em in his prime. The Eminem Show album (his best work imo) and the 8 Mile movie. Once 03 came it was 50’s reign and Em started falling off with Encore. Hate him or love him, you can’t deny Em’s run in hip-hop with his first 3 albums which I think are all classic. But I’m just not feeling him in 2013. I think his last truly great song was ‘No Apologies’ back in 06. That’s the Em I respect. Not today’s washed up pop act that stans blindly dick ride just because of the name attached to the music. IDC about wordplay this, metaphors that. Of course Em is a lyrical genius but his flow is all over the place and the overall music is hard to listen to. Which is the same problem I have with Slaughterhouse. You teens can have his next album, I’m good with Born Sinner, Good Kid, m.A.A.d city and Big Krit’s tapes.

He says a lot of nothing, too much complaining, self-centered raps & talking about hurting hoes, nevertheless the bareable tracks are really fun to rap along to IMO.

Eminem has always been an average rapper at best. The reasons he made it to where he made it where
1. Passion: He tends to shout over tracks, rap fast and do multiple syllables, which distracts people from the actual simplistic, ABC, lyrics and make people think he’s “lyrical”. Just listen to the lyrics in this song, what is he actually saying? A whole bunch of nothing.
2. Positioning: He came out at a time when a decent white rapper was unheard of and at a time where that angsty, self loathing, emo, music was popular. People were so amazed to see a decent white rapper, and kids loved him because he was cry a baby like their other favorite artists.
3 He’s white: Eminem said this himself. It’s interesting how there isn’t a white hiphop head who isn’t on Eminem’s dick. There has to be a reason for that. Many white rap fans say he’s the ‘best’ and I’ve even heard white people say “I don’t like hiphop, but i like Eminem” Why is it only white people saying things like this? You can’t deny race does play a huge factor in why people like him, even if it’s subconscious.
Needless to say, I’m not impressed by Eminem or his song.

The eminem now has aged and may have lost much of his hunger but you cannot deny his credibility. If you think his verses on renagade against Jay z were a fluke then you need to analyse his earlier albums. Eminem in his prime was a genius. No one were able to multi syllable the way he did it with a mass appeal. There was cage, beastie boys and vanilla ice that does not share Eminem credit ability so its not always a white thing

As far as positioning, “He came out at a time when a decent white rapper was unheard” – Dialated Peoples (Evidence) came out in 95, Company Flow (El-P) came out in 96, Atmosphere (Slug) came out in 97, years before Em. All of those cats can rhyme for days, yet they’re only popular on the underground scene. If Em was using positioning, it was him pairing up with Dre. The fact that he’s white certainly helped the masses of teenage, suburban white kids grab his album, but I don’t think it’s ONLY because he’s white.
How many extremely successful (platinum or better) white rappers have there been since Em came out? Not many.
Saying he’s not lyrical just makes you look silly. Pretty sure he’s stolen a few songs as a featured artist (50’s Patiently Waiting, Jay’s Renegade, Drake’s Forever).
I can respect that you don’t like him, but I think you are overlooking his lyrical & song writing ability and replacing it with ‘he raps fast and is white, therefore he’s popular’.

There are best of an era but of all time is difficult. It has to be Tupac because is influenced Tats, image, being a movie star, lived what he rapped, was against white supremacy, black panther upbring (tied to some of the most revolutionary people ever) and is the only rapper to have a choked hold on the game to the point of suffocation. The only way he could be stopped was to kill him and that’s what happened.
This guy has been one of my favourite artists since the 1st time I heard Brain Damage on the “Don’t Give A Fuck” single in ’97ish. His 1st 3 albums are still some of my favourites today. He had moments on Encore that I really liked but overall it was iffy… for him. Relapse I did not hate like a lot of others… his flow and word play were sick, the content was meh and the accent was apparent although I did not let it take away from how he was spitting, overall it was still not a great album. Recovery also had a lot of great moments but yet again did not capture me like the 1st three did. Hell Deluxe was a slept on album. Thought it was a great collabo and I thought Royce and he complimented each other well… figured he was all the way back although still yelling a lot. This track reminds me of something that probably should have been on Recovery… its not an awful track but its nothin to be screaming “holy shit Em is back” either by a long shot. 3/5 is fair at best here. I think his new flow/delivery is still as tight as it ever was, he’s just not so much in his youth now and doesn’t have that same hunger for rap as he did when he was still making it in the business. He’s basically had his peak and doesn’t even need to put anything in, all he does now is just raps his lyrics and releases shit every now and then to tide the fans over with material. He just doesn’t sound like a kid anymore and thank God he’s not trying to mimic his old voice and flow as that’d be horrible and would be way worse him trying to be as good as he was rather than just being as good as he now is, just because he’s changed his flow up and he has a different delivery and sound to his voice now that he’s a lot older doesn’t mean he’s any worse now.
I know his latest material is very forced because he has no real need to rap, he’s made all the sales he needs to be rich for life and he’s left us with enough hits to be thankful for. He’s just trying every angle he can and is just trying to have fun and make popular music still for the people that don’t want his career to be completely over.
Everything from Relapse onwards is clearly just the lyrics he’s thought up over the years moulded into tracks and put out. Every half decent rhyme that doesn’t even apply to anything, it’s just him thinking up bars that don’t really go anywhere and songs that he’s made that fit together and can be shaped into an album of some sort. I bet he’s written a song about pretty much every other topic and rather than throwing them all away forever and ever into a vault, he’s just picked out all the songs with the same kinda content and quality and put them together.

The only example that was out of this world Relapse shit was ‘Kim’. Relapse was totally detached from normal thought. From incest to rape to drug induced inanities to mutilation – Relapse was a wild, fucking fucked up masterpiece. MMLP was full of angst, Relapse was full of psychotic madness. Encore had mockingbird, toy soldiers, evil deeds, spend some time, yellow brick road: all of those are ‘mature’ type tracks but that album was also FULL of IMMATURE bullshit (rain man, big weenie, etc.) And yes, I heard Symphony in H. Shit is good sonically, but content wise, its wierd and unsatisfying because it is the similar content to his earlier career. If this track had purposeful content (social commentary maybe? Adressing Detroit’s current situation, addressing other important shit) it would be dope.
Eminem is WAY more versatile than Nas in terms of style. Nas has the same sound one very one of his albums (beside maybe Illmatic). Objectively, one cannot deny the wide complexity of Eminem’s rhyming on this track. Complexity is not just seen in vocal speed because double and triple time flows can be heard by artists like Kendrick (on the Bitch Don’t Kill My Vibe Remix with Jay-Z), tracks by Ces Cru, and many, many others. I remember Nas on “Heaven” – fast but not nearly as technically complex as this track. What stands out in this track is the use of inverse multis WITH double and triple time flows, and Em’s ability to do this in front of and after the down beat. Objectively, looking at his career, Eminem, with this track along with some on the BME ep, he is returning to his roots (pre SSLP and Infinite). Check is Soul Intent material, specifically “Biterphobia” and “Fuckin’ Backstabber”. He originally rapped sporadically with unmatched complexity when compared to most. You can hear him spaz occasionally in his Rap Olympics freestyles. This is good that he is returning to his roots. Production wise, what HHDX forgot to say was that this track was produced by Eminem too. As far as I can tell, his producing skills have vastly increased from the days of the Eminem Show. There is a greater variance of sounds – the beat creates a specific sonic space for this crazy freeverse. Listen carefully.

Listen, in my opinion Eminem is my personal favorite rapper just based from his career from 1999-2002. 02′ was Em in his prime. The Eminem Show album (his best work imo) and the 8 Mile movie. Once 03 came it was 50’s reign and Em started falling off with Encore. Hate him or love him, you can’t deny Em’s run in hip-hop with his first 3 albums which I think are all classic. But I’m just not feeling him in 2013. I think his last truly great song was ‘No Apologies’ back in 06. That’s the Em I respect. Not today’s washed up pop act that stans blindly dick ride just because of the name attached to the music. IDC about wordplay this, metaphors that. Of course Em is a lyrical genius but his flow is all over the place and the overall music is hard to listen to. Which is the same problem I have with Slaughterhouse. You teens can have his next album, I’m good with Born Sinner, Good Kid, m.A.A.d city and Big Krit’s tapes.

He says a lot of nothing, too much complaining, self-centered raps & talking about hurting hoes, nevertheless the bareable tracks are really fun to rap along to IMO.
Generally though, Em seems to be passed his best. I hope this next album will be better, mostly cuz i got tickets to see him live for the first time in Paris but soon after Kendrick schedualled to perform on the same day! It’d be cool if it’s some kinda joint thing but i doubt.
Em planted Hip Hop into my life in ’99 but at this point im feeling Kendrick & Ab-Soul more than anybody else in Hip Hop. They’re not only up to par but they speak with substance, everything else comes down to preference.

Eminem has always been an average rapper at best. The reasons he made it to where he made it where
1. Passion: He tends to shout over tracks, rap fast and do multiple syllables, which distracts people from the actual simplistic, ABC, lyrics and make people think he’s “lyrical”. Just listen to the lyrics in this song, what is he actually saying? A whole bunch of nothing.
2. Positioning: He came out at a time when a decent white rapper was unheard of and at a time where that angsty, self loathing, emo, music was popular. People were so amazed to see a decent white rapper, and kids loved him because he was cry a baby like their other favorite artists.
3 He’s white: Eminem said this himself. It’s interesting how there isn’t a white hiphop head who isn’t on Eminem’s dick. There has to be a reason for that. Many white rap fans say he’s the ‘best’ and I’ve even heard white people say “I don’t like hiphop, but i like Eminem” Why is it only white people saying things like this? You can’t deny race does play a huge factor in why people like him, even if it’s subconscious.
Needless to say, I’m not impressed by Eminem or his song.

If you think his verses on renagade against Jay z were a fluke then you need to analyse his earlier albums. Eminem in his prime was a genius. As far as positioning, “He came out at a time when a decent white rapper was unheard” – Dialated Peoples (Evidence) came out in 95, Company Flow (El-P) came out in 96, Atmosphere (Slug) came out in 97, years before Em. All of those cats can rhyme for days, yet they’re only popular on the underground scene. If Em was using positioning, it was him pairing up with Dre. The fact that he’s white certainly helped the masses of teenage, suburban white kids grab his album, but I don’t think it’s ONLY because he’s white.
How many extremely successful (platinum or better) white rappers have there been since Em came out? Not many.
Saying he’s not lyrical just makes you look silly. Pretty sure he’s stolen a few songs as a featured artist (50’s Patiently Waiting, Jay’s Renegade, Drake’s Forever).
I can respect that you don’t like him, but I think you are overlooking his lyrical & song writing ability and replacing it with ‘he raps fast and is white, therefore he’s popular’.

There are best of an era but of all time is difficult. It has to be Tupac because is influenced Tats, image, being a movie star, lived what he rapped, was against white supremacy, black panther upbring (tied to some of the most revolutionary people ever) and is the only rapper to have a choked hold on the game to the point of suffocation. The only way he could be stopped was to kill him and that’s what happened.
This guy has been one of my favourite artists since the 1st time I heard Brain Damage on the “Don’t Give A Fuck” single in ’97ish. His 1st 3 albums are still some of my favourites today. He had moments on Encore that I really liked but overall it was iffy… for him. Relapse I did not hate like a lot of others… his flow and word play were sick, the content was meh and the accent was apparent although I did not let it take away from how he was spitting, overall it was still not a great album. Recovery also had a lot of great moments but yet again did not capture me like the 1st three did. Hell Deluxe was a slept on album. Thought it was a great collabo and I thought Royce and he complimented each other well… figured he was all the way back although still yelling a lot. This track reminds me of something that probably should have been on Recovery… its not an awful track but its nothin to be screaming “holy shit Em is back” either by a long shot. 3/5 is fair at best here. Hope the Album is much better. Love to see this guy remind everyone why he was the shit in the late 90s early 2000s again!

I think his new flow/delivery is still as tight as it ever was, he’s just not so much in his youth now and doesn’t have that same hunger for rap as he did when he was still making it in the business. He’s basically had his peak and doesn’t even need to put anything in, all he does now is just raps his lyrics and releases shit every now and then to tide the fans over with material. He just doesn’t sound like a kid anymore and thank God he’s not trying to mimic his old voice and flow as that’d be horrible and would be way worse him trying to be as good as he was rather than just being as good as he now is, just because he’s changed his flow up and he has a different delivery and sound to his voice now that he’s a lot older doesn’t mean he’s any worse now.
I know his latest material is very forced because he has no real need to rap, he’s made all the sales he needs to be rich for life and he’s left us with enough hits to be thankful for. He’s just trying every angle he can and is just trying to have fun and make popular music still for the people that don’t want his career to be completely over.
Everything from Relapse onwards is clearly just the lyrics he’s thought up over the years moulded into tracks and put out. Every half decent rhyme that doesn’t even apply to anything, it’s just him thinking up bars that don’t really go anywhere and songs that he’s made that fit together and can be shaped into an album of some sort. I bet he’s written a song about pretty much every other topic and rather than throwing them all away forever and ever into a vault, he’s just picked out all the songs with the same kinda content and quality and put them together.

Relapse was not a modern MMLP. Relapse was completely out of this world. MMLP had its roots in real life. On the MMLP, we heard music from a normal man dealing with normal shit. The only example that was out of this world Relapse shit was ‘Kim’. Relapse was totally detached from normal thought. From incest to rape to drug induced inanities to mutilation – Relapse was a wild, fucking fucked up masterpiece. MMLP was full of angst, Relapse was full of psychotic madness. No one wants to hear a 40yr old rap about angst and shit. Recovery was not a total maturing of Eminem. That album was full of random IMMATURE shit too. Encore had mockingbird, toy soldiers, evil deeds, spend some time, yellow brick road: all of those are ‘mature’ type tracks but that album was also FULL of IMMATURE bullshit (rain man, big weenie, etc.) And yes, I heard Symphony in H. Shit is good sonically, but content wise, its wierd and unsatisfying because it is the similar content to his earlier career. If this track had purposeful content (social commentary maybe? Adressing Detroit’s current situation, addressing other important shit) it would be dope.
