A Tribe Called Quest released its long-awaited album, We got it from Here…Thank You 4 Your service on Friday (November 11) and appeared as the musical guest on an historic episode of Saturday Night Live the following day, which was hosted by Hip Hop enthusiast Dave Chappelle.

In between, Q-Tip and Jarobi White did an interview with Ebro’s Beats 1 Radio show, where Q-Tip gets emotional speaking on fellow Tribe member Phife Dawg’s untimely death. The Five-Foot-Assassin passed away in March due to complications stemming from diabetes. Toward the end of the 30-minute interview, Tip breaks down and is in tears as he talks about his fallen brother.

“You hear the brother’s voice,” Tip said. “I hear his voice and it’s like real talk [pauses]. It’s just wild because you know, not only was he like my first friend really, but we were able to build something together that we dreamt about as boys. Coming up in the neighborhood with Run and L and [Salt-N-Pepa’s] Sheryl and Sandy…I tear up because I just wish physically that he was here.”

He also said Phife wanted the last album more than he did and called the release “bittersweet,” saying, “I just wish my brother was here to enjoy these fruits.” Listen to the full interview above.
