Thanks in part to a loyal fan base built during his time at New York’s Power 105.1, DJ Self was established long before he joined the cast of Love & Hip Hop New York. Despite the added attention of reality TV, Self has stayed consistent, putting together a series of mixtapes and events including the successful Gwinin Festival. This season the LHHNY cameras were rolling as the showcase returned just in time to crown fellow cast mate Young B (also known as Bianca Bonnie) the winner.

Self explains, “Gwinin Fest is something that I throw, that helps unsigned artists get seen by people that I know.”

Sitting down with HipHopDX, he discussed his time on the show and more importantly, giving female emcees a platform to share raw talent. Self explains “Whether you like them or not, you still know them.”
