Kendrick Lamar Covers Rolling Stone

Kendrick Lamar appears on the cover of Rolling Stone‘s latest issue.

The TDE rapper is dressed in a Chicago White Sox Starter jacket and is getting his hair twisted by a female – (only her torso and legs are included on the cover) – next to the headline: “The Trials Of Kendrick Lamar.”

Rolling Stone’s March issue marks the first time Kendrick has appeared on the renowned music publication’s cover, which was shot in Hollywood, California.

    K. Dot’s cover story is being dubbed by the music mag as “his most revealing interview yet.”

RS caught up with Kendrick in his hometown of Compton, California to discuss his rough upbringing, battles with depression, navigating his newfound success and the details of his forthcoming To Pimp A Butterfly album.

While the full interview won’t be available until it hits stands March 13, RS has teased a portion of it online.

When asked to give an explanation of the album’s title, Lamar tells RS, it “will be taught in college courses someday.”

He describes the album as “honest, fearful and unapologetic.”

“You take a black kid out of Compton and put him in the limelight, and you find answers about yourself you never knew you were searching for,” he says. “There’s some stuff in there, man. It’s a roller coaster. It builds.”

    1. Kendrick sold out! We repped when Section.08 dropped, but he fell off after releasing Dark Sky Paradise. It didn’t even sound like him for the whole album, it’s like he was copying Big Sean 🙁 Squad up or get down snitches!! The Poland Squad gang is dropping that heat at 12:01AM tomorrow, so watch out and smoke down if you want that trill ill hip hop trap musizk my drizzles. Squad up and respect Self Service, GA. G’d up all day on turtle juice

      1. huh! ‘dark sky paradise’ IS big sean’s album…what u talkin bout willis??

kendrick’s new album is called ‘to pimp a butterfly’ and it drops 3/23/15.

and there is no such thing as ‘hip hop trap music’. hip hop is hip hop. trap music is trap music.i respect both for what they are, but they are definitely not linked.

      2. No, Dark Sky Paradise IS Kendrick’s New album. He had that drake with Drake and Kanye. Squad up my dude! Hip Hop Trap Musizk is the realest form of the genre right now. Me and my dude make that trill song everday on our PS4’s. What you know about that snitchess? If Big Sean wants to release an album called “To Pimp A Butterfuly”, that’s fine, I just hope he puts that “Energy” song on the album. That goes hard like miracle whip

      3. Problem my dude? It’s my opinion if Lamar Kendrick sold out! He’s still my 21st best rapper, so watch your mouth G boy. squad up all day in this trail mix soup

      4. Bruh if you want to call someone out for selling out at least make some sense. Dark sky paradise is Big Sean album. You sound fuckn stupid

      1. Wrong. To Pimp A Butterfly will sell platinum or more. The hype is too big for it to sell less than that. The real bitch/hoe is you.

      2. What fucking hype? His I single bombed and that blackberry single (jacking on drake’s preference) also flopped. It will go gold at best. Either way, he won’t reach drake’s sales.

      3. The hype it’s getting right now. I didn’t bomb as it made the Top 40 and Blacker The Berry (which didn’t jack any of Drake’s preference), didn’t bomb, either. This album will sell platinum at the least and he will reach Drake’s sales.

      4. The I single fell of quickly though. It’s longetivity that matters. And That other single didn’t even make top 40. Drake shits on this guy lyrically.

      5. To Pimp A Butterfly won’t flop. It’s impossible for it to flop and when it succeeds, you will make excuses.

    2. Anyone remember that Marsupilami cartoon? Remember the sound they used to make? *titignas* Am I the only one?

    3. I dig Kendrick and I’m happy for this guy – he makes good music – but I can’t help but see a lil absurdity of him getting a Rolling Stone cover before Drake. And I’m not blaming Kendrick for this but I just think Rolling Stone has been picking favorites. Nicki Minaj, Justin Beiber have got multiple covers but none for Drake who has outsold/out-innovated everybody even most pop music acts, Its weird. And yeah, Spock died and no “Leonard Nimoy” cover switch. But then again, I remember when albums like “Midnight Mauraders” garnered 2 star reviews in Rolling Stone. So whatever. I have a feeling there is gonna be lots of Drake-baiting in the interview

      1. Drake isn’t innovative and Rolling Stone reviews are meaningless. Why do you Drake stans always have to bring him up on every Kendrick Lamar article? Leave that at an actual Drake article.

      2. If you’re looking to Rolling Stone for hip-hop news/reviews, then you’re looking in the wrong place.

      3. Rolling Stone does seem to have it out for Drake. Drake has dropped 4 classic albums (Thank Me Later being the only non-classic LP) and he still doesn’t get a cover. That’s some bullshit. Maybe after Views from the 6ix drops, he’ll get one.

      4. Rolling Stone is just trying to get back at Drake for dissing them on his album. He references them on a track and sends a shot regarding asking all these questions…
