February 7th marks the would-be 40th birthday of James Dewitt Yancey, better known as J Dilla. The beloved beatsmith was taken too soon by a rare blood disease in 2006 and has remained a strong presence in Hip Hop, often being listed as an influence by his peers and emerging artists and producers.

Today, his hometown of Detroit, Michigan is celebrating “Dilla Day Detroit” and to commemorate Dilla’s celebration, Slum Village releases their Dilla-produced track, “Yes Yes.” The new song is the first single of the group’s upcoming (and for now, untitled) LP which will be released this Spring.

So click play, vibe out and continue to indulge in all your favorite Dilla tracks. That’s an order.
