We covered Master P’s resurgence a few times this year. From the No Limit Boys to his upcoming biopic, to his viral worthy motivational interviews, and multiple mixtapes, Percy Miller made an impact in 2016. Judging his latest signee, 2017 could be infinitely more impressive than the previous 365.

The kid’s named Marqus CLAE (Creating Legacy All Day Everyday). He’s from Houston, TX and oozes excellence. As the story goes, CLAE’s mother ran into Master P in the airport and asked him to listen to her son’s music. P took a listen, was blown away by CLAE’s lyrical prowess, and signed him to No Limit almost immediately.

The track above is called “Homicide,” (a HipHopDX premiere) and is fresh from a batch of 15 tracks CLAE recorded with the Tank’s in-house beatsmith, Blaq N Mild. The pair locked in the studio for a day and a half and came away with a buffet of album-worthy material.

“Niggas be looking puzzled wondering tryin’ to figure out what the fuck made me bubble,” delivers on “Homicide’s” second verse. ”They wanted my style but I gave them nothing / That’s why they go wrong when they make assumptions / I keep stumpin’ / Fuck the nonsense / I remember when my stomach rumbled / Tryna flip scratch and tryna comfort / My inner thoughts because my mind be tumblin…”

Perhaps the most impressive part is that CLAE is only 16-years-old yet delivers with the confidence and maturity of emcees 10 years his senior. He’s also an actor with a major role in Fox’s upcoming drama series “Shots Fired” starring Tristan Wilds, Sanaa Lathan, Helen Hunt, Richard Dreyfuss, and several other heavy hitters.

Marqus CLAE’s mixtape CLAE is currently available and is presented by DJ Mustard. He was also mentored early by Lupe Fiasco. The kid brims with promise and positivity and may be the most exciting new artist to watch in 2017.
