HipHopDX Premiere: The New Mexico Hip Hop scene is not only alive and well, it’s thriving. The five elements of the culture (yes, five) are taken extremely seriously and it’s not uncommon to run into B-boy circles and live painting at a local show. Albuquerque-based Hip Hop collective, Products of the Golden Age (PGA), is unveiling the second video from its debut album, The Pantheon titled “Get Down,” which exemplifies New Mexico’s love for the genre.

Using drones and underwater Go-Pro cameras, the Concept Flux-directed video finds PGA blending lighthearted lyrics, a funky, bass heavy beat, and boundless energy, with B-boying and a pool party. The five members of the group—BlesInfinite, Nick FuriouStylz, Akword Actwrite, Epic Beats and DJ Intro—have secured a loyal local fanbase, including Albuquerque Poet Laureate Hakim Bellamy, and hope the momentum trickles throughout the rest of the world.

“The Name ‘Products of the Golden Age’ means homage,” Ballamy explains to DX. “It’s more than respect for the five elements and innumerable ancestors of Hip Hop culture—they’re the product. They are students of a professed lineage. They’re the ‘show ‘n prove’ of the old school, with the energy of the new.”
