Ahead of the release of Statik Selektah’s forthcoming album, 8, the prominent DJ/producer has dropped a single from the project — “Put Jewels On It” featuring Run The Jewels. As he puts it, it’s a collaboration that’s basically been waiting to happen.

“I’ve known these guys forever,” Selektah explains to HipHopDX. “It’s been overdue. Me and El bump into each other at this legendary bar in New York City called Max Fish, hence the intro. We’ve done a lot of festivals where they are on the same bill as me and Joey [Bada$$] as well.”

The Roc Nation affiliate, who’s been Bada$$’s tour DJ for the past five years, is putting the breaks on touring with Bada$$ while he gets 8 off the ground.

“I just recently slowed down on the road with him ’cause I been doing more of my own touring,” he says. “And I just did tour with The LOX.”
