Kendrick Lamar Enlists Pete Rock For Sophomore Album

Kendrick Lamar’s “Control” verse anniversary might be approaching, but his follow-up to good kid, m.A.A.d. city has also been the focus of conversations surrounding the TDE emcee.

Recently, Pete Rock spoke with XXL about how he’s contributed to the Compton, California rapper’s sophomore album.

“I did some scratching and I’m on the hook on one of his songs on his album,” Pete Rock says. “I’m really excited about that. It’s just a regular hook. I can’t really sing it to you. You’re just going to have to hear it.”

Pete Rock says he met Kendrick Lamar through text messages and that his work with Ab-Soul and ScHoolboy Q has also allowed him to slowly build rapport with Top Dawg artists.

Recently, Kendrick Lamar spoke with Devi Dev of 93.7 The Beat in Houston, Texas, about the upcoming effort

“I really can’t focus on the past and what was said then,” he added. “You’re only as good as your last piece of work, so now it’s about what’s right now and me putting that same 110 percent that I did with the last one.”

    1. No way a song with scratches and a Pete Rock hook will actually make the album. Kendrick’s last album went platinum, and his fans don’t wanna hear no real hip-hop. He has that good modern mainstream friendly but still kinda indie production, and he better not change that. nothing good will come of that.

and just to clarify, I love Mecca and the Soul Brother and The Main Ingredient but P. R. in 2014? fuck outta here son

      1. You must live under a F*ckin rock son. Go check Roc Marciano, come back and then post your feelings about P.R’s production skills you dumb F*ck

      2. Kendrick Lamar is real hip hop. He is the best rapper to come along in a decade. Yes, Pete Rock in 2014, because he actually still makes tight beats with ill drums and ill bass lines, unlike all the weak ass fake keyboard playing producers.

      1. You seem to be a bit stupid if you really say that. If that’ only trolling, then it’s okay. I highly doubt it was only trolling…

    2. Call it a sophmore album if you want, I’m still looking at Section .80 as his debut album. Aftermath or no, to me it’s his first album.

    3. oooooooooooooooooooooooo shit kendrick pete rock and iggy azelia on the same song?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
