    1. I wish I could give this a zero. Woman, say COLE makes the same music but KRIT does too. & the fact she doesn’t understand what COLE is saying in firing squad is absurd.

      1. Of course you didn’t directly, but indirectly you did. You said something about him calling out or dissing white artists (can’t remember exactly what you said)…how though? What he said was true. Genres that were started by black folks are now made more popular but white folks. Isn’t that not the truth? Krit hasn’t done anything that’s innovative or different from any of his past work and yet you praise it. That’s the most hypocritical shit ever.

      1. Your reasoning behind disliking j.coles verse which was mad relevant for the times and needed to be spoke was putrid. you said bc he cant hold his own???? i think appropriation of hip hop is a very important thing to talk about in music. It feels like you have something personal for j.cole Ms.Pratt. Do you make music of any kind or do you just sit in front of a camera with opinions?

    2. please explain y jay electronica verse on phryme isn’t the verse of the year??? Royce is a beast and he was a shadow on that track

      1. Ha! No doubt, james g. “When the angels heard me spit / they bit they lip / this shit is hard…” My favorite bar of the year. Thanks for checking the joint.

    3. SHIT I THINK J.COLE SHOULD WIN THE WHOLE THING HIS VERSES WERE DEEP AND ON POINT IN THIS ALBUM COLE REALLY STEPPED HIS GAME UP THAT’S WHY HIS THIRD ALBUM IS GOING GOLD NEXT WEEK AND I CAN’T THINK OF A BETTER WAY TO CLOSE OUT 2014 THEN WITH A CERTIFIED GOLD ALBUM Y’ALL CAN SAY COLE IS BORING AND WACK ALL U WANT BUT THE TRUTH IS COLE SAVED HIP HOP FOR 2014 CAUSE ALBUM SALES STUNK THIS YEAR FOR RAP NO ONE OF THESE RAPPERS COULD SALE 200K OR OVER THEIR FIRST WEEK ONLY NICKI AND J.COLE WERE ABLE TO SALE OVER 200K OR MORE THEIR FIRST WEEKS BUT COLE THE ONLY ONE THAT WILL PUT UP A CERTIFIED PLAQUE FOR WHAT IS PROBABLY ONE OF THE WORST HIP HOP SALES YEARS IN HISTORY SO YALL SHOULD BE THANKING COLE FOR STEPPING TO THE PLATE WHEN BIG NAMES WERE TO BUSY THIS YEAR DEALING WITH ISSUES AND DELAYS TO DROP AN ALBUM AND PUT DOPE NUMBERS ON THE BOARD FOR RAP COLE HAD TO SAVE HIP HOP FOR 2014 FROM A COMPLETE DISASTROUS FLOP AND HE PROVED EVERYBODY WRONG THAT DOUBTED HE COULD JUST RELEASE A ALBUM THREE WEEKS BEFORE IT’S DUE DATE WITH NO MAJOR PROMOTIONS,GIMMICKS, STUNTS, OR RADIO SINGLES AND STILL GOT A NUMBER ONE ALBUM WITH OVER 350K SOLD FIRST WEEK AND ABOUT TO GO GOLD IN A SHORT TIME SHOWS THE RAP GAME THAT LOYAL FANS WILL RIDE OR DIE FOR U NO MATTER WHAT CRITICS THINK THERE FOR J.COLE IS ONE OF HIP HOPS TOP ELITES AND WILL BE HERE FOR AWHILE SO GET USES TO IT CAUSE IT’S A COLE WORLD

    4. J cole connects with people. Its his strength and artist would cut off a body part to get it. Even if his albums are flawed . He has true fans. That priceless. The world needs truth and passion and most importantly our youth need it. Hats off.

    5. Terrible… cole drops a solid album and you guys rip it apart. Jay Elec has dropped 0 albums and you’re all over his balls about a verse on an overused beat..please

    6. Hi DX

I think that guy should go back to Complex, this whole wrap up sucked a dick.It sounds more like you want pop music and are mediocresy in Hip Hop.

The whole wrap up sucked a dick.

      Kindest Regards,

      Bag

    7. Whack video!!! You guys found a way to rip apart Coles awesome album when it wasn’t even a runner up for disappointing album, then Sparkle talks shit on Fire Squad… How is Cole contradictory??? I will never view a video from you two again I agree with other post I should be reimbursed for giving you my time. WHACK!!!

    8. These two are funny….J cole’s album not even a runner up, but they just HAD to mention it as “disapointing”…smh…on the same headline page we can see how a hiphop vet like eric sermon respects cole. Sparkle even goes so far as to call him arrogant. Sounds like hate to me…just sayin

    9. This was one of craziest reviews I’ve ever seen. Jcole is the modern day Nas with better beats and production. His music is geared towards everday people who live through struggles and trying to overcome those struggles. Jcole strongest attribute is telling stories that people can relate to. Sparkle you prefer Young Thug who sounds like a muffet baby on crack/cocaine rather than Jcole? you cant be serious. What you talking about is not real hip hop. Jcole is real hiphop. Hov,Nas,DMX and several other greats have co-signed him already. The people have co-signed him already. You my dear are and have hated on greatness.

    10. terrible journalism, completely out of touch with what’s going on in this genre of music. the shade on Cole was ridiculous, he makes the same music and…. ross doesn’t?, wayne doesn’t?, jay doesn’t?, RICH GANG DOESN’T?… meanwhile you want another illmatic… what a vague meaningless bullshit expecation… that again you have for him and no one else.

Terrible Review. This website lost all credibility.

    11. Ok so this turned into a “Hate on Cole” segment?!?!? WTF. You guys lost all credibility when you said Cole had one of the most disappointing albums of the year. Then Sparkles (or whoeva the fuck that is) feels the need to call Cole contradictory because he went down to Ferguson and then he had a potent verse talking about the appropriation of black music? She must be a fucking Iggy fan because I don’t see where the hate for Cole is coming from. Cole for Album of The Year, fuck what HHDX thinks!

    12. Why do ya’ll let these bloggers and reviewers troll ya’ll. The only way they are relevant is if ya’ll respond and they make ya’ll respond by being contrarians. Like Jay-z said, a critics opinion doesn’t matter. The fans are the critics, only reason why music critics even matter is they use to get access to unrelease music before the fans. Their opinion on music is not superior to yours, they’re just as biased as anyone else. Especially that broad Sparta, Sparkle, or whatever her name is.

They just want those website hits so they become contrarians to piss off the Cole fans. Same shit for those other bloggers too.

    13. That Cole album is going to go down in hip-hop history. Cole is one of the most important figures in hip hop right now and he is just getting bashed in this segment. Yet, she sit up there talking about how much she like that dress wearing fag that you can’t even understand 85 percent of the words he says. Cole just dropped the most successful hip hop album of the year without a single. And…he is not dissing white rappers you jack ass. He’s making a point. Look at how Kendrick got robbed at the grammys last year. That’s the type of shit that’s going to continue to happen. I have been a fan of HHDX for ten years and it’s starting to get to me on some personal type shit. I’m not saying treat Cole like he’s Jesus, but don’t come on what’s supposed to be an authentic source for hip hop and praise Young Thug faggit ass and bash J.Cole in the same segment. That shit is disrespectful to the culture and this is not an opinion.

    14. She sat up there and said Cole album is boring, yet Logic album was a runner up for album of the year. I like the Logic album, but why is that not considered boring on their scale. Go back and look at Illmatic, which is my favorite hip hop album ever. That album was just beats and bars. And of course content. Cole gave you that plus more. But it’s OK. Even the chronic wasn’t looked at as classic when it first came out. It’s a reason he is one of the most respected amongst his peers, and it’s not because he’s put out a wack album. Shit, I’m scared to see what you are going to have to say about Wale next. Then I guess we forgot that Cole’s last album out shined Kanye. This segment has really ruined my day. I almost think the two of you said that shit on purpose just to piss people off. Young Thug is AIDS in the hip hop and black community.

p.s. bring back the old way that you used to show album sales. Thanks. Keep real hip hop alive

      1. the journalists at HipHopDx have proven themselves to not be qualified. everything you said was 100% true with some actual thought behind it, along with some perspective when looking at the big picture. When it’s over Cole will be a legend, and HipHopDx will be on the wrong side of history.

      2. Agreed whole heartedly.

And why they can’t see that Young Thug is the aids of Hip Hop is crazy….

HHDX, needs to do a category for Epic Blog Fails for the year and just vote itself the winner because this year showed how much HHDX is losing its grip on the pulse of Hip Hop.

    15. the author of this article is an idiot. you realize that you attracted all of the cole fan-boys to hate on you because instead of shouting out whoever won the verse of the year, (in your opinion) you say that j cole is runner up…….

i could watch the video, but im sure you know better than anyone that nobody actualy watches your videos. i understand that you guys are trying to make money, but the way to make money is create quality content. you guys are unprofessional trash that really dont care about anything except generating traffic and ad revenue.

im sure you will dismiss my comments and think that you know better. but you are walking over dollars to get to pennies.

    16. oh, by the way. i just wanted to let you know i use adblock to piss you off. its obvious you all are too novice to find alternative ways of generating revenue.

maybe instead of ignoring what i said you should start reading books. or get into a business that you are actualy passionate about

    17. Who pays this overfed gorilla to sit there and criticize classics… I mean obviously ol girl has something against Cole as a person. And then this idiot sits there and confirms how ignorant and out of touch she is with music by admitting that she listens to young thug on a daily, that sentence alone disqualifies every single word she uttered, because it’s obvious she doesn’t know music.

    18. The way i actually want to punch this chick in the face. I don’t know what she has against cole, but to say his album was boring and disappointing, someone needs to slap her. How she going to try and talk about cole when she says a fan of young thug and likes backpack rap. Clearly don’t know shit about rap, stick to young thug and backpack rap and don’t concern yourself with real hip hop

      1. Thanks for checking the video, hatethischick. Full disclosure: I deleted your second comment. Imploring people to attack someone over differing opinions is flaccid, tacky, and screams glaring personal insecurities that are better left to yourself. Nevertheless, what’s wrong with being a Young Thug fan?

      2. Nothing wrong with being a young thug fan but when the voice of a magazine disrespects j cole during a video where you’re supposed to be honoring J Cole you look crazy. that’s you cool you deleted the post but everybody’s criticisms are still valid, unlike the journalists words in the video. (obviously the violence is wrong but don’t deflect, why the magazine let them say that dumb shit)

      3. Being a Young Thug fan is the equivalent of being a Soulja Boy fan in my eyes. I don’t respect people because they can make a hit song not saying shit. This is Hip Hop and if u ain’t saying nothing at all and you aren’t even making an attempt to be witty in any way, then fuck your music. Look right now its clear as day, people DONT want BS music with no lyrical content, no message, no substance. We want back that real and we are willing to go buy it if its on point. Young Thug is a fad at best and won’t be commercially viable in the long run. Investing in artists like these are the reason Hip Hop is looking all fucked up right now. So when u have a supposed “journalist” say she has been listening to Young Thug and is a fan, you guys lose! Just remember that. Stop getting behind wack shit.

    19. I’ve never clicked on a video link on DX and I’m not about to any time soon.

I’ve read through the comment and the gist of the video is some broad pretty much dissed J.Cole and his latest Opus.

Well, I don’t see nothing wrong with that. It’s her opinion at the end of the day. You are what you eat; she likes Young Thug’s music…?, so how does one expect her to appreciate Cole’s music?

What Cole delivered is sonically and lyrically superior to what she’s used to or grew up on. Let her be her, she doesn’t speak for nor does she represents the demography Cole raps for…so it’s what it is.

    20. Ya’ll are playing into their hands. They are trolling ya’ll with the J Cole hate because it will generate traffic with his fanbase. The best thing you can do is not respond and let the article die a painful death.

    21. Sorry the best verse of the year was the 2nd Verse on “03′ Adolescence” I aint even a J. Cole fan, but there hadn’t been a more relatable verse in almost a decade.

“I always did shit the hard way, my nigga (inaudible) slangin’ in the hallway
Burnt CD’s and trees like this was Broadway
Times Square, kept the dimes there in the locker
      Some Reggie Miller
With more brown hairs than Chewbacca
Whispers that he got it for the low low, sell a
Dime for a dub, them white boys ain’t know no better
Besides, what’s twenty dollars to a nigga like that?
He tell his pops he need some lunch and he gon’ get it right back
      I peep game
Got home snatched my mama keychain
Took her whip, the appeal, too ill to refrain
I hit the boulevard pull up to my nigga front do’
His mama at home, she still let em’ hit the blunt though
I told her hello, and sat with my nigga and laughed
And talked about how we gon’ smash all the bitches in class
I complimented how I see him out here getting his cash
And just asked, “What a nigga gotta do to get that?
Put me on,” he just laughed when he seen I was sure
17 years breathing his demeanor said more
He told me, “Nigga, you know how you sound right now?
If you wasn’t my mans, I would think that you a clown right now
Listen, you everything I wanna be that’s why I fucks with you
So how you looking up to me when I look up to you?
You bout to go get a degree, I’ma be stuck with two choices:
Either graduate to weight or selling number two
For what? A hundred bucks or two a week?
Do you think that you would know what to do if you was me?
I got, four brothers, one mother that don’t love us
If they ain’t want us why the fuck they never wore rubbers?”
I felt ashamed to have ever complained about my lack of gear
And thought about how far we done came
From trailer park to a front yard with trees in the sky
Thank you mama, dry your eyes, there ain’t no reason to cry
You made a genius and I, ain’t gon’ take it for granted
I ain’t gon’ settle for lesser, I ain’t gon’ take what they handed
Nah I’m gon’ take what they owe me and show you that I can fly
And show old girl what she missing, the illest nigga alive
      Aye who am I?”

      1. diden’t read your longass post cause it got no structuree so this is all i gotta say:

Best verse of 2014: El-P on Crown…no contest… best verse i’ve heard in YEARS

    22. This is kinda gimmick-y of marketing with the headline but….Nobody’s Perfect aye nobody’s perfect aye aye but your perfect for me..LOL!! Mt oylmpus great call HHDX I completely agree. Too the cole argument I have to somewhat agree…he can really make 12 songs seem like 17. I am glad that concious mc with a positive message managed to shake the game up the way he did. It’s always good to have balance. I would rather listen too migos over j cole 9 out of 10 times but I appreciate someone who is a purist as opposed to turning up all the time.

    23. Shorty seems like an avid cole hater. how could you say his verse was a contradiction when he was speaking on real life shit gengefricavion in our music is some real shit but i digress
