HipHopDX details the story of Lecrae and Kendrick Lamar's friendship, told through songs and videos.

Lecrae and Kendrick Lamar have been friends for years, but have yet to collaborate musically. Lecrae has been more vocal about their friendship than the Compton rapper, but Kendrick’s co-sign on Lecrae’s first mixtape was one of the key moments that allowed the Reach Records founder and emcee to get some credit in the mainstream Hip Hop world. Here is a brief history of the friendship from Lecrae's perspective.

Kendrick Lamar’s appearance on "Church Clothes" video

K.Dot appears at the beginning of the "Church Clothes" video to introduce his friend. The Compton rapper joins DJ Premier, Statik Selektah and 9th Wonder in welcoming Lecrae to the main stage of Hip Hop.

Lecrae posts "Death to Molly" on Instagram

Kendrick made waves when he concluded his "Bitch Don’t Kill My Vibe" video with the words "Death to Molly," calling for an end to the glorification of the drug. Lecrae has always been vocal about his drug-free lifestyle. He gave his friend a nod with this Instagram post and the caption "Pop collars not mollies."

Lecrae tweets line from "Backseat Freestyle"

"Backseat Freestyle" is one of those songs that taken out of context can be the perfect example of everything that's wrong with Hip Hop. But Lecrae knows better. He tweeted this line because he knows the song was literally young Kendrick freestyling with his homies, dreaming about the day they made it big. And look where Kendrick is now.

Lecrae shouts out Kendrick on "Co-Sign Pt 2"

After the success of the first Church Clothes mixtape, Lecrae decided to make a sequel. He is sure to shout out Kendrick early, in the first verse of the first song.

I liked this article,I've heard his name but it was my 1st time hearing his music & I like that "Church Clothes" song. The article is different because like jay-Z said when he collaborated with Dead Prez "We're breaking down the boxes you put us in to separate us",this is a main-stream artist who is friends with a conscious artist.

Wtf was this point of the article. Rappers shout each other out all the time and are to be friends

Thanks for the clarification Victoria. Like you I enjoy both rappers. And I have a whole lot of respect for you cuz you responded. You've got more balls than most of the DX staff.

I actually liked this article because it was different. We always complain about news like "Lil Reese arrested" or " Lord Jamar gives insight on etc etc..." This type of piece is a step in the right direction. Good Job Vic!

Hi Boston hip hop fan! You are right rappers shout out their friends all the time. This article, to me, is different because Lecrae is still fairly new to the mainstream scene and I wanted to give a little glimpse into this key friendship. Also, some of Lecrae's core fan base is sometimes confused when he makes mainstream references like the ones above, so I wanted to show where I think he is coming from. I am a fan of both Lecrae and KDot because I think they are running in similar lanes. I'm excited to see what the future holds for both of them. Thanks for reading! (And go Celtics!)
