Name: C.Young
Where are you from?
San Diego, California
What inspires you to create music?
My dreams, my nightmares and this thing called life that seems to be a mixture of the two…
Who are your musical influences?
Tupac, Nas and Bob Dylan
What is your mission in Hip Hop?
I used to think my mission was to change the world through Hip-Hop but now I believe Hip-Hop was put in my world to change me. In 2014, there’s a new rapper every 4 seconds it seems. As a child, I always imagined myself being heard around the world and gaining notoriety from being validated by the “in crowd”. Fortunately, as I got older I realized making good music validates me and not the number of people who care about it. I think people want to hear what I have to say though so I’m going to make a career out of this but I’m already successful in my eyes. Hip-Hop is a force that enlightened me.
What makes you different from other artists?
I’ve somehow managed to elevate the art of freestyling, start a genre fusion band and document my perspective over many different styles of music without losing my identity. I’m not saying anyone else can’t do that but I don’t think anyone puts as much passion into these things than I do. Straight up.
What other songs or projects are your working on?
I’m releasing a free project this fall called Blue Enigma. It’s inspired by my late grandfather, my journey and the world we live in. It’s my philosophy. It’s my scripture. It features Real J Wallace, Artt Lifted, Ric Scales, D.Dove, Cali Cam, Dame 55, Rossy, Elena Merino and soul healer named Melani.
What inspired these songs?
Divinity, Death, Jameson, Ambition and Marijuana.
What’s next for you as an artist?
Along side the “Blue Enigma” project, we will be releasing a Blue Enigma weed strain in some San Diego based Marijuana Dispenceries through a company that specializes in helping cancer patients with natural remedies. My grandfather passed away from cancer while I was working on this project and before he passed he told me to help my community like Jackie Robinson did for Brooklyn back when he was young. In 2015, VIBE’s debut album will drop as well and you’ll probably see me on a large tour at some point. Come support a brother, I’m the rap Mick Jagger.
What still surprises you about Hip Hop?
I’m still surprised that Hip-Hop hasn’t created a form of health insurance for artists especially when everyones having seizures and constantly getting shot at. Medical expenses are a bitch.
