HipHopDX Premiere: As the son of a militant Islamic father, Los Angeles rapper/producer Mike Rebel was “taught to save their people from the social conditions that a history of oppression had landed them in,” according to a press release. His new video for “Stayin’ Alive,” however, finds Rebel rapping about his struggles with addiction and is clearly in need of a little saving himself.
“This video is about a few nights I spent with the ‘white girl,’ Rebel tells DX. “It’s a metaphor for my drug of choice, and the hallucinations and insanity that plagued me in those times. I think a lot of my people that struggle with addiction will relate and others will hopefully be entertained and warned with troubles I went through getting signed, and having too much money in Hollywood “
