HipHopDX Premiere: Former basketball player Mac Irv (real name Lawrence McKenzie) started off at the University of Oklahoma from 2003-05 before transferring to the University of Minnesota. After earning All Big-Ten honors in 2006-08 and playing for the Los Angeles Lakers’ Development League, Mac’s basketball career came to a halt due to a series of unfortunate injuries. Rapping, however, turned out to be his cathartic answer to his troubles.

Mac has rolled through with his latest project, Misfit, which is packed with 14 brand new tracks and a feature from Tory Lanez. “I’m excited for this project,” Mac tells DX. “I’ve been working on it tirelessly for the last year, and I want it to be heard by any and everyone who chooses to listen. I’m hopeful it’ll give some insight on social issues. It’ll be something women can relate to and something just to turn up with.”
