On September 13, 1996, Ed Lover, who was working at New York radio station Hot 97 at the time, interrupted a Nas performance at Nassau Coliseum to announce the sudden death of Tupac Shakur. He quickly dispelled rumors that it was a West Coast vs. East Coast beef that resulted in Shakur’s murder. “At 7:03 p.m. New York time, 4:03 p.m. Las Vegas time, Tupac Shakur passed away, y’all,” he said. The crowd naturally erupted in shock as Ed Lover asked for a moment of silence for “one of the greatest rappers that will ever live.”

Today (September 13, 2016), marks the 20th anniversary of Tupac’s death. The Hip Hop legend’s murder is still unsolved.
