For all the fans who have been bummed out about not being able to catch the Yeezus tour, Kanye West has announced that Yeezus will indeed become a major motion picture. YES, as in releasing tour footage as a movie in theaters directed by none other than Hype Williams! These two have been making magic since 2005 and haven’t stopped since. Oh you can’t remember which videos he’s directed specifically? Allow me to take you on a trip down memory lane.

They began this beautiful artistic relationship in 2005 with Diamonds from Sierra Leone. The powerful black and white video was shot in the city of Prague and featured young African children slaving away in mines for diamonds while wealthy Europeans shop and try on jewelry. At the end of the video, you see text that reads, “Please purchase conflict-free diamonds.”

This was only the beginning of the journey for these two. A little over a month later, they released the video for Gold Diggerfeaturing Jamie Foxx which showed a more playful side to Williams’ directing. The list of videos goes on between these two brilliant minds; Drive Slow (Remix), Can’t Tell Me Nothing,StrongerHomecomingHeartless, Amazing and many many more.

In 2010, Kanye West released the video for Runaway, which served as the music video for the songs off his My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasyalbum. The 35 minute short film was directed by Kanye and written by Hype and depicts a romantic relationship between a man and a half-woman, half-phoenix. Who think of this kind of stuff?

A year later, the two minds would collide again for the platinum hit single All Of The Lights which featured a series of strobe-lit images. The video was pulled for some while because of reports of the video’s images causing seizures with epileptic viewers. Kanye re-released the video with the discretionary warning “potentially trigger[s] seizures for people with photosensitive epilepsy” as well as removing the opening prologue and neon credits.

With all that being said, I am definitely looking forward to seeing this film, which as of right now, does not have a release date. Check out the trailer above.
