North Carolina rapper Bussdown — real name Walter Morrell McKoy Jr. — was reportedly sentenced to life in prison for the 2015 murder of 21-year-old William Covington. He actually rapped about the shooting on his 2017 track, “Cookies.”
“I rob a nigga for all of his chains and all of his weed/I bust his brain, I leave him stankin’ down in them trees,” he spit.
The Robesonian reports McKoy was convicted in Lumberton Superior Court earlier this month. He was found guilty of first-degree murder, robbery with a firearm and discharging a firearm inside city limits. Judge Robert Floyd handed down the sentence the same day of the trial.
In March 2015, McKoy shot Covington after they had an argument over a missing gun. Covington allegedly loaned McKoy a firearm that was never returned.
According to Senior Assistant District Attorney Martha Duvall, McKoy went to Covington’s residence on the day of the shooting and the two men got into a vehicle to talk. They ultimately ended up struggling over the firearm, which allegedly discharged accidentally during the struggle.
Covington was shot three times in the head and all three rounds struck him in such a way that the wounds were in a semicircle above his right ear. The wounds were in a grouping about four inches wide.
Duvall said such a organized grouping couldn’t been formed by an accidental discharge, which the jury evidently believed.
