Is being anointed with this crown more of a burden than a blessing?

You don’t have to defend a wack album. The ’99 Eminem would make a diss song against himself if he had heard Revival. Btw he has never been a GOAT. He used “the weak” as punching bags that he was sure would never diss back. Just like Xtina, Britney, JT – so exactly that league of pop superstars who he works with nowadays. I mean in popularity, because Britney actually made way better and more influental music than Pink or any of the guests on his album. Yeah, I know that overrated bitch Beyoncé is also on that. Who cares? The song is wack af. Vanilla Ice is more hiphop than Bey. Her husband is Jay-Z? And? If I fuck a hippy girl will I be Hendrix? And if you talk about Em’s money I’d add money is not an excuse for bad taste.
Vanilla ice is more hip hop than Beyonce? That statement alone is mind boggling. Do you even know what makes somebody a goat to begin with? All this and more from the HIPHOPDX comment section.
Yes, Brother Morris. This nimrod just disrespected Queen Bey. I’ve been trying to tell these cats to DELETE THIS COMMENT SECTION, but ain’t nobody listening. Who I gotta talk to? Murs? Justin?
Murs gotta disagree with you on this one. Revival was just not a good album. Em sounds tired, bored, his flow is completely off with all that stop/start choppy shit. I think we all appreciate the message behind the political content but the execution was terrible. We’d be clowning anyone who dropped something like this. GOAT or not, it sound tonedeaf and undercooked. Sure he’s judged at a higher standard than most but I think you’re underestimating the fans. We all knew Magna Carta Holy Grail wasn’t the best Jay was capable of and we all applauded when he upped his game and dropped 4:44. You think if Black Thought’s freestyle was full corny bars about ‘heavy duty like diahrea’ his freestyle would still get the same props? i dont think so. We know he’s great and he confirmed our belief. we all know Em is great but this album gave us reason to question that belief.
Delete my comment all you want but you can’t defend a wack album because you assume we should all like it on the strength of you liking it. Using your position on DX also will not negate the fact that maybe you have a distorted view of what is a good rap album due to personal biases. In short Murs, the album was lame and for someone with that much money he could have afforded to release two albums if he wasn’t sure of himself!
Em is not the G.O.A.T never was. Super talented but every person that knows where Hip Hop came from and lives it knows Em is this huge bc he’s European American. NOT saying he doesn’t have skills!!! NOT saying he hasn’t released CLASSICS! But he’s a pop rapper at the end of the day it’s in his DNA. Not saying that about every European !!! If we keep it Hip HOP if we keep it REAL leave the corporate and anything European influenced out business wise and just keep it Hip Hop Em would still be noticed, still respected but he wouldn’t be a praised as he is. He’s super talented but he’s overrated and if we just keep it Hip Hop, leave the bullshit where it belongs it wouldn’t be a debate. The Culture doesn’t care about him as much as the European corporate world does. THEY are the ones pushing him NOT Hip Hop. I agree with the Black thought case the Culture pushes him not the corporation bc he truly represents US and what WE created! Em represents people outside looking in wanting to copy and control. he culture doesn’t buy his music bc it isn’t for us. We vibrate to high to for his style and expression. Even if Black thought sold and had as much money as Em he would never do a song with Pink bc he represents the culture Em represents the Europeans vision not the actual reality of the culture and the direction were headed….. And it’s not in Em’s and other Pop stars direction….
I agree with Murs 100%. Just appreciate Revival for what it is. Who am I to tell Em what kind of album to make? We’ve never seen an album like this from him, so props for doing something different. Adding a new notch in the belt.
IF Jay had Pink, ed whoever and other pop stars on his album we’d be having the same debate. He represents the culture consciously and subconsciously so he could never go that route! Culture and integrity over sales and money! Black excellence over European economics and business! There sellouts everywhere see where look at hiphop is now it’s a circus! But for the ones that want to preserve and push the culture forward we’ll support! The ones including Eminem that have and will sell out for the number one spot will never have the respect Corporations try to manipulate us to have for them…
All the people talking black thought and eminem here I’m surprised the Tupac and biggie worshippers aren’t losing their minds. People ride them because of their untimely deaths. If eminem died after the 99-04 run he’d have even bigger goat claim than he already does. Hell if 50 got capped during or after his massive first 2 album run (biggie) 50 would be getting the pac biggie praise
It seems like you’re confusing criticism of an album with revocation of his GOAT status. Eminem forever has a place in the Hall of Fame as one of the most accomplished and technically gifted rappers ever. That does not mean I have to like the Revival album. That can be mediocre and Eminem still be great. But just like Revival being weak doesn’t mean Eminem isn’t great, Eminem’s being great doesn’t mean we should pretend to be enjoying Revival.
It’s laughable to see all the mental gymnastics people are pulling to try and explain away Eminem’s latest trash album. Em has classics, but he’s at the point where he’s put out more mediocre/trash albums than classics. Still remember when I listed to the MMLP for the first time, damn what a listen. RIP to the one of the greats.
He made an album for strictly sales and the product suffered… end of story. Prob marks the ending of me caring about Rap considering I’m an adult and everything jus sounds like shit to me now.
Okay here’s something – I think Rakim is a top ten rapper and one of the most innovative and creative rappers ever to do it. But, oh god, try listening to the last record he made (The Seventh Seal in 2009) – PURE GARBAGE. Kool G Rap is an absolute pioneer in the genre but try listening to most of Half a Klip (WEAK!).
People get to be hip hop LEGENDS and then drop weak as fuck records later in their career, and that’s fine. and Eminem, as great as he was when he started, has a lot of weak as fuck records.
same thing happens to every rapper. when wayne drops d6 everyone will say man this isnt OLD WAYNE. just appreciate the music. it the record doesn’t click with you it doesn’t mean its trash it just means it wasn’t for you. the best part of music is you can always go back and listen to the records you like.

Weezy is the GOAT!! End of discussion.
