Janette Beckman: Oh Snap!

Upon arriving to the United States, Janette Beckman had already shot three Police album covers, The Clash and The Sex Pistols. This Brit Punk queen traded her studded leather for Kangols and Cazals as she became of the go-to photographers for 1980s Hip Hop. Spending years as a staff photographer for Def Jam, Sleeping Bag Records and Next Plateau, Janette was one of the first people to ever get LL Cool J, Run-DMC, Rick Rubin or Gang Starr (as we know them) in front of a camera.

Beckman‘s work defined images, became album covers and still resonates today with the way we think of classic, golden era Hip Hop in our minds. This extensive work is relived through her recently published PowerHouse coffee-table book The Breaks.
