Drake’s “Hotline Bling” was the #2 song on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart last week. It has steadily climbed the charts since its debut on the Toronto rapper’s OVO Sound Beats 1 radio show in July.
Drake posts on Instagram a screenshot of a tweet from Billboard’s report that “Hotline Bling” reached the second slot on the Hot 100 list.
“I spend my life trying to make waves for the city I am from,” he writes in the caption. “No accolades really matter to me other than the fact that I have never had a billboard number one. If I get my first number one during the month of October it will be the biggest moment of my career to date (in my mind) and if you are looking for me on that particular evening I will be passed out in the water slide that connects to our pool. I love you and thank you for these memories. I always love the moment right before it happens more than when it actually happens. So thank you…even if it doesn’t.”
“Hotline Bling” was the top song on the R&B and Hip Hop digital singles chart for the first time last week.
The song has been covered by Kehlani, Sam Smith, Alessia Cara, Jadakiss and others.
