HipHopDX Exclusive Premiere: Native Angeleno $K attributes his musical diversity to his mother and grandmother. “I grew up listening to gospel music with Granny and Moms — they played U2 and Van Halen in the car every day.”

$K is currently working on releasing his solo debut album called Mama’s Boy, a project dedicated to his mother. The first single from the project, “Who I Am,” is a great first look at $K’s musical ability. He opens the song with his raspy singing vocals, then uses the second half to showcase his hard-hitting raps.

The song hits close to home for him. “Who I Am” is a story of reflection after heartbreak. After celebrating his seven year anniversary with his high school sweetheart, the relationship came to an end. The date August 11 is precious to $K because that day would have been their eight year anniversary.
