SoundCloud has introduced a streaming limit that only allows 15,000 plays per 24 hours. The measure will be implemented July 1.
“We’re dealing with an increasing number of applications that abuse creator content by violating our developer Terms of Use,” the press release says. “To help control this type of behaviour, we’re introducing a daily rate limit on API play requests.”
This only affects third-party apps who use SoundCloud. The streaming service’s own players and embeds will not be affected.
Soundcloud is a popular tool for independent artists.
SoundCloud recently agreed to a deal with Merlin to pay royalties to 20,000 independent labels.
So the regular cat like me who just listens won’t be affected right?
Yep.
“The streaming service will now only allow so many plays over a 24-hour period. SoundCloud has introduced a streaming limit that only allows 15,000 plays per 24 hours.”
