The BET creatives of the forthcoming biopic, The New Edition Story, tapped deep into some Empire star power by casting Bryshere “Yazz” Gray as Michael Bivins and Bre-Z as Ricky Bell’s sister.
For the special New Edition cypher, both Empire alumni join Bivens and Ronnie DeVoe to get busy with the bars. Although both Philly rhymers are looked at by the masses as actors first, they had a few choice punchlines that managed to showcase their MC skills for any doubter.
With Bell and Tresvant both being singers first and foremost, their absences are understandable but it would have been epic to see Bobby Brown try his hand at busting a few flows to DJ Premier’s scratches. This particular freestyle sess not only sets the stage for the upcoming movie but Bell Biv DeVoe’s first album in 15 years as well.
