Phili’s own, Mr Eon and Mighty Mi, have finally followed up their near classic ’99 debut, “Home Field Advantage.” Much like Jurassic 5 and Edan, Eon and Milo keep it true to the old school with a new school flavor. There are some noticeable differences this time around on “Air Force 1,” there is a massive cut in guest appearances and there are no Alchemist beats. Mighty Mi handles the majority of the production with a little help from J-Zone (“Artillery“) and Ayatollah (“You Don’t Wanna Fuck With“).
There are of course a few requisite appearances, fellow Smut Peddler Cage assists Eon on the dark “More In Outs,” RA The Rugged Man appears with Havoc?!? on “You Don’t Wanna Fuck With.” And of course, Copywrite comes through to tear up the mic and he does just that on “Nowhere To Hide At.” To say that Copywrite steals the show would be an understatement when he spits lines like “I drop bars like a recovering alcoholic.” While the previous mention tracks, “Artillery,” “More In Outs,” and “Nowhere To Hide At” are the standout tracks on the album, they pale in comparison to previous classics like “The Meaning,” “Dirty Decibals,” “Dick Starbuck,” “Hands On Experience 2,” and “Open Mic Night RMX.”
That is probably the most disappointing thing about the album, most tracks are pretty good but they just doesn’t seem to live up to the quality of their debut. By no means does this mean that the High & Mighty are no longer just that, “Air Force 1 EP” is still an enjoyable listen that ultimately leaves you wanting more. The album seems criminally short at only 10 tracks (with interludes) when this is their first album in nearly 3 years (not counting Smut Peddlers and their compilation albums). All in all, a nice release from Eon and Milo.
