Directed by Orian Barki and produced by The FADER, the 17-minute documentary Destiny features self-proclaimed New York aficionado Princess Nokia (real name Destiny Frasqueri) and takes viewers on an intimate journey with the ambitious young artist.

“I live in a place where Hip Hop was born,” Princess Nokia says in a press release. “My parents are b-boys and b-girls…they grew up breakdancing and experiencing Hip Hop for the first time. So I get to still experience a very authentic life in New York and I get to fall in love with it a lot all over again and that’s what I did this summer for making the record.”

She also gets extremely personal, and opens up about being abused, her mother passing away when she was young and foster care. We also get a look at her recording process with ex-boyfriend and producer Wiki. Acutely aware of who she is and what makes her a feminist woman, Princess Nokia appears to be as real as it gets.
