will.i.am has claimed that Michael Jackson once turned down an invite to a Prince show because he thought the “Purple Rain” legend was a “meanie.”

In a teaser of his upcoming Drink Champs interview, the Black Eyed Peas star detailed his efforts to get Jackson to go with him to a concert where he would be performing with Prince.

“I brought Mike to go see me rock with Prince in Vegas,” will said. “So one time, Mike called me. He’s in Vegas and he’s like, ‘I heard you guys have a show tonight.’ I’m like, ‘Yeah, we got a show, going on around 10.'”

The “My Humps” hitmaker said Jackson replied by saying: “‘Oh rats, I gotta put the kids to sleep.’ I’m like, ‘But you can come later, like in the middle of the show.’ [Mike replies], ‘No, if I don’t see the show from the beginning, there’s no way for me to know what’s actually going on.'”

André 3000 also recently shared an awkward Prince story of his own, revealing how he thought the late icon was dissing him the first time they met.

“I [had] met Prince in passing. [Around the time of] The Love Below, I lived in L.A. I remember me and the homie goin’ out to a club on Sunset [Boulevard],” he said on Questlove‘s Questlove Supreme podcast.

“So I’m sitting there, and he starts talking about ‘Hey Ya.’ But what he said, I didn’t know how to take it, if he was taking a dig at me or what. He said, ‘I like that song, ‘Hey Ya.’ I thought I was the only person who did songs in those tempos.’ That’s what he said to me. I didn’t know if he was like, ‘Mmm. Take that, n-gga.’ I didn’t know how to take it; this is my hero!”

3 Stacks added: “I didn’t know what to say him, so I said, ‘Hey, have you heard the album?’ He’s like, ‘Yeah, I heard it.’ I say, ‘Well, what do you think the next single should be?’ Then he said another Prince thing; he said, ‘In my day, we only had one shot.’
