Like a heavily co-signed star from the top of the decade, 50 Cent, Drake proves that he can give you two sides of himself and his art: the mixtape and the album, and as Black Sheep say, the choice is yours.

Drake has dominated the Hip Hop conversation for the last year. The Toronto-born emcee who acknowledges both Lil Wayne and Slum Village as leading influences polarizes fans with every verse, every interview and every punchline. Since Drake released his So Far Gone mixtape early last year (before scanning over 400,000 units to date in retail), he’s been the talk of the times. Delivering an official debut in  Thank Me Later , a confident (if not cocky) title that asserts Drake's awareness that he's changing the game. Poised to follow up his acclaimed tape and create a first round classic like his heroes Nas and Jay-Z did before him, he unfortunately falls short on both counts.

That’s not to say the album doesn’t have positive qualities, but even those highlights can be dimmed. His earnest bars deserve some applause, especially when he shares tidbits about his family (“I heard they just moved my grandmother to a nursing home / And I be actin’ like I don’t know how to work a phone / But hit redial, you’ll see that I just called / Some chick I met at the mall that I barely know at all”). All of this comes before talking about abortion and infidelity. While honesty is refreshing, Drake still shifts to being cold and impersonal, when even the always-reserved Jay-Z was capable of "Regrets" on his own debut. Unlike other artists that share dire struggles for a personal connection with a listener, many of Drake gripes don’t seem to resonate as strongly as, say, Eminem discussing Munchausen Syndrome or Notorious B.I.G.'s passionate outcry that his stress comes from his mother’s breast cancer. It might seem unfair to judge a new comer against all-time greats. Then again, when an artist crowns himself the “greatest ever” to start the conversation, it’s difficult not to hold his work accountable to higher standards. In that respect, this album disappoints with no outstanding technical skills or word wizardry, unless one counts those pesky punchlines as ill (“I could teach you how to speak my language, Rosetta Stone”).

Drake does succeed in pulling out all the stops, and making his proper debut feel as big as any we've seen since The College Dropout. Top tier guests like Jay-Z, Lil Wayne, T.I., and Alicia Keys are on-hand to cosign Drake's arrival, all of whom experiment with the song-making and style that the host has brought to Rap in the last year. Fans may also be excited by the production from big name producers Kanye West (“Show Me a Good Time” and “Find Your Love” ), Boi-1da (“Up All Night” , “Over” and “Miss Me” ), Swizz Beatz (“Fancy” ) and Timbaland (“Thank Me Now”). But the album also loses its luster with some of the slower-paced material and big names don’t always translate to worthwhile collaborations, such as the Jeezy-assisted, "Unforgettable" and the aforementioned "Fancy."

On "Light Up" Drake could be referring to Thank Me Later when he declares he “wrote it for your girlfriends.” As the artist admits, this album was made with a specific purpose, and one Drake shares with many of Rap's platinum stars of today: commerce before art. However, the album will keep some of his So Far Gone fan base pleased with the brief revelations and the cosigns. Others may fault the young star, perhaps due to lyrical struggles, vocal troubles or a lack of cohesion and concept. Like a heavily co-signed star from the top of the decade, 50 Cent, Drake proves that he can give you two sides of himself and his art: the mixtape and the album, and as Black Sheep say, the choice is yours.

are you trying to say that 50 Cent's GRODT was wack in those last 2 sentences...

  • MusicFan

5/5 I love this album. Slow at times but it gets the job done.

  • Young

Thank Me Later is a rare drop of water in a desert of whack rappers.

  • Daud Aron Ahmad Cohen

I would listen to it - for 1 week, and dispose it.

  • Brando

great album. the hate isnt warranted at all.

  • Shame

I woulda given it a 3, nothing to amazing, but shit it kept me entertained, every rapper has his purpose

  • David Kenneth Zacheius Brown

fuck the haterz, drake is the future of hip hop, wayne seen it, and the grammy's obviously seen it too... 5

  • KirK-05685

A classic. Stop sweating your Black Moon/Jeru albums. That era is over.

  • ps

really bad Young money child suck as hell 1/5 beats are BAD flow tottaly mist point

  • Kat Star

I almost never post hater comments as I prefer to voice my support for hip-hop. But Drake is the most boring emcee ever to get this popular. His flow is lazy and tedious. He simply talks -- drones, really -- over beats in a nasal monotone. And his lyrics are not nearly clever enough to get away with sounding so lame. I hate that he's all over the radio right now. I can't believe so many people are liking this.

  • Banks

dont compare this wack shit to anything 50 put out from 02-06

  • Eminemfan

it was just too overrated. Didn't show any talent he had and he could have done better. I hate young money.

  • The One

Not the best album of all time but definitely NOT the worst. (he did manage to provide Jay an opportunity to be reflective of his own career, regrets, and his lost relationship with Dame and all of the street cats he left behind after "The Roc-a-fella split") ........"and since no good deed goes unpunished/ Im not as cool wit niggas as I once was/ I was once was,..cool as the fonze was,/ But these bright lights will turn you into a monsta!/ Sorry mama I promised IT WOULDN'T CHANGE ME / but I would have went insane had I remained the SAME ME/ Fuck niggaz,...bitches too/ ALL I GOT IS THIS MONEY...AND THIS WILL DO! " .......(Jay-Z's "Light up" verse) .......those few bars were incredibly revealing from Jay due to his own life experiences. Therefore,... I think Drake needs to LIVE LIFE and experience more so he can begin to deliver the type of sentiment that Jay expressed in those few lines for a whole Drake album. He needs growth. He is still crazy young and inexperienced in many areas of his life and it is reflected in this album. Once he lives through the more complex and difficult realities of life......We will begin to hear a Drake that the majority of the world (would then) be able to more relate to.

  • J.Cole is BETTER!

    J. Cole is a thousand times better this album was so so everything is good but the problem is when ur posterize as the next great thing doing everything good and nothing great calls for a real big reality check, stop hyping Drake, J. Cole is wayyyyyy Better believe me on this.

  • E

Not bad, woulda preferred more rappin than the rnb drake but overall not.

  • Chupps

There was just too much hype surrounding him and ultimately what this album has shown is that he was heavily overrated. He came out with a classic mixtape but it's easy to impress on your first time, when nobody knows you. The album should have been used to prove that he deserves the hype but it lacked so much. I can only rate this 2/5 as i was bored throughout most of the album and really only enjoyed two or three tracks. My advise would be to not sleep on drake, he could surprise us, but don't pay too much attention because he isn't changing the game.

  • Tdotfromdabronx

Wow yall hate hard huh the album was good to me I cant complain I liked most of it what were yall listening too smh...

  • Rozay!!

I like Drizzy but he is getting carried away with this harmonizing. What happened to that way he rapped when he made Uptown with Bun B? I wouldnt go so far as to say hes overrated, but as much to say he doesnt know how to put an album together. None of the songs on TML are correlated. Ya Digg?

  • Jaylou

I think this album is good...but not good hip hop! Drake is doing more singing than rapping and when he is rapping his punchlines and his delivery is so boring to the point where u really remember the hooks. The hooks are decent and the beats are good to but I really think this album shouldnt be considered a "rap" album

  • B1GP1MP1N

    Drake = Overrated

  • Richard Chemistry

mehhh this album makes me go back to listening to wu tang classic joints when rappers had to be real and original and you could not get away with releasing mediocre and unoriginal shit....wu tang clan forever

  • TELL THE WORLD MY NAME

TERRIBLE ALBUM. THERE'S NOT REALLY ANYTHING GOOD I CAN SAY ABOUT IT BESIDES SOME OF THE BEATS, WHICH ALSO GET PRETTY BORING. ALOT OF PEOPLE ARE GONNA LOOK BACK @ THIS ALBUM 2 YEARS LATER & REGRET HYPING IT UP JUST LIKE THAT OTHER WEEDPLATE CARTER 3.

  • Aswaran

Yo this album was pretty good. Everyone keeps saying it's a disappointment compared to So Far Gone. I really liked so far gone, but every track produced by 40 or on the so far gone EP lead me to believe that Thank me later would be similar to those tracks, and it is is. I don't see why people thought it would be different. His mixtape tracks are mixtape tracks, they don't really represent Drake's own style. I hate to break it to you, but Drake displayed that he would be a more R&Bish type artist singing to the ladies.

  • COOPGANG

Aight... Yall hardcore hip-hop lovers must face that Gansta rap is basically dead!! That said.... this album as a hip-pop joint is great!!! this is Drake not 2Pac Biggie Jim Jones Big Pun....etc.. rap has changed!!! 4 better or worse!?! As a pop album great...as a Rap album...EHHHH! I see potential!?!

  • Iconic215

Bought the album to support Drizzy cause of all that great free music he was giving out before. But I just noticed listing to this album I hate when he sings, His R&B on this album is below par to say the best and half the album is R&B, O and drake Can we get a different topic to rap about, We already know you made it to superstardum. Iconic is that next rapper, Producers/DJ's That want to network Email Me:BAEZUSMC022309@gmail.com

  • mavrik

ITS A FEW CUTS ON HERE HE NEED TO SWITCH HIS TOPICS BUT ITS AN ALRIGHT CD TO PLAY IF U WITH A GIRL OTHER THEN THAT ITS AND R AND B CD

  • Avengerz23

The only tracks I regret listening to are Karaoke and CeCe Interlude because the auto-tune singing should be left to T-pain.....Other than that the album is good.....It just didn't show that hunger he showed before he made it....More of cocky side but who can blame him....I mean So Far Gone is what made most of us love him....Then I guess thats when he turned cocky on us......

    • 805till-i-die

damn couldnt agrree more. drake does real music. he tells stories and events in his life through his craft and that is a true artist.

  • box

juvi "thanked" himself to his album cover yell www.myspace.com/panhandoelrcorp

  • THE REAL#1STAN

GOOGOO24 is a flammin faggot, he takes bananas in his ass

  • blusty

mann boi 1da' s a good producer and dis the best REALEST album i heard wit meaning so far it has a GRAND MASTER FLASH VIBE!

  • DEADCELL

Never crown a nigga before he has an album out. This is a major setback for young money camp. nikki's album will be more garbage than this, but at least she'll look fine as hell flopping. I respect all there hustle's however this album is garbage. he will only sale more records because of hype, and not quality music. Drake; go back to the shit that was making you a star, or your music career will be over sooner than later. This is not hate, however consructive criticism.

  • jhuntdaprodigy

*Sigh* This is what happens when an album is vastly over-hyped, if it's anything short of classic, people want to coin it as a complete disappointment and failure. It actually is a pretty good album, definitely not as memorable as So Far Gone, because he definitely tried to make this album more commercial, and he over-weighed it with too many guest features. My hope, is his second album, he will focus more on making art, like he did with SFG instead, and keep the guest features down to 2 or 3, 4 at the most.

  • Nico 3

While I thought some of the songs were too slow, the production was still good. If anything, it's something different. Not for everyone's taste, but not a waste of time either.

  • ChessRapNucca

A good album and a bad review again http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EWAmVdWRANM

  • mannyman55

man i couldnt stand listening to a whole album of him singing to females and rapping .

  • AZMEXICANO

I dont want to thank you Drake. I want to smack you. You and your entourage.

  • AZMEXICANO

This album was the biggest disappointment of the year. Drake has been strong on all of his guest appearances and then he puts out this whack love cd. Whats this guys problem? Better question is what are his boys problem? You know he played it for them and they sat there and bobbed their heads like, ay yo this is dope man. Damn liars. HOW COULD YOU DO THAT TO YOUR FRIEND??!!

  • HallelujahHollaBack

This is trash. Toronto does not support this shit! DRAKE, you a fucking SNITCH AND YOU KNOW IT. I wish death upon you and your family. Real Talk.

  • loldrake

Someone said this is better than Illmatic. That's a joke my friend. This is down on the same level as Soulja Boy as far as quality.

  • WhatIsThis

This is one of the worst things I have ever heard. "Find Your Love" may be one of the worst, most annoying songs I have ever heard in my life. It's sad that this gets the spotlight in the media when there's stuff like Atmosphere, Panacea, and Mos Def out there. Drake is a disgrace to music. This isn't me just "hating," this is a fact. If you like this album, you don't listen to enough hip hop.

  • BetterMadeChips

The album grows on you in my opinion and I could use less singing, but it will make him a boatload of money with the young ladies. Not really my type of music but I can respect it.

  • Johnnnybay

Mannn i expected soo much more from Drake than this. After hearing his mixtapes, i really thought he had potential to be a pretty insightful rapper. This album fucked that up for me. He's a pop rapper now, it's all about the GIRLS and the money, this definitely is not a good hip hop album. I mean he reflects on how fame's changing him and all and how he's not used to it which is cool, but to talk about it as your one serious theme for an entire album and expecting to be acclaimed is an extremely hard task. But he couldn't have done it with all the talk about gettin girls and fallin in love with them and money, that just fucked everything up. MAn this guy is just as cliche as most rappers out today, he's not doing anything special. He started off with hip hop mixtapes, and everyone was expecting another insightful one, and now he's almost singing throughout half of his debut album. Like i don't mind the singing, but he definetly shouldn't classify himself as a hip hop artist if this is what he's gonna be putting out. The guy had a lot of room to grow, and definetly had a shot at being a pretty decent rapper if he talked about more intrapersonal and serious topics. I guess when the fame got to him, he became a shit rapper, or a singer, hope he just doesn't become like akon. that'd make toronto look like shit.

    • Johnnnybay

but yahh production was pretty kickass, just hope drake can work on lyricism, topic choices, and didn't rely so much on singing. otherwise he should just start calling himself an r&b rapper or something.

  • thatdude2

Not really a hip hop album imo. a good album non the less. I honestly still prefer So Far Gone And Comeback Sessions to this. but it's a descent effort. the production is probably the best of the year. Boi-1da did an amazing job on the production side.

  • jakek6

awesome album. one of my favorites

  • Gods_Son23

I like this more than I thought I would, as I had trouble enjoying Drakes voice before this album. Some good production and guest verses help me feel this one.

  • Jonthan

This is wat i expected from drake hes no eminem or nas or jay z he is a punch line rapper that sings from hearin so far gone u sould already kno wat his album gona b lik but i think drake could be better because songs like say u will remix shows me he got more

  • marvin

the shit plan out the shit

  • HOODZRUS

this album is a classic. everyone should get this album now.

  • bigdave55

not worth buying . this album sounds like garbage . not 1 song standsout

    • Deucie

The album wasnt the best collection of music, but you hating right now, the album was easily a 3.5 - 4

  • C-Mo Money

Drake has a good ear for melodies however his ability just cant make it work. His flow on every song sounds damn near th same and gets repetitive but he does kno quality music and his lyricism aint half bad ( albeit not Eminem lol)

  • Riptide

wow...didn't know so many people hated this album. personally i loved it, he delivered what i expected and more. the beats were brilliant too...idk why ppl hate them. Just because the style is different doesn't make it horrible. Don't forget that Kanye, Swizzy and Timbo contributed some amazing beats. and the features did pretty well. My opinion though. Peace.

    • Wafflez

I like how you only mentioned how his "beats" are great and nothing more.... because we all know that everything he says is pure garbage. And I also like how this album was everything you had expected....because I'm sure you really must have some low expectations. Seriously though....do you really think that rap is just beats?

  • Riptide

wow...didn't know so many people hated this album. personally i loved it, he delivered what i expected and more. the beats were brilliant too...idk why ppl hate them. • SE7ENsTravels

I've been a Drake fan since i was deployed overseas. I was able to download So Far Gone and listen to that a lot. I thought TML wasn't as good as SFG, but its still a really good album. there are a couple misses like too many features and the Sade-esque Karaoke . But I'm also an R&B fan so it might be for everyone. But still a dope album overall.

  • jhood91

i really enjoyed this album... no its not So Far Gone but it brought me back to that time when it dropped... i have been a drake fan since like 07 so for him to finally have a album drop i was pleased... to be honest i set low expectations for the album because i thought Young Money was gonna be all over it and it was gonna be SHIT but in fact was the opposite and sounded more like So Far Gone and more hip hop than i expected... kudos to Drake

  • kiaba360

I didn't really enjoy Drake's album (it doesn't have longevity IMO), deleted it off my hard drive already lol. guess it's because I like Gangsta Rap more than R&B. But, I think Drake achieved what he wanted, which was to make an album that was a reflection of himself. Nothing was impressive about the album, but it was good. No, it didn't compare with Ready To Die or Illmatic, but that's because Drake doesn't fall into their category. This is an album for Pop and R&B lovers. Lookin at the track listing, there was 6 songs I really liked, everything else was ehh. But 6 outta 14 ain't bad for an average listener. Regardless, he'll sell well, and it'll have platinum status before the year is over. MAYBE lol

  • EdSole

Lyrically sound, but did not give me the wow factor, production was monotone and very similar through out. 1 or 2 tracks can be deemed as good and thats about it...

  • just be real

not someone who post on anything but there is pure hate in the blood of some. the only song i don't like is fancy and I'm giving it a 5 to balance out the hate. alot of people catch feelings in regards to drake the person but how can you deny his music is quality, at the very least appreciate that he is an artist and an artist in the true sense of the word.

Album of the year, drake gonna win big at the grammys

  • Classc dds

This album is a classic, way better than recovery.

  • C.Money

Fuck, hiphopdx on some wack shit. Two and a half stars? Kay come on. I know it's not as good as the So Far Gone mixtape, but please. They're hating for no reason. This is retarded. If it was all that bad, it wouldn't have almost gone gold in the first week. But, I must admit I don't care for Fancy... Ahaha. :) Idiots. I'm really starting to dislike this site. HOTNEWHIPHOP FOR LIFE.

  • NYC-LA-T.Dot

  • Buckley

Man you hating dudes need to get a fuckin life, it seems like every negative comment on here is because an artist doesnt sound like your favourite artist...ppl saying hip hop aint what it use to be, ofcourse it aint son times change its like saying jordans arent what they use to be dj's arent what they use to be coz they now use cd's, if yall mother fucker are only into your classic stuff then thats sound but dont come on ere moaning how you thought this was wack stay with your old school!!! Drake is an ill emcee man period, he raps about and has allways rapped about where he is in life at that moment and how previous experiences in life affect his decisions today! i dont know what you expect from dude, he aint gangster, he was raised well successfull as a kid with his acting and has a real talent with this Hip hop AND rnb thing. This is what you seem to forget...dude game out first and foremost and expressed his interest in rnb his dad is a soulful musician and the way he has combined this together is a fucking masterpiece as far as ppl who are into both genre are concerned!!!! Too say this sounds like 808 and heartbreaks as well dudes ears must of fell off time ago...nothing like 808's!! The guy who does these review seems to try and place every album he review in the same fucking category, its like when ppl compare b.ig to pac...dont do it...two totally different aspects of rappers!! If ya gunna start comparing then think about shit first. Surely you would have to compare b.i.g to big l, rakim to kool g rap, tupac to dre, drake to kanye. its logical thinking every artist is totally different, its like these ganbanging dudes or hardcore dudes coming on here hating on drake...dude he doesnt rap about anything you can relate to coz he has never lived his life like you!!! Oh ye...im white, middle class, not a gangster but i like a lot of different hip hop artists and other genres... i hate ppl who stick to one genre, speaks for there personality str8 up!! UK kid

    • Buckley

Fair enuf lad... im just tryna say that its never gunna be seen as a classic debut in the hiphop world and he probably know that, he knows he got 12 yr old girls inging his songs. "the next big thing" is the hype that any artist with well listened to mixtapes is gunna have anging on him... i just dont get how ppl ever thought this was gunna be an epic HIP HOP album, i mean i dont really like thank me later, or cece's int and am not a fan of find your love but as a fan of both hip hop and rnb equally i feel the rest of the tracks are on point, c'mon shut it down is a fucking genius track as far as rnb is concerned!! But one point i truly get from you mate is he doesnt take you on that journey. I was really dissapointed that there wasnt a real club banger on there coz i love a good club track n an album!!! Just another point to these dudes saying guys garbage because of the fans he gets..... being from uk i only got into my hip hop at 12/13 and the person who introduced me to my first three albums was this fine girl on vacation she was 15. The albums were DMX its dark n hell is hot, Tupac All eyes on me n Biggie Ready to die does this mean they were garbage fuck i dont know where these guys come up with comments and tbh those albums still get a very very high play count on all my devices. I do feel you tho THOROBRED

    • thorobred

I feel your point....But u gotta admit compared to all the other Artists hyped & unhyped (who just snatched the crown) being billed as "the next BIG thing" Thank me LAter is Mediocre at best as far as Debuts go..... There's nothing groundbreaking about it. There isn't even much for the audience to connect to by way of theme or subject matter....& definitely not by way of production. Drake takes us nowhere on his melodical journey...It does have a good sound & I think it's a pretty good listen. But as far as classic debuts go....It's pretty garbage. I wasn't wow'ed on any of his tracks...I just hope John Wall doesn't dissapoint as much during his rookie season.

  • Laffyette

This was a let down. He just talks about HATER the entire time and how he made it, I get it, I got that on all the mixtapes and Young Money, I get it, you made it. This album was inconsistent and just boring.

  • jamezy

man drake, look what youve done, weezys been gone for a couple months and your musics getting fucked up. like, the album is not reaally shitty, but very disappointing cause i know im not the only one that expected way more from you.

  • Twinblades

To many cock suckers in hear hatin on drake jezz people if you hate the nigga that much go throw on Recovery and Jack off to Em bitchin about the same shit he always yaps about!! Smh all the faggits on here I'm startin to think y'all gay for Em or somethin.

  • Hatersfallback

The beats on the album sound like 808s and Heatbreak reject beats the Kanye threw in the trash. This album is that trash.

  • Just Me

He made a good, catchy albumn.. I can sit there and listen to the albumn from track one to the end.. Thank me Now and Show me a Good Time are my personal favorites.. you all an hate if you want but my nigga Drizzy sold hella for his whole albumn basically being leaked..

  • DR Jam

another 808's, can't wait for Kanye to send a new/different trend... sing sing sing...

  • flogod730

im not a fan of drake but i did give him shot and i knew he would blow it so out of all the new jacks in the game cudi is the only one to make a great album but that just how i feel

Drake has alot of haters. I didn't think the album was alllll that. but I do enjoy it though. Everybody who's saying that he sucks and it was garbage however, y'all have to be more open-minded. Realize Drake is not trying to be like GZA and spit some underground hip-hop shit. Thats not him. You shouldnt expect that when listening to Drake. He does what he does, and he does it well, point blank period.

not a Drake Fan by any means, but he gets "points", even though he bit a line, it's was Ghostface's "Strawberry"... "5 and a half in boys, ass is off the hook, high school pussy, heard you got the best nookie".. he surprised me with that on "Fancy".. I agree wholeheartedly with SutterKane | Jun 19, 2010 04:19 PM Damn man, ya'll beatin this album to death over here I aint like it either but jesus.........Drake is kinda like the new Nelly to me, I never liked his shit either but I'm not bothered by it, like I wont buy a drake CD but I wont necessarily change the channel if it comes on the radio.........Drake being as hyped as he is bothers me less then most because at least he's not fuckin stupid, like a Gucci Mane or most of his labelmates.........Drake is one of the few rappers on the radio these days that comes off like he knows how to read, thats gotta get him a lil bit of a pass........Just my opinion on it and yung_Bleeeezy | Jun 19, 2010 07:19 ive listened to this album and i get wat the "haters" are saying about it, but in my opinion id have to giv this album the same rating as eminems which is a 3/5. when i lisen to recovery i like the lyrics, cus eminems lyrics are da shit but when i lisen to TML its all about enjoyin it

Drake is better than J.Cole. J.No isnt going to sale shit and you know it.Jay-Z is my nigga all day,and its Roc Nation, but Roc Nation has no credible artist who will sell records and become legends.Lil Kim,Rita Ora who the hell are they. Never thought id say this but its Young Money right now that they got Cory Gunz to.

  • Ghgggggjjij

    Toronto we made it !!!!!!!!!!

  • Twinblades

If we could do half rateings then I would give this a 4.5 but since I can't do that it gets a five from me. To be honust with you guys I didn't realy like so far gone I thought it was boring and cliche. I fell like TML is a lot more polished then SFG and sounds better over all. I'm not saying this album is a classic but it's better than all the other bullshit that's out right now. Also is it just me or dose drake kinda rap like jay-z on thank me now? It's just his flow sounds like something I would hear from jigga.

  • Just Me

On some real shit, you all need to stop hatin on dude. He makes good music. So what if he sings in his music, ya'll need to stop being upset that you aint got the money that he does. No matter if he sings or raps on a song, he is steady making money. He is the future of hip hop regardless if any of you like it or not.. And his albumn aint that bad, i was actually surprised.. and if you dont like dude or his music, then dont listen to it, simple as that.. Why come listen to his shit, if you listening you must think dude is talented, or you wouldnt even come listen.. See i think i know why u all hatin on Drizzy... cause all yo bitches like dude.. haha stop hatin

right!^^^ on sum real shit just you, u needa jump off dis boys dick dis is an album review page me and id like to think(and u have to assume until u have actual proof dat shows otherwise) listened to the album and are giving our opinion and review of the album dont get mad cuz almost everybody says its wack, if dats wut ur really into jus find some actual good rappers to dick ride instead

    • A-BayRay

Don't be a dick ryder, his mix tape was way better but don't assume he shits gold bricks cause of it.

  • J1DABOSS

PEOPLE HATIN THIS MAN BECAUSE THEY FEEL HE DIDN'T HAVE A STRUGGLE TO GET WHERE HE IS! YOU HEAR OTHER RAPPERS SPEAK OF HOW HARD IT WAS TO BREAK INTO THIS BUSINESS. IT WASN'T THAT HARD FOR DRAKE BECAUSE OF HIS BACKGROUND, AND CONNECTIONS HE HAD! ME BEING AN ARTIST I CAN APPRECIATE HIS MUSIC. HE HAS THE RIGHT BEATS, AND THE DELIVERY TO COMPLIMENT THE BEAT. SO WHAT THE BROTHER DIDN'T COME FROM THE BRONX, OR FROM DA MAGNOLIA PROJECTS IN NEW ORLEANS. YOU CAN'T DENY THE FACT THAT HE IS A TALENTED WRITER AND I WISH HIM ALL THE SUCCESS IN THE WORLD! EVERYONE IS ENTITLED TO THEIR OWN OPINIONS, BUT TO SAY HE SUCKS IS JUST PURE HATERATION!

    • Mylie

the album sucks ass because all he talks about its haters, girls love him, success and money! no insight on who he is or deep shit on the album at all. he played himself. the album is SHALLOW bitch!

  • bigmack88

weak album nothing special just alot of girl talk

  • vin

Hiphopdx and Andres Vasquez are hating! How many times have you heard TML? Albums dont sound that great 3-5 times.. After that they grow on you, then you give a review! Wow....This review is a diss-appointment not TML!

    • bktothefullest

I think VIN was trying to say that the album sounds different (bar structure, singing, the chorus, low key beats) but its still good music. It just takes you a few times to listen of the entire album to appreciate his style of music and moreso the album!...that is why is called "thank me later"..... (ex. his single "over" was a different sound after hearing it first but the more you hear the song...you might have liked it)

    • boss89

word i agree wit TQ... all great even good albums catch ur attention from the get. if i have to listen to an album 3-5 times in order to like it than it didnt do its job... i should be able to pop it in and bumb and vibe to it. so you just gave a perfect reason why drakes album ISN'T that good lmao

    • TQ

If it has to grow on you than it must not be that great jus sayin

  • C-Arson

the only songs I like are- up all night, fancy, light up, and maybe unforgettable.

  • Thank him now

I was expecting this kind of a review from DX, but everybody has their own opinion so I won't get on them about that. I actually think this album was great, a good way for Drake to start his career. However, the dude kinda disappointed in his lyrical delivery especially since his delivery on his last two mixtapes had been outstanding to me, but this album still brought that same raw honesty that I was digging in So Far Gone and Comeback Season. A lot of old heads probably don't like rappers putting all their vulnerabilities on a track and unleashing their emotions onto the public but I personally think its refreshing. The guy doesn't claim to be something he's not, and he puts on a track anything that he is feeling at the time. However, I really think the dude needs to do some soul searching in an attempt to expand his subject matter. He ain't no J Cole, that's for sure. The abundance of singing is something that I completely dig about Drake and was what I embraced with open arms on this record. Dude can sing, period. His ability to put together hooks and intertwine singing with his rapping is something that takes talent to do, no matter how much you want to deny it. He makes HITS. I was digging the few R&B tracks on this joint (although Find Your Love took some getting used to) and that cut with The-Dream is ill. Something to play when I'm kicking back with my girl. Beats were knocking for DAYS. Drake has something special in his engineer, 40. His beat selection for this album was pretty much perfect to me. This album is the shit to me. I got it on repeat it in the car with the case right next to my Distant Relatives and Reflection Eternal albums and the CD hasn't been back in the case since I bought it. Not a classic hip-hop album by ANY means but it's something that I can enjoy without skipping tracks which is unusual for me. Solid Album, 4/5 stars. The only reason why I gave it 5 stars above is because the aggregated ratings are ridiculously low. Damn, do people really dislike this album that much? Who would you rather have at the top of the charts, Drake or Soulja Boy? That's what I thought.

  • moonman

Album was trash! You have bias fans and you have true hiphop fans such as myself. For the people out there who say this is a good album or better yet a decent album, they don't know what quality hiphop is. Keep it real, album is gabage.

  • Drake Dilla

Peep the "real" Drake fam!, if u love slum village, dilla....hot shit....http://www.myspace.com//drakeone

  • Mattweezy

Its a debut album, its not like he's lil Wayne or Jay-z, So yall stop complainin....its good, shoulda been better, but its good. It has bad album track order, but its not too bad

    • Atothe

how did nas and jay-z become who they are, great debut albums. the hype was unjustified maybes its not his fault but he didn't meet the expectations. You're on the clock Drake.

  • John Doe

I feel like the album didn't live up to the hype, but the music he did was different from the usual mainstream music out today. He didn't rap about trappin, or did a corny dance move, he just rapped about himself. And whether or not you feel or can relate to what he said, it doesn't matter because at least he's being true to himself and making music he feels is good, and that's "realer" than most other hip-hop out today. This is coming from a dude that still knows "I Ain't No Joke" from Rakim off by heart lool. What the fuck is real hiphop anyway? since when could music be fake? People should at least notify a nigga when shit like this gets declared.

  • Young Statement !

In about 5 years if hip hop goes downhill this might be a classic Lmao !

  • ChrisPoi187

i've listened to the album at least 3 times.it's good but nothing great though.i like miss me,light up and over.i expected more with all this buzz.

  • yung_Bleeeezy

ive listened to this album and i get wat the "haters" are saying about it, but in my opinion id have to giv this album the same rating as eminems which is a 3/5. when i lisen to recovery i like the lyrics, cus eminems lyrics are da shit but when i lisen to TML its all about enjoyin it, and i really enjoy it. Drakes no em, no nas, not even jay, hes just drizzy whos lyrics and beats are good enough to enjoy and lisen to over again which i wont wiv recovery cus not all the songs are enjoyable but are strong lyrically. TML aint as good as So far gone but i expected that nd i aint dissapointed

  • Cappachino

He sounds like a Lil Wayne copy.

    • YoungTopGun

more like thats his own style and lil gay i mean wayne copies drake. i hate both them niggas but i hate wayne the most, he dont even write his own lyrics.

    • buckeyewu

You're right. It's amazing how it's ok to bite other MC's styles these days. This copycat style would have never passed in the 80s or 90s.

  • Richard Chemistry

Thank Me Later has been growing on me a lot actually....."Miss Me", Unforgettable", "Karaoke", and "The Resistance" have been really catching on and are just a few of the songs that keep me going back to the album. I predict this album will be similar to 808s & Heartbreak in that it initially received a lot of backlash upon it's release but in time came to be praised by critics.

  • Shaolinstyle

this shit sucks. Drake's over rated

  • westpac08

I WISH I COULD GIVE IT A 2.5 SO IM GIVIN IT A 2 CUZ FOR ITS HYPE THIS WASNT ANYTHING WHAT I EXPECTED HIS MIXTAPES AND EP'S WHERE BETTER THAN THIS HONESTLY IF HE LEFT YOUNG MONEY AND WENT TO DEF JAM AND GOT KANYE TO PRODUCE THE WHOLE ALBUM AND WORKED WITH BETTER RAPPERS THAN WAYNE LIKE NAS, BIG BOI JUELZ HE CAN WORK W/ SOME DOPE SINGERS FOR HIM TOO FOR HOOKS (NEYO, RIHANNA & JLO) BUT THAT WONT HAPPEN SO..... 2/5

  • This album is a shitty blowjob excuse for music

15 year old girls = this is hot 4+ anyone else = HOT TRASH which one are you?

  • Anzio

His album is spectacularly unimpressive. It's not bad, but it's not good either. I think it's mostly because everyone has anointed this kid as the next "great" thing, it's almost as if everything he puts out needs to be fire. And it's just not there. Oh and just because you don't like or support his music doesn't make you a hater. And it's stupid to think so...everyone has an opinion of everything and you aren't automatically a "hater" just because don't like someone. My prediction...Drake is the next LL Cool J. talented with a very strong female base, and constantly trying to be "hard" to pull the male demographic.

  • biggrease187

One of the most disappointing debuts since Canibus!!! Drake sounds like a whiny fuckin' teenager looking for love. The problem is Drake has no pain or real issues to deal with. I guess when you grow up rich you're biggest problem is worrying about what happened to your high school jump off. This album sucks!!!!

    • Soulful Beats

Will Smith grew up rich too but at least he was being himself. Drake was dope when he dropped his 1st mixtape, but this new shit is teeny bopper music. I see where you coming from though, with his new shit, he makes himself seem like he's been through so much pain when really he's just throwing out punchline and metaphors. That Cold Winter joint he dropped is better than all his new shit imo. That Room For Improvement is who Drake really is, Thank Me Later is who he thinks people want him to be.

    • yeezy

Agreed, man. All he can really talk about at this stage is the girls he been chasin' , being played, or the dealing of fame and success. He didn't come from the streets like a DMX or Pac-he was born wit a silver spoon in his mouth, so he don't know what it's like to come from nuthin' and to have nuthin.'

As a real hip hop fan and musician, I checked this album out for a coupla reasons: one, that I'd been really diggin' the stuff off of Drake's previous mixtapes, and two, to see what the fuck all the hype was about. This CD gets two stars in my book. It's like, Drake had put all his hottest shit out there BEFORE his label debut! He should have saved most of that shit for his debut-it would have had a bigger impact. I'll see what the next CD is like to decide if he is either all hype or just getting started. All I can say is...i'm glad I did not "buy" this...hint hint

    • d smith

yeah i agree. he had some hot joints like light up with jay z fireworks wit alicia keys but honestly u have to know how to keep joints to urself from time to time. songs like i want this forever and fear, sooner than later, lust for life, would have all took this album to the next level but he passed them off. he didnt do a bad job on his album it was pretty good to be honest but honestly it could have been better. he get at least 3.5 stars for it. i applaud his effort though.

  • Richard Chemistry

Damn, unnderground rappers must be getting hype as if Rome has fallen and the world is up for grabs seeing how many of y'all think Drake has fell off....at least this adds some excitement to the hip hop game.

    • Indiemuzik

Nah dude, Drake may have put out a crappy album, but as long as monied interests control public discourse in entertainment he'll be kept relevant for a few years just like Ja Rule was. MTV and z100 are like Fox News. They're medium sized outlets that constatnly spew idiotic opinions until eventually larger media outlets stop ignoring them and start giving them credibility. Fox News saying Obama is a fascist=MTV saying Drake is the GOAT

  • Bonkeira

TCK22, I appologise if i hurt your feelings, i understand that little girls have their crushes on certain celebs and i'm sorry for that. My little sister loves justin bieber and i admit that i should've thought about that before i started cussin off drake. I promise from now on when i talk about fake mother fuckers, im sorry, FAKE DUDES, who call themselves the greatest ever, i will remember that there's kids in the room, and that children can't stand haters. I give you 5 Xs for honesty, and honesty takes alot of courage, have fun at chucky chease

  • COMPANY

IM A REAL BIG DRAKE FAN. NEVER SAW HIM IN DEGRASSI BUT BEEN FOLLOWIN HIS MUSIC SINCE "ROOM 4 IMPOROVEMENT" & IMA ADMIT, THIS ALBUM IS WACK. DISAPPOINTED. I ONLY LIKED ABOUT 4 TRACKS, TOPS. SORRY DRAKE, BUT B.O.B'S ALBUM WAS WAAAAAYYYYY BETTER. BOTH IN QUALITY & MUSICALLY...EITHER WAY, UR STILL GOING PLATINUM THO. WATCH

  • Soulful Beats

Call me a hater if you want, but none of his Thank Me Later album is fucking with his Room For Improvement mixtape, that shit was real hip hop and who he wanted to be, Young Money got him all fucked up. I just got finished listening to that shit and that joint is way better than this Young Money bullshit. Hope Drake does a 360 and gets back to his roots.

  • dy2330

Draje is a talented young entertainer he has too much expectaitions though trying to be the best in the entertainment bizz. he wants to rap but yet he wants to sing. yea rapping and singing go together but its hard for the artist to focus on both if he wants to be the best. with that said this is a great album if you like pop music yea there are a few good rap songs but he took the pop route. maybe if it was the glory days of hiphop like when there was afrikka bambatta and sugarhill gang this would be a gold album. but on the other hand it could be in the making of a classic and this album is his stepping stone.

The guy is making music that he likes. Lyrics make me feel like i noe the doode forreal. DOPE BEATS.

  • Richard Chemistry

Yeah I agree that Drake set the bar ridiculously high...I mean his more recent verses & hooks on We Are Young Money and Priceless were phenomenal, not to forget all the other features he did like "Say Something" w/ Timbaland and "Make it Go" w/ Belly...should have saved more of that for this album, but you gotta suspect that wasn't the style he was going for on this album. Nonetheless, it's a good album but not timeless classic like many expected. I ain't complaining, I like Thank Me Later. I trust that Kanye will live up to expectations this year with Good Ass Job b/c he has never NOT made a classic.

  • BAWSE2ULOOKOUTS

2much signing on da damn album wit dat bein said expect drizzy to dew anywere btween 500k-plat easy!!! YMCMB=MONOPOLY

  • Taylor LOve

it was a good album but its just not living up to the hype. he and other shouldn't of set the bar so high because if there was no bar set it would of been wow this great but I was left feeling like this is it? this is what we waited for? I mean it was good just not great and epic like thought it would be or led to believe it was going to be.b step your cookies up drake you better than that.

  • shades

love it or hate it its still an obsession.... lmao--- if your going hard to hate him, it makes u sad b/c ur still giving him relevance when u want him to die out and if u love him keep prepping for ya boy- all he said he wanted was an album the fans liked so he could make a second cd and based on this response- pro or against, a second cd is a definite guarantee... so congrats on the first drizzy, and just continue doing you and growing

    • shades

ight you're entitled to your opinion but why sound so angry.... like when u sound this angry you can be characterized as nothing but a hater... n he doesnt give a F**k about haters so.... have your opinion cuz at the end of the day while some may share your sentiments, the one who its aimed at doesnt care and so to go so hard is completely unnecessary...

    • Bonkeira

Its an obsession with sounding gay. This dude is a poser and dogshit like this is why the real mcs don't get any play. He just slapped this piece of shit together just to sell records. There's no originality, skill or credability to anything this pussy spits. Fuck this bitch made rapper. He's an embarassment to Toronto Hiphop

  • YoungVagabond

this album is straight trash. these people wouldn't know good lyrical ability if it kicked them in the face. like c'mon. he is wack and garbage and he is for the teenagers and females that don't pay attention to lyrical ability. plain and simple. people been hearing dudes like soulja boy so much recently they think that anyone with an average flow is the next best rapper alive. give me a break.

  • Kidneo007

I like the cd but i think its the group he is in. young money is all about makin that money which drake has enough of. before he got signed with young money he was makin songs that everyone could bob they're heads to but in a way now he fell off on that. I respect drake alot because he is one of my favorite rappers so far, but it is his first cd so ill cut him some slack but second one he has to bring that fire. my opinion though get off of young money.

  • Mo$o$a

he is just the new will smith of the game.... except it time has changed

  • ABrocks

This review is trash!!!!!! this album is fire! What were u expecting Drake is not a gangsta rapper! This is his kind of music! 2 stars give me a break! i got it and have been bumpin it since so. Whoever wrote this review is def biased.

    • Bonkeira

Ok DYELON, HOT FIRE. This album aint even worth the plastic it took to make it. Are you sure you didnt cop it just to get in some bitches pants?

  • SoloDolo

This review is RIDICKULOUS! It is no album of the decade, nor the strongest hip hop album but cmon... I would never put Drake in my top 10 MCs list but I would put him in the top 10 ARTISTs list. Cuz that is what he is - an artist.

  • THIS IS RAP FOR KIDS

DRAKE IS FOR KIDS....NOT FOR ADULTS...AGE RANGE LISTENING TO THIS IS PROBABLY 12-25

  • fuck gucci/waka/oj

find your love sucks as a song and the video is straight TRBL!!! you aint no dread your from canada!! trying to shoot an ill video ur lookin all brand new in the hood of jamaica gtfo with that bullshit looks faked and forced...some rappers can make ill videos of shit they obviously wouldnt actually be involved in but play it off this shit straight looks WEAK...cant judge the ALBUM tho i havent heard it... i fux with drakes hooks usually but dudes got no lyrical skill and his punchlines r HELLA CORNY

  • Lino

Great album. Top 10 of the year so far. Don't like it? Keep moving.

    • TCK22

    • Bonkeira

Obviously you dont know much about hiphop to even consider this piece of shit worth buying. Who brought u in to hiphop, diddy, master p or was it jermain dupris? Bottom line, drake is just a former child model and actor who got lucky, his shit is so pussy, its not much different than aaron carter, or even bow wow. Sorry homie, real heads know what im talking about

  • Dr. C. Ashley

Cut the kid some lack yall lol .....the album isnt bad....is very "hip-pop" and it better than 90% of the other albums out there right now My starting 5 C Jay Electronica PF J. Cole SF Lupe Fiasco SG Kanye West PG Canibus ( dont sleep on Him...his like Derek Fisher LOL)

I agree with you man, most of the albums that are dropping these days are trash I've been bumping Drake's album. Who Is really rating albums these days? This Is the hottest album to drop since Hov!!!!!!

  • DJ Dizz

The only thing it was REALLY missing was the undeniable smash hit. We need to stop looking for absolutely everything in one artist. Let Drake do Drake. If you're not a fan, keep it movin. At least he comes off honest

  • lynyrdskynyrd

this album deserves way better than 2 stars i sense a bit of bias here...this is a good album lyric wise, production wise, i will say theres a couple songs tht i dont really fuck with (find your love, tht karaoke jaunt) but other than tht its a solid album...too many ppl hate on him for being a "commercial rapper" but he addresses shit like tht on "show me a good time" dude gave a shout out to DILLA and "the resistance" is good shit too...but my favorite has to be "THANK ME NOW" the last track on the album...STOP HATIN' ON DUDE AND GIVE HIM A CHANCE...LISTEN TO HIS SHIT THOROUGHLY BEFORE HATIN' ON HIS MUSIC...

  • evaeva

lyrical hip hop comes from pain, and poor drake just doesn't have the equipment for it. this isn't a class swipe, either: you don't have to have clawed your way through the hell of the ghetto to make good rap (thoroughly middle-class kanye knew he couldn't really claim to have fought his way out of poverty, so he drew us into a personal interior battle with himself that was just as compelling). there are lots of ways to express struggle, but my problem with drake is that he seems to have a sound-bite approach to pain: he's saying all the right words and doesn't seem to mean any of them. drake simply hasn't had much of a life yet, or if he has, he can't or won't communicate it. he's talking about how horrible fame is on his VERY FIRST ALBUM... what does he plan to rap about for the rest of his career?

  • Geno The King of Godz

Just a question...Is this the most commented reveiw ever? Shit almost got 1000 comments in 5 dayz...BTW its an OK album, but a disappointment as far as im concerned. This shit dont even compare 2 So Far Gone.

  • dres

This dude has talent. If you post negative comments that hate on his abilities as an artist or to the album, you are either deaf or musically incapable to judge. You probably have nothing to show for yourself. He's a new artist that will evolve into something special. Thats why brilliant artists like alicia keys, eminem, jay z, lil wayne have supported - to be part of something good.

  • Richard Chemistry

4 X album period....most people are just hating on the dude of course, which Drake predicted would happen anyway.

  • brewingtonf01

this was the worest review ever every song up here is good if not i will no longer look at the reviews here Andres Vasquez fuckign sucks at this period ho,ie u need to get a new job i hope u didnt get paid to write this

  • TheFallenAngel

wow hiphopdx yall r a bunch of faggots, the 90's are fucking over so stop comparing every single album to "real hip hop" when are people gonna stop being pussies and except that rap is different I KNOW EXACTLY WHAT HIP HOPDX WILL RATE AN ALBUM SOLEY BASED ON THE ARTIST. lil wayne/dark young money type artists, 3 at the most new eminem albums 3.5 or 4 (recovery should get a 4 at least) if its an underground artist, either 3.5 or a 5, its never any different... the more succseful an artist is the less hiphopdx will rate it... the less known artists will always recieve at least like a 4 bunch a pussies... OMG NO STORYTELLING, RHYMES ARENT 18 SYLLABLES ITZ TRASH!!!!!1!!1!! THIS ARTIST STYLE IS USED ON EVERYONE OF HIS TRACKZ NOES!!!!!11!!!11!!1! "rea hip hop" fans are wackkkkk you have to listen to everything, not just one set genre in order to make good reviews faggots

    • Bman44854

interesting pt I agree that most wayne jams are always avg 2 the ppl that rate it no matter wat. all underground guys r sick and get top ratings although 90 percent of them never will b really heard. this able is not horrible. its not amazing. theres some jams on him. hes not a ganster and he doesnt claim that. but then all u guys hate on the guys that r like wayne, game, jeezy n the numerous others. if its not jay z tupac nas biggie or ti its all shitty. but those guys appeal 2 every1 and anytjhing they put out is fire right?

    • Bonkeira

So do you keep your Drake cds ontop of your hillary duff cds or under your justin bieber cds? I bet you like the new boys too right? Eh i think i hear your mom callin, i think its bed time pussy boy

    • Dub_Es

you're a dumbass. if dx rated based solely on the artist, rhymefest probably would've gotten higher than a 3.

    • DreamJones

You most be dumb, you sound like one of my students who don't understand real hip hop because the word play is to complex. Hip hop dx is right the albums is OK it's not a classic its not even his best material. The Dizzy effect and so far gone where better across the board. I no why you are upset you like wacka flacka flame and frenchy thats true hip hop.

    • KaseemBanks

      i noticed this too

    • mainebitch

I second KJK...ya'll are faggots. Drake is trash..come up with something worth listening too..not autotune fag shit

    • kjk

ur 12yrs old and 100 yrs gay go get jiggy wit it bitch

  • Hip Hop isnt a diverse art

Eminem is the token a white rapper only because he lived through a struggle and pulled himself out of it like a man, and it we felt that. but other than that its a black sport and to be a great rapper with longevity you gotta give us shit we can relate or we can feel' whether it be street life, college life, or just plain getting by while trying to make it big. Drake provides none of this and really as i guy who's been in a relationaship for 3 yrs and only 21( for two weeks now) its not as stressful as he makes it seem. also its a known fact that rappers that make music just for women dont last long like ever. ex bow wow, romeo, lil zane, llcool j( the buff 35+ year old ll who was trynna swoon our moms and shit), yung berg etc. drake doesnt have anything to offer and as lovers of hip hop we dont owe the guy a second chance niggaz don't feel him and even if girls do he wont last(anybody who has been with a girl know a girl seen a girl smelt a girl or heard of a girl know that they dont really know what they want) And to justify his album by saying that he is targeting woman is completly disrespectful to rap, rap is not for just one sex its for all sexes and Jay,Ye,Lu,Big,Pac,Nas,Pun,Kast made records for the ladies but niggaz loved them too and there regular hits were felt by all people because it delt wit shit we been through. and for niggaz sayin he dont rap about the same shit as other rappers he references cars, clothes and hoes and cash in every song and hoes and bitches and weed the nigga just failed. Niggaz can say ima hater but i like rap that sound good cause rap aint like other genres its my genre i gotta feel it on take one i shouldnt have to listen to a billion times before it gets stuck in my head for me to think its aight nigga its rap that real black music nigga.

  • REXDALE GUNNA

haters stop hating its a classic jus a little to slow it 4 star album

  • Richard Chemistry

I'm pretty satisfeid with this album, I don't understand what more people expected. Drake stated that the album was going to be in the vein of 808s & Heartbreak and that's exactly what we got (that album wasn't recepted well upon it's release either and now it's changed hip hop and is regarded as brilliant by many critics). There aren't tracks that compare with "Best I Ever Had", "Uptown, or "Man of the Year" but track for track I'd say Thank Me Later is more solid than So Far Gone and Comeback Season which is a sign of improvement for Drake. It deserves 4 X though I'll give it 5 X to balance out the unfair rating. I'm really digging the production style on this album...Kanye and Timbaland had some sweet beats. Lyrically, Drake falls short as there aren't sick hooks and punchlines like "Money to Blow", but the atmosphere and production style really do it for me and most of the tracks are good especially "Thank Me Now", "Show Me a Good Time", and "Find Your Love"...thus, 4 X.

    • Richard Chemistry

Interesting, but I think Drake HAS ALREADY changed the game...not in in the form of a proper debut album, but with the So Far Gone mixtape & EP. And he's non stop...he's delivered more hits in one year than most rappers have had in their entire careers.

    • smoothdude2002

(EVERYBODY SHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! A STAR HAS JUST ENTERED THE ROOM) Look lets get down to the nitty gritty Drake is a very talented artist the arguments of him being wack should have been put to rest when so far gone came out........thaaaaaaaat being said This is not a very good album i am sorry when a guy says first name greatest last name ever then all of us should expect more from him thats a fact But i am glad Drake's album didnt sound like i expected it to sound i was expecting a game changer ex. 50 cent-get rich or die tryin, eminem-marshall mathers lp, lil wayne-carter 3) and the reason i said that is because if this album would have been like the ones i just named every artist would try to really copy off of drakes whole blueprint. dont get me wrong he is going to have a good first week but the field is still wide open for someone to come in and change the game. Some of yall on here need to just concede the point this album was okay but if you had a choice of buying a sandwich or dropping 16 for this cd(most of yall bitch ass drake fans bought the leaked version anyway) you would pick the sandwich Drake has just in my opinion broke a cardinal rule of music dominance When the spotlight is on you. You have to deliver the best possible music of your life something timeless a classic and this was not it also you have only one time to make a first impression and he fucked up royally...lol

  • Cole

I give it 3 mics on my first listen through. I didnt not like any of the Songs, but I probably wont listen to any of them repeatedly besides Show me a Good Time & this other song that reminds me of my girl. Good Production and content but overhyped, only girls will actually go and buy this (glad i downloaded), & the concept of tormented fame is great for this Album but Hopefully he'll be able to diversify his content in the future. I felt like I was listening to "Successful" for 12 tracks straight with none of the songs Actually being as Good as "Successful". (and 2 or three Best I Ever Hads, which again, none of the songs were as good as the template) So Far Gone was way better and it was just an ep smh. I know how to appreciate quality and diff. music tho, It's pretty good but nothing SPECIAL. the main thing that holds this Nigga back is his LYRICISM WHICH HE HAS NONE OF. " Got these nigga nervous...prom night" & these sorts of punchlines are GARB and thats all he does. I mean really? Stick to the Anecdotes Drake your WAY better and more creative at those.

  • kanela12

and i wish Swizz Beatz would stop trying to make us really like that FANCY song... its gay. stop it. that song makes me think of him and drake prancing around in the studio wearing heels with their right hands limp.

  • kanela12

I never really was a big fan of Drake to begin with... this album sounds like the album kanye west wish he would've produced when he put out 808 and heartbreaks. too much damn singing. he has nerve to give that title to his first album... HIP HOP AND R&B DONT MIX. Stop it! its killing hip hop. i understand why people would jock this album, tho. its cuz the radio station will play his songs til our ears bleed.

  • botch

good review.. no way this album's five.. it's a 3 at most. his next album will be better i'm sure. .. but i'm only giving it a one because it's more hooks than verses, he didn't live up to the hype and drake needs bad ratings to step his game up.

  • tradez

pretty decent album. i agree with some ppl there shoulda been more rappin then singin but he did do this to market for girls who luv drake and support his album so sayin this album is garbage is just dumb

co-sign SMOOTHDUDE2002. Drake raps about being embarrassed to drive a Phantom, and "oh no, i could literally pull ANY piece of tail ANYWHERE I go, boo hoo!" how in the fuck is that "real life meaning"? also seeing a bunch of big ticket acts live doesn't make you real, or even really knowledgeable about rap. it just means you have a disposable income.

    • smoothdude2002

dude calm down you sound like a gangsta blogger how is this real life? how does he represent your life or any of us he is a rich kid who is complaining about the fame, money, and women woe is me i cant find love even though i am a rich superstar(this is me playing the worlds smallest violin) cmon most of us are just trying to make it through the day let along week we are struggling in a recession and some rich guy is complaining to us about how great he is how rich he is but yet...im so all alone. get off his sack and take his dick out your mouth or ass because he dont compare to pac or any other old school artist you named

    • HSPOONZ

STFU OG T-Bone, I been skimming through the comments and who the f cares if you been to concerts or when you were born, that doesn't make you more qualified than someone else because of your date of birth. You talk of manhood and insecurity but you seem to be the one insecure...every time someone gives their opinion of the album and it's an average CD rating you feel the need to defend. It's a music site, people are going to write reviews you may not agree with, that's life, something you should have learned in all of your "wise years". Here's a tip, get off HipHop DX, copy the Drake CD to cassette so you can play it in your aftermarket cassette player for your GEO and try and pick up girls in the Taco Bell parking lot, unless you feel the need to defend every review you disagree with about Drake on DX some more...oh and don't forget if you write back to call me a "faget" as you so eloquently sign your posts with.

  • wishworks

If you have skill, but your production is weak, its a half ass album, then you add on the fact that this nigga tries to sing on everything, oh and he can't sing either. fuck is that? Look no hater but bullshit is bullshit , you can say that his different, you can say that he's a talent lyricist, but you can't tell me his mix tape ain't 5x better then his solo debut. How you going claim you the realest but all your song are directed towards females, I'm confused.

Thankyou for speaking truth, this guy and all these new rappers are bullshitters who contradict themselves. Just cus you different dont make you good, or cuz you weird or cuz you call yourself and artist you gotta go hard and earn a listeners respect, and if a nigga test your skills dont just call him a hater or be snobbish and claim you dont have to defend your art you gotta rip a nigga on wax thats why most of the early 90's rappers and Jay and Nas and Em are considered legends no matter where you rank em' and why niggaz be hesitant to throw in the waynes and the yeezys because they never attack the rappers that go at them they just call em haters refer to their money and claim to be a bigger man. we need some real rappers to weed out these sucker mc's

  • byrdgang80

man this is some shitty ass work.

  • Hot_Butter

this album deserves at rating of in the range of 2-2.5. i can understand if i was a girl, i would probably be more into the album but im a guy, so that album really doesn't speak to me. i've tried, but i just can't seem to get into it...

    • QUON

c/s he can't craft great storytelling songs when talking about relationships and problems.

    • OG T-BONE

Because your not confident in your manhood???? Cant speak about relationships and life evolving??? Fuckin tool!

  • kiddkidd

rating it a 5 because of all the haters posting it a 1 star. and saying em, bob album is better. its called thank me later because once you actually listen to it and not being biased against the man. your gonna appreciate it. yeah not every song was good... ill admit but damn the rest is sick. so far gone beat it because he used songs that already existed and just added his interpretation to it. its a lot easier. and it has more songs

  • phillygirl215

once people get over that he isnt the next coming of Biggie or tupac (who is) they will see that this is a good album, consistent with the songs he been putting out all year. everyone expecting Illmatic and Reasonable Doubt? WHY? Thank me later is a good debut from a artist. 5 X's

  • darealmedina

Solid album, don't understand what people were expecting that they didn't get from this album. Its not great but it is deserving of much more than its been rated. So instead of giving it 4 X that its worthy of, I'll give it 5 just to balance out all the bullshit ratings.

  • Aubrey Graham

I'll admit it, my album is plain awful.

  • Heat-357

Im giving it a one because i expected amazing and its average.....

  • ???? still best rite now!!

This review was exactly on point!! If your mixtape was better than your actual LP...then u dropped the ball. I was lookin foward to this droppin..but turned out to be a major disappointment... He incrediblely overthought this LP...this is manufactured commercial bullshit. he found his self tryna please everybody from "hip-hoppers" to "teenieboppers" and succeeded with a half-ass album. congrats! thanks in advance

  • Otherside

what ive learned from lisetning to this album: Drake is rich Drake is Famous Drake life is hard but in a my wallet is too big to fit in my pocket kinda way Drake can't handle success wow what a classic!! get the fukk outta here. lol

    • Otherside

OG T-BONE believe me im very open minded mybe even more so then you. but the fact is the album is shallow to me. im just being truthful. theres nothing genuine about Drake. sorry. just my opinion

    • OG T-BONE

There are metaphors for the na-sayers like your self but your too stupid to see thru the lines... Hip Hop is for the open minded not blinded go listen to some new dance type shit because you dont get the meaning of lyrics! All you fools that are wanna be's I been listening since 1987 were you even born? I been to every man artist concert includiing Pac and BIG what have you done or seen or even watch evolve? Fagets

  • Paradigm

I am very disappointed that anyone can even defend this album. The production on half the album was questionable and if it werent for drake's bars on the songs, hooks +features ... we should all be talkin' shit. you cant produce heat-rocks and create this buzz, then turn around and have a lump of coal in my ride!!! Drake we get --- you are a different breed, he's mixed hip-hop w/ more R&B cause that shit sells. But someone please explain to me how songs like "Karaoke" made it to this cd?!? Drake --- take our advice. You should have switched the title on your debut album to "So Far Gone" and your last mixtape to "Thank Me Later". Two polar opposites!!! Anyone would agree!!!

  • chrisroman

i would give it a 4.75 if possible...just finished listening all the way through...only songs that were out of place was karaoke and cece's interlude...other than that shits hot...people seem to be hating on the fact that he doesn't talk about guns and selling drugs but to each their own i guess

    • Mylie

nobody wants the listen to shit about guns and selling drugs fakkit. the album is a letfdown he dosn't keep it real he seems phoney.

  • jmuzik

    fuk dis nikka flop!

  • Shawty S.O.

2 outta 5 loll i'd say 3 at least but yeah it's a total disappointment....

  • 68 on the dot

Word. The difference between Drake, Kanye & Wayne is the fact that Drake can actually sing. This sure as hell ain't a rap record but is one dope ass R&B one. It's alright though, I'm just gunna quickly browse all your 2 star reviewed albums and download em cause their probably fantastic judging by this sh*tty review.

  • Novakello

Y'all are confusing the f**ck out of who this album was meant for. Even Drake himself has stated several times that this is not supposed to be a grimey rap record. No, I'm not on Drake's d**k but it's pretty clear to see that this reviewer is biased in some way shape or form. If Kanye pulled this s**t (and he did, 808's & Heartbreak) he'd be getting 5 stars by the hundreds. When you guys praise certain Lil Wayne albums and destroy albums where the person might actually be able to sing, it makes y'all look like a bunch of assclowns. To each their own I guess, peace.

  • tonimaze

why is drake rating so low God knows this nikka needs a 4.5 this site is making me feel like they are full of bullshit

  • KidWithKlass87

HipHopDx, I was a devoured fan of your site. I usually go to allhiphop.com and thisis50 and also hhdx (mostly). After seeing this review i am turning in my boots and giving up on HHDX forever. The Washington post, Rollingstone, and AllHiphop.com and many other credible sources have TML a great review. I don't see how HHDX has such a change in taste. of course you have ppl who don't like R&B and bash Drake to death, but I expected HHDX to have an open mind about music. 2.5? really Fuck you HiphopDx -KidWithKlass

  • meilz

classsic fuck yew haters been playing it since i got it

  • wishworks

THIS ALBUM IS STRAIGHT WOLF TICKET. DO NOT BUY THIS ALBUM IF YOU WANTED TO HEAR HIP HOP, FOR IT IS NOT HEAR. I'm tired of hearing flows tainted wit bitch lyrics, so let me make this clear, no hater drake is no Ryan Leslie simply because Ryan Leslie can sing, his production is tight, and we knew his a singer first before we knew he had skills, now drake: 1)Production is weak 2)Wack ass hooks 3)His so called Rnb songs is written well but sung horrible 4)And last but not lease there no substance and any of the (rap) songs

  • iBar

  • Nico 3

At one store (which will go unnamed), it looked like every copy was on the shelf. Even the Plies CD looked like it was selling. I don't know. For all of Drake's supposed talent, his mainstream success might not be such a slam dunk.

  • Soulful Beats

Lol, anyone who doesn't like Drake's album is an automatic 'hater', lol, Drake fans are gettin mad emotional over other people's opinions. How are heads who don't care for the album 'hating' on him? I can see if niggas was wishing bad shit in his life, but not liking something, makes you a 'hater'? Lol, all y'all gotta do is keep dropping 5 star ratings to boost up the overall rating.

  • yalredyknoe

Hip Hop DX are fuckin Haters!!!!!!

  • Alliant Alum. Drexel Student

Overall I think Drake's album was decent. I feel because of all the hype he generated people expected more. I appreciate that his album is different from others, but i was just expecting more. I think he is a good songwriter but lyrically he is just not there yet. If it was more rapping on the album maybe i wouldve liked it more but people have to understand that this album is marketed to "WOMEN"..Women buy more albums and go to more concerts than men. Drake is smart to recognize his audience.

  • sureshot2k5

I would give this 4 1/2. This is a very well made album. Soothing and something that you can listen and ride to. I dont feel like killing anyone or bashing anyones head in , haha..the beats are good, the songs are all well made. Def worth the money.

  • blitz23

If you guys this this album isnt better than so far gone you guys need to get ur ears checked!..theres not one bad track on this album and if you guys are complaining about him singing..i can see where your coming from with that, he kinda over did the singing part. But you cant say the songs are bad, they arn't amazing but to say their bad is just hating on the dude. He was trying to be versatile, how many niggas in the game do u know who can spit a verse like he can AND sing on the hook? thats right not many. Im not trying to say this album is a classic or anything, but it damn sure aint as horrible as all you guys are saying. I believe its a solid album, but nowhere on par with eminem (recovery). That album is rediculous. Overall, most of the people on the site are guys that like HIP HOP..but this album is a mix of rnb and hip hop, so the guys who dont like RNB cuz they think their too gangster to listen to a dude sing, yall just dont know how to enjoy good music straight up. All you guys are saying this albums shit no ones gonna buy it, but i bet ALL yall girlfriends are lining up to buy that shit today. The versatility displayed on this album is only gonna help boost his sales cuz not only guys will be buying this shit, but your girls will be too. So dont hate, this album is gonna sell 500k+ first week, and you can quote me on that one. peace.

    • AT Feezy

Actually i know one person who can spit a sick ass verse and sing the hook pretty tight too...Chamillionaire, who has been spit back into the underground and is hungrier and spitting sicker than ever the last couple years, but nobody @ HHDX gives him any play, they've been sleeping on him for years now, even though he put out some of the best mixtapes of the last few years, namely Mixtape Messiah 4 and 7, and one of the best tapes of this year "Major Pain" that this sight never even mentioned... check em out if you ain't heard them... only if you're prepared though because he actually tries to say some shit on some of his songs.

  • I WILL SAY

    this album is junk

  • Vegasgreen

The album is pure heat!! Do you fools listen to the music or just skim through it????? Even his R & B shit is nice, I like his versatility.

  • Musicman 4eva

Drake has a nice feel to him. the album coulda been betta and like someone stated in a previous comment SO FAR GONE WAS BETTER. but Drake has lost the thing that got me hooked on him his originality. also his arrogance has put himself on the downhill by speakin to highly of himself and who he comparin his album to. Drake seems to conform to whoeva he on the track wit he begin to sound like them, but he is jus gettin started he will turn it all around for the better

  • rece1989

people seem to forget pop music means "popular music" if its a #1 hit song or #1 album its POPular music. whether it be T.i, 50, kanye, wayne, hov, britney spearsm christina aguliera, or alicia keys. a piece of work automatically labeled pop doesn't mean its garbage it just means its popular amongst the world. drake nice ! but im waitin for Kanye to save the day drake was a warm up gettin us ready for yeezy!

    • u the fuckin best

Drake aint no warm up, Drake ass, Kanye and Eminem are the best 2day, those albums they dropping will be the shit.Nicki better than Drake, she killed him on that up all night song.

  • u the fuckin best

    The best Rapper ever,Hands Down.

  • wowowowowowo

This album was good...not great...but good...i'm not too much of a fan with the r & b...but its good to see that he TRIED to be versatile...only problem is that he is in the league of J. Cole, Wale, Kid Cudi, Lupe, etc...and well...their shit was more interesting to listen to (maybe not soo much kudi..but still). He has time to grow...and he will probably be pretty damn good in a few...but...he really missed the opportunity to show why HE SHOULDN'T HAVE BEEN ON THE "FRESHMAN CLASS COVER" of xxl or whatever magazine that was. J. Cole's album is gonna wash this album out to sea...if J. Cole gets more of the "mainstream" buzz like Drake then Drake is really OVER.

    • wowowowowowo

when i say "league" i'm comparing age-wise/style-wise/content-wise...they all have a diversity about them...(non-overly-gangsta/trap this trap that/bang bang shoot shoot etc etc) but not necessarily the same skill levels...i wouldn't say put them in the same league as...gucci man/oj juiceman/wacka/souja boy/etc (drug this..drug that...ak this ak that. etc etc)... ...obviously lupe is light years ahead of him...but still falls into that 21-28 yr old rapper bracket...but we'll remove him off the strength that I by no means think SKILL wise they are in the same league...

    • blitz23

how in the world are you putting lupe on the same list as wale j cole and cudi? lupe has already established his name in the game with 2 classic albums you cant put them in the same league bro.

This is good but not great. True, Drake had a lot of hype coming into this ablum. And he had trouble balancing between rappin and harmonizing. But you can tell he does have tremendous talent with a lot of potential for growth!!!! Hopefully Drake's next go around, he'll be able to put it all together. But don't be no fool, Drake does have a few cutz!!!

  • UNHUH

If Drake is pop, the this is some DAMN good pop music!

  • ASPADEIS

    This album is great.

  • Fris

Album has a lot of room for improvement but I still think it is a good one. I really think its a 4 but I gave it a five to balance out all the haters.

  • Allen_J

I like the album it's entertaining and to me he followed his mixtape formula. It's not great but good. Production is on point lyrically he's the same as he's always been. Yeah he sings on the album too but he's always done that I fail to see what's the difference between his album and anything else he's done. Lauren Hill he's not but Drake he is and I think that's all he's trying to be.

  • Don Lopez

this album is garbage. 100 % pop and r&b

    • cccccc

so why does he claim to be a rapper and not an r&b artist?

    • ReallyDOH

R&B is beautiful music homie. What do you know about that? Most of the greatest albums ever created fall in the pop catagory from Elvis to The Beatles to Michael Jackson to Prince. R&B got Marvin Gay, Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, BoyzIIMen, etc. If Drake is pop, so be it.

  • WHATEVA

All of yawl are familiar with FLOWS and not the content of the lyrics. The best MC's like Biggy, Nas, Jay Z, Eminem, Tupac have both qualities going at the HIGHEST level. I'd add 50 cent to that list if he would broaden his material because the man's talent is undeniable. But it's IMPOSSIBLE to have an intelligent conversation about hip-hop on this site. Drake's flow has room for improvement but by no means is this dude garbage, fuck outta' here with that. This album works and Light Up is one the hottest songs out right for those who can only digest "traditional rap" music.

  • ANTIJEW

Yawl talk big game about what you want and don't want to hear in hip-hop but you fools are too caught up in imagery to even catch what your favorite MCs are actually saying in their songs. Let the rappers rap and you "fans" sit the fuck down and listen instead of popping off at the mouth about absolutely nothing.

  • No Respect for DX any longer

DX rates Yukmouth a 3, and Drake gets a 2.5. I have officially lost all respect for your rating system and your site. El Che gets better marks than drake. wow. This is pure fucking non sense. I was born in 1980 and i grew up listening to hip hop.I been there with the good and the bad. This album is at least a 4. 3.5 at worst. but 2.5. You guys should be ashamed of yourselves.

    • Balls

Pelvissimo, you dumb Italian, DX rating has nothing to do with the peoples ratings, genius. The peoples rating is rite under DX's

    • Pelvissimo

Tha rating on DX is a user rating... meaning its what people on the site voted... Alot of people on these drake stories seem to dislike drake so thats where tha 2.5 is comin from..

  • Toppdogg908

This review was on point, and no Im not a Drake hater, I like him (when hes not just singing on a record) but only four tracks were good on this , Fireworks, Up All Night, Light Up , and Thank me Now. Wales album and B.O.B's albums were better

The Album Was Really Good, the Only Problem I Have With It, Is I Hyped It To Much, My Expectations Was To high, And it Came out And It Was Jus Good Compared To the Shit Rappers it Have Out Today, Drake Has Lyrics, He Aint No Nas Or Jay-Z But He Has Lyrics And I Just Tink Yall Should Jus Give The Album A Chance And listen To It, Its A good Effort From Drizzy Drake.

I dont understandb why all yall drake and weezy fans always talk about sales like you getting a cut of that money.

  • hello young world

He only been in the game thirty minutes, so he got enough time to redeem himself....I feel like this could've been better. In my opinion his mixtape So Far Gone was better than this. I think he is very much needed in the game right now and the closest thing to hip hop we have in this world of "stanky legs" and "daddy strokes". I applaud his talent and effort. Just wasn't what I was expecting?

okay something needs to be cleared up, some of you are right, you have the right not to like this album and that doesnt make you a hater but what MAKES you a hater is coming on here and ripping this album apart! if you truly don't like drake or this album, thats fine, just DONT COMMENT ON IT!! THAT MAKES YOU A HATER if you deliberately take time out of your day to talk shit and tear down an artist...if you feel the desire to rip someone apart like this then yes, you are a HATER, why not go comment on something else?! something u like!

  • Rain Emmmm

There were some good moments in the CD, but it had to many bad moments that overshadowed it. Love song after Love Song! Sounded like a OG Ja Rule LP smh

  • DETROITFIRE

DX hit this right on the head with their review. I know all you people love drake and the kid does spit, but be real, So Far Gone is killin this album. Both albums are filled with r&b tracks, but i would so rather ride out So Far Gone then this shit. His singing is so below par for a r&b album, and his lyrical game (on this album) was so just barely average. It was not a smart move on his part to get everybody in the game that could eat him on every track. Like seriously his only good songs are the ones people feature on, and he gets sonned on every single one. EVEN NIKKI MANAJ ATE HIM!!! Hov went ham on Light Up, and Wayne went dumb on Miss Me. Even T.I. ate him with a average verse on that Fancy track. Drake will one day be one of the best but its gonna take a little longer. He has said plenty of times tho he is droppin his album for the hoes, so they got what they wanted i guess. But i was truly disappointed, i thought it would be finally a lyrical album to ride to. ALBUM = DISAPPOINTMENT...... BUT I STILL RIDE TO THIS SHIT THO

So honestly, I wasn't really checking for this album back around "Best I Ever Had", then I became a fan(ish) on "Forever". I thought "Over" was dope, I loved the anthem lead single, always a good move to get them soldiers marching. "Find Your Love" is probably my favorite track (Kanye guided him well there), which is funny considering I hate that he sings so much, and on every hook; like is this hip-hop or r&b now-a-days? Anyway, "Miss Me" missed the mark for me, especially that crush on Nicki Minaj thing. Then I heard the leaked "Fireworks" track and I thought that was pretty lame and corny, but the beat was very intelligently crafted with the kicks acting as firework blasts in the distance. Then I heard even more leaks of a very unmemorable "Unforgettable", "Fancy" was lame and kind of out of place with no direction & "Shut It Down" was also blah. Then Drake drop the 9AM Freestyle, I was leaning back towards (kind of) copping this, and then they said it's not even going to be on it, and now it's a bonus as if it's not good enough for the regular tracklist. Then probably the best rap track I heard him on another dope Kanye track "You Know, You Know" and I thought 'surely, some good hip-hop shit like this is going to be on the CD!', No. WRONG! So the whole album has leaked now, my favorite track is a "love/hate" relationship, the dopest one isn't on there and "Light Up" which is dope, doesn't even have the best verse on it; Wanye really went crazy on that one to be honest. I won't front, I'll probably end up copping this, but it'll take a few months, and probably not before I buy Kanye's disc first.

  • liquiddopeness

dope ass album in my opinion. I question the explosion noises on karaoke tho, sounds like some shitty fruity loops noise.

  • BangerCENTRAL

Typical hate for Drake. No vision on this site for genre-blending experimentation; god-forbid an artist push Hip-Hop in new and uncharted directions. High culture used to praise and respect artists who brought a new edge to their medium - instead now we tear down people for trying to be different and bring a new sound. There's no disputing that Drake came with a cohesive vision, one that he executed admirably and creatively. His talent is the sounding board for the style...and this whole album is on point. Plain and simple.

  • mad44

fuck yall racist bitch's this shit go off go suck jayz's dick

  • C-Arson

the only songs I can handle are the ones with features. Luckily Drake got THE most expensive guests possible.

  • Twinblades

Haven't hard the album yet but I'll give it a four cuz I know I'll like it. But damn if an album by one of the most talked about names in hiphop right now that has a score 2.5 gets 800 + comments.... Then recovery will mostlikely crash this site lol!!

  • Drucifer1983

If Drake was the best new artist a huge company like Universal could choose to get behind, then Hip Hop is in big time trouble........God, I hate to think what we're gonna be left with in 5 or 6 years, Jay is 40 and Nas and Eminem are both close to it, when they call it a night, whats gonna be left???

    • anoynomous

You I guess. Think about where we stand in time. Think about "the others" lmao

    • SeanySean

Drake definitely isn't one of the best new artists today...he's one of the worst along w/Nicki Minaj, Waka Flocka, and OJ da Juiceman. He's better than them, but Drake aint got shit on J.Cole, B.o.B, Kid Cudi, Fashawn, or Freddie Gibbs

    • C-Arson

I DON'T KNOW DRUCIFER I DONT KNOW (head shakes).............

  • savage88

probally the most overhyped flop ever , this album has no substance it all sounds the same . him whining about a girl " drake failed

  • ibar

Who is Eminem talking about on his new album? Go to www.myspace.com/ibaronline to find out!!! Listen to "!"

  • swiper

eminem's just leaked its sick he went off hes right on point it its an instant classic wow im listening to it!

  • J0SHPWILL

i concur with everything written. the kid oversaturated himself and pretty much drained himself out. one has to admit, however, drake has given us a lot of FREE music that has been great, including so far gone... so, its quite hard to a. put him in a box, and b. not like him as an artist. holistically, he's not as consistent as jay z, nas, kanye, but i GUARANTEE his next album will undoubtedly be a classic. anywho, CHECK ME OUT. I PROMISE GREAT MUSIC. IT'S A PROMISE! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BdylMPXtisY

  • Soulful Beats

Two terms that I think are way over-rated are 'hater' and 'that joint go hard'. How is someone a 'hater' forgiving honest feedback? like Common said, 'just because I said it's wack doesn't mean that I'm hating'. If you wanna talk about 'hardcore' or 'going in hard' (no homo), there's plenty of rappers who do 'go hard' on a beat and make you feel like smashing something because the energy the song gives off is so potent. Thank Me Now is the best joint on the album imo. The other joints is cool if you want something to play at a party to get the bitches stirred up but it seems he spits the same 'struggle' on every song about how those who doubted are hating on him and he's the greatest. Shit was dope on Successful' and even 'Forever' but how many times can you rap and sing about the same thing over and over? Drake can definitely spit and I hope he'll eventually be the rapper he wants to be and not what he thinks the people want him to be. Whether you call it hot or garbage, Drake still doing it big just by keeping his name in people's minds, so you gotta give him props for that.

    • NY+

Common actually said "If I don't like it, I don't like it, that don't mean that I'm hating", just saying. But I actually agree with everything you said.

    • J0SHPWILL

"...and i hope he'll eventually be the rapper he wants to be and not what he thinks the people want him to be." couldn't've said it better myself homie.... anywho, CHECK ME OUT. I PROMISE GREAT MUSIC. IT'S A PROMISE! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BdylMPXtisY

  • blue34

LOL @ these closet homos coming out. Since when did drakes poppy album for teenage girls become a "solid album"? I listened to that and it sucks, the racist comment are going a bit too far but I can get why people hate this drake guy, hes a closet homo like most of his fans(at least the guy ones). The bottom line is if you're a guy and you like drake, I'm expecting you to have a boyfriend that you hold hands with. Only time I'll even listen to this bullshit is if I'm with girls, but usually Lady gaga and ne-yo and other pop shit works for them! Rather that then this crap.

    • Khaim

@blue34 You know what it is. This music is for my niece, not for a grown azz man. I wouldn't have an issue wit this dude if he would just re-classify his genre to pop/RnB.

  • Young Wacko

  • swiper

this is a good album for a debut hes still young hes in hes mid or early 20s hes going to get better at writing. and he should have came out with a double disc and it would have been a classic like all the pop and singing in one and the rap in the other. i admit some songs were wack but he had good songs and singing on some songs were unnecessary but he needs to learn when to sing and when not to. the one with jayz he got killed i mean who really can hang with jayz in a song without getting overshadowed gotta give him credit when credit is due it was a good album..

    • ANTIJEW

JEWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW JEW IS UP IN THIS HOE!!!!!!!!!! FUCK MAN SINCE WEN DID WE LET CANADIAN JEWS RAP?

  • Southerna

it couldhave been better but it was nice . he lacks wat he had in his mixtapes like so far gone n before . hes not making music from his soul but for his pocket . hes becoming too much like wayne n loosing himself ..

    • melontrees

You Know How You Can Tell That People Are Getting Dumber? Remember That Chocolate Rain Song? Everyone Was Saying That It Was A Hot Song Though Smart People Knew It Was Retarded, Had No Message And Was Just Utter Garbage. This Is What The Industry Puts Out Now. Chocolate Rain Albums.

  • HONESTY

BTW Lil Wayne IS THE BEST doing it right now and that includes Eminem wit your mad asses. Yawl are stuck on some old school tired shit. Drake's album is what's up.

  • Ehhhhh

Yawl need to direct your complaints to that Recovery album. Light Up kills anything on that cd.

  • Quavk

And one more thing, this isn't a review at all, theres no proper reasons why its bad or good, its simply a article thats trying to hide hate. The review, if i can call it that..actually looks very pathetic, its in no means professional and its equivalent to the kids on here stanning for other artists typing "this iz bullshitz". Good job degrading your whole website, because i promise you, every proffesional reviewer, and anyone with a brain is going to read this review, and know instantly how much of a moronic hater you are. You deserve it.

  • Double A

    Thank You Drake.

  • Quavk

Its funny, i knew hiphopdx would never give Drakes album above a 3 star before it even came out, i was hoping otherwise because its sad that this website which i visit often has just lost all remaining credibility in my eyes. Its now simply a blog, a childrens blog were bias and hate runs everything.

  • SeanySean

So if you don't like Drake, you're automatically a hater. Yeah ok that makes alot of sense. If I'm a hater b/c I think Drake sucks, then so be it. Drake tries to be lyrical, but it doesn't work...he's just like every other commercial rapper. Before joining Young Money he wasn't bad, ever since joining he has completely sucked. I'll thank you now Drake, thanks for proving me right...that all your hype was unwarrantred, that your just a gimmick.

  • Negro withan Ego - (NWE)

do you even know that semi-niccus a jew?

  • c//gaddic

Not disappointed I downloaded the album expecting utter crap It's not far off DOn't get me wrong a couple banging tracks like "Light it Up" and "Miss Me" were scattered around the album but i just wasn't feelin it at all I appreciate what Drake is doing fusing rap and r&B It's too bad he isn't more talented in the actual rapping to be worth a shit The haters are gonna celebrate as if Drake is anybody worthwhile hating on They're way more suckier and wacker rappers than Aubrey Graham The difference is he at least tries to be lyrical half the time lack of real talent ,substance and focus is what is killing or killed his expectedly short career Young Money is tanking since Rebirth this lp wasn't any different
