Remember 2003, when Eminem produced “Moment of Clarity” for Jay-Z’s The Black Album? It was a sparse, bass-heavy track with a few keys and synths, and perfectly showcased Em’s skills as a budding producer. In hindsight, two ironic points emerge from that offering. It took seven years of fighting through personal tragedy and drug addiction for Em to find his own moment of clarity. And, having found it, beats like the one he supplied Jay-Z are conspicuously absent. Neither of these are necessarily negatives. They just make for one confusingly excellent listen.

Recovery opens with “Cold Wind Blows,” which is arguably the closest Eminem comes to Slim Shady / Marshall Mathers LP territory in nearly a decade. The snares and bass are aggressive, and match with Eminem bars that are as technically precise and shocking as they’ve ever been. Halfway through the track, after hearing him rhyme, “Motherfucker, I'll show you pussy footin' / I'll kick a bitch in the cunt till it makes her queef / And sounds like a fuckin' whoopee cushion / Who the fuck is you pushin'?” it’s obvious that Shady’s back. Sort of.

Even on songs such as “W.T.P.” and “On Fire,” where he’s either bored or taking the usual juvenile jabs at Mariah Carey, Brooke Hogan and Michael J. Fox, he still excels at putting the actual pattern of his bars together better than almost anyone. He rhymes about rhyming. He rhymes about how well he rhymes, and he rhymes about bragging about how well he rhymes, because, well, he can. It proves how drastically his outlook has changed over the past year, since on “Talking 2 Myself,” Em admits he almost dissed Kanye West and Lil Wayne for the hell of it, rhyming, “Hatred was flowing through my veins / On the verge of going insane / I almost made a song dissing Lil Wayne / It's like I was jealous of him because of the attention he was getting / I felt horrible about myself / He was spittin' and I wasn't / Anyone who was buzzin' back then could have got it almost went at Kanye too / Thank God I didn't do it / I would of had my ass handed to me...”

On 2009’s Relapse, listeners called Eminem out for his trite subject matter delivered in what sounded like a faux Swedish accent. Recovery is a response devoid of both flaws. Eminem and his issues serve as the subject matter for the majority of the album, and he’s blatantly honest about both topics. This isn’t the currently trendy, half-emo, “I’m so sad” fare. Em gets introspective on levels previously reached by the likes of Scarface and DMX at their lowest points. Additionally, he recounts his entry into the Rap game (“Almost Famous”), and pushes himself into unfamiliar territory with “Love The Way You Lie” and “Won’t Back Down.”

It’s not that being introspective or talking about domestic issues or personal loss is new for Eminem, but rather the way he tackles all of the above on Recovery. This is the most experimental production he has rhymed over since the Infinite days. At times it’s big and anthemic like “Lose Yourself,” yet still lacks the punch Dr. Dre and The Bass Brothers have provided for so many years. After hearing Just Blaze sample Haddaway’s “What Is Love,” on the Lil Wayne-assisted “No Love,” a visit from either would be a welcomed improvement. And honestly, that type of production—or at least getting used to consistently hearing Eminem rhyme over it—is the album's only flaw.

The current shift in Hip Hop’s landscape finds listeners rewarding artists for experimentation, even when it occasionally goes awry by “Golden Era” standards. You don’t have to look any further than Kanye West’s Auto-Tuned 808’s & Heartbreak, B.o.B.’s Pop/Rock-influenced Adventures of Bobby Ray or Jay-Z’s hipster-infused Blueprint 3.  Eminem’s decision to pair himself with the likes of P!nk and Rihanna or to croon (albeit off-key) about his fallen friend, Proof on “You’re Never Over” seems representative of that shift. Em adapted with the times, and even during his musical missteps, he’s pushing himself to experiment. After all, it’s not 2003 anymore.

  • Andre.CO

His best album since Eminem Show, hands down. I'd give his first three all 5 stars, they were flawless. I gave Encore a 4, only because I couldn't do a 3.75 rating. Yes, it was the first time Em had whack ass songs on an album (Big Weenie, My First Single, Ass Like That) but it also had many good tracks (Never Enough, Yellow Brick Road, Like Toy Soliders, Mosh, Mockingbird, We As Americans, Love You More, Etc). Relapse get's the lowest rating, with a 3/5 but I would have given it 3.25 because his rhyme structures were flawless, it was that god damn accent that ruined the album for me. He should have dropped songs like My Mom, Bagpipes From Baghdad, Same Song and Dance, We Made You, and put his later on Refill leftovers like Hell Breaks Loose, Elevator, Music Box, and Drop the Bomb On Em on there instead. How those were leftovers and those others made his final tracklist is beyond me. Relapse had some good stuff though. 3AM, Deja Vu, Underground, Beautfiul, and his "left overs" to name some of them. Now Recovery.....my only beef with this album is one thing, and it's what most don't like about it............the damn production. Lyrically Em is as solid as ever. The only track I wasn't feeling was So Bad, and WTP is "alright", had some funny stuff for sure. But Cold Wind Blows, On Fire, Going Through Changes, Seduction, No Love, Cinderella Man, Almost Famous, and Untitled...Em goes hard on these and they are dope. Talkin' 2 Myself was solid too, I mean who else would make a song where he admits wanting to take shots at others and being jealous of guys who aren't even half the emcee he is. Won't Back Down, I have mixed feelings about. I don't like the rock feel it has, but Em's lyricism on this track is insane, as is what he says. Not Afraid was a good, and necessary song, if that makes sense. It grew on me over time. Space Bound and Love the Way You Lie are definitely the chick songs....but if people pay attention to what he's actually saying, he spits some twisted shit on these too. 25 to Life is the old hip hop is my girlfriend thing, but he does it well. Solid track. You're Never Over, yeah his chorus is annoying as hell, but it's hard to hate on this song. I wasn't feeling the production, but it's song Em had to make. Overall, I'd give it a 4/5. It could have been a 4.5 if it had better production, that was the only thing that brought it down a bit to me. Still though, it's definitely a return to the raw lyricism and a return to form people were looking for. A good album.

  • jfkdla;

I don't understand how I'm not considered a "real Em fan" if I like this album. I don't think it's his best, but there's no way this can be considered bad.

    • ..

people that hate on this album are not real em fans if they were they would see the genius in this album the same way i do its not his best but it was good...

  • Anonymous

Eminem is the most technically gifted rapper of all time. Countless-multi-syllbaic rhymes, crazy flows, inhuman breath control, complex wordplay, well thought out punchlines, he's got it all. Most amazing rapping abilites of all time.

  • IAmControverse

Eminem doesn't just rap good, he can make an actual rap record with emotion and an actual message. He can actually tell a story. I love that he mastered the whole punchline flow thing in such little time. 10/5. Still can't get over "Space Bound".

  • Shane D

Not em's best album but his flow is hard to match 4/5

  • Anonymous

Damn its so funny to see the eminem bias, compare the reviews on this to the reviews on any other artist album, It almost makes the majority of commenters lose are credibility. People say eminem shouldnt be judged cause hes white, but its clear that white kids will dick ride him near and far all day

    • hater

this album lyrically was good, however from a real hip hop point of view, the beats were pop and he sounded like a feature on most of his songs. "love the way you lie" get out of here with that pop bullshit

  • Lilworm

    this album is straight fire!

  • money_trumpet_mike_05@yahoo.com

    Lyrically this album definitely wins

  • ....

this album was great 5/5 but ya need to get off his dick seems like you em fans be jerkin it to his music

  • will-El-Nino

Meh, lyrically it wasn't as amazing as his earlier stuff like Marshall Matthers LP or Slim Shady. I'm not hating the album but after years of learning from vet rappers like Em on how to write complex rhymes. you just get the feeling like the feeling is gone. Listen to his old ones and go wow, wait, he was better back then but alas, i guess it goes with old age or something like that.

  • Shadyfan

I honestly feel lyrically this is perhaps his best album....he has more of a rhytmic flow than a punchline flow. No Love, Not Afraid, CInderalla man are all great. Not to mention Cold WInd Blows. I feel 25 to life was a lil lame but overall great album

  • G

Relapse is better, but Recovery is still five stars

should be a 3.5 was a decent album, but come on people hop off his dick

  • kalina

for me it is a great album!

  • JJ

Still listening to this album. Eminem the greatest. I Salute this man.

  • Raul Rufin

Hold up. I just finished reading the LASERS reviews and I was just curious how people rated this and wow. How can you criticize Lupe for sounding different then praise Eminem on an album where he once again has lyrics that feel forced and unlike the true Eminem from Infinite, Slim Shady LP, Marshall Mathers LP, and Eminem Show. this cd is okay and is at best an imprvement from his previous two horrendous albums.

    • AZiatic

you're an imbecile for comparing one of the worst rap albums of all time (laser) to one of the best comebacks of all time eat shit and die. btw:u look like a faggot. and relapse>any overrated fiasco album

  • Drea121

One of my fav albums of eminem

  • Eminemfan

this album proves that em did something that no artist these days has done in their past records: he evolved. He started out dope, and then ten years later he still is. Most people come out with the same shit on every single album with no improvement. Em has changed his image with every beat. I swear, he is the best artist out there right now. 5/5

    • G-funny

What about Kanye name all his albums sound different. Eminem's album with a few exceptions almost all sound the same. Not hating on Eminem but what you are saying is just bullshit. Stop sucking him off.

  • K-Lam

This album was fuckin' dope, maybe you haters are hearing something that I'm not, but the only thing lacking in this album was Dre's touch. IMO this album is almost equal to The Eminem Show

  • micc

Recovery is a good album all be it he shouldnt of teamed up with pink n rihanna but on the wont back down track the lines are better than most other mainstream rappers. then session one with slaughter house brilliant. this may not be his best album but it is brilliant it will never match infinite or The LP's but he will always have a stupidly good flow and kill almost anyone hes on the track with

  • J-hunt da Prodigy

It's not nearly as bad as some niggas are saying, but if someone were to ask me is it better then SSLP, MMLP, or Eminem Show: HELL NO!!!

  • Vegard Møller

I would give it a 4.5. It never gets old for me!

u can't listen to this an say this wasn't a really good record. i rate it high

  • jake

it's solid for what it is...a 2010 mainstream (for the most part) rap album. Em is a LEGEND b-c his prime of 96/97-02/03 is one of the sickest 6-7 year periods of GOLD ever (in terms of first Infinite, Slim Shady EP, "Anyman" joint on Rawkus's Soundboming II his first 3 CLASSIC albums, 8 mile joints, b-sides like Stimulate, wake up show "freestyles", features like Forgot about Dre, Renegade, Hellbound, 5 star general, 365, Busa Rhyme, Don't Approach Me, etc). A lot of undergourn emcees who i LOVE don't like Em as much now, but almost all agree he was one of the sickest to ever do it in his prime. From G Rap, to Rakim, to Crooked I, Elzhi, Diabolic, Juice, Louis Logic, Buddens, Ortiz, Royce, Rass Kass, Redman, Pharoahe Monch, Black Though, Mos/Kweli, Chino XL, Common, Jay, Nas, Copywrite, they and MANY MORE have all said Em is one of the best to EVER DO IT (particularly his earliest 6-7 year prime)....

  • T

I'm not a hater, but i think em is gettin credit for just being a white rapper, personaly i think MGK(look him up on livemixtapes.com/indy) is better than him and he dont have a record contract! Think, if fat joe or cassidy had this album instead of emeniem, do you think it would have gone multi-platnium like it did? I gave it a 3 Also, have you noticed that a lot of em fans or gunit fans absulutely HATE lil wayne or young money?

    • Lil roc

My man u gotta pick some better examples. Cassidys a mixtape rapper and fat joe.......well he's fat joe.

    • Anonymous

I agree it is cause he is white

    • Jared Chizda

Buddy fuckin fat Joe could never come up with this shit. Is u crazy

    • Anonymous

no, u r a hater. what a dumb ass comment actually really think about what u just said. whether black or white the lyrics come from the man.damn its 2010 for christ sake get a clue.. and u think joe or cassidy ever comin out wit a record as good as this? hell no what a bitch ass comment

  • Whats REally REal

Album is painfully overrated. Eminem's subject matter is very limited on this album, and his flow is obnoxious. Production is decent, but em's rambling can quickly be mistaken as good just because he sells records. Not to mention he sings which is so damn corny it actually makes me feel a bit embarrased when i play this album.

  • Raphael

I'm out here in South Africa, and I'm lovin da sound in this album!granted not all the tracks are tops but most are dope...Em still hot like lava with da flow, mad props Shady!

  • shadynarcotics

MMLP - 5 stars Eminem Show - 5 stars Recovery - 4.5 stars (couple weak hooks) SSLP - 4.0 Relapse - 4.0 Infinite - 3.5 (was still finding his flow) Encore - 3.0 Still hasn't made a bad album in my opinion and the eminem tracks on The Re-Up were dope as hell.

  • danny

lmao u n1ggers who are hating on this album are obviously functioning retards. haters make the world go round, retards make the world slow down. you obviously have a very bad musical taste. go watch some more jersey shore lmaoooo lmao u idiots provide me lawlz

  • NAPALM

Ok, I let me say I'm a EM fan and definitely think the kid cat spit....but his Stan's take dickriding to new heights. Please forget for a sec that it's your "Great White Hope" and really just listen to the record. While definitely better than that last LP, EM is far removed from the artist he was. Without Dre's beats and direction he just seems to say the same shit over again and again, with the same boring flow. Seriously while I was pulling for him to drop a classic this album while better than his last few is simple what EM has become...boring. now with that said let me say it's still better than 80% of the garbage these other cats are droppin but if EM really wants the respect of true hip-hop heads he needs to get better beats, new subject material and change up the boring as flow...I'm pulling for you tho dude. 3.5/5

  • former Emfan

Kind of a sell-out album. Doing a song with corny popstar Rihanna to make sure people who like corny popmusic buy the album is a sell-out move from Em. I can't support sell-outs so it's over with my respect for Em.

    • dan

you say he is a sell out, with corny popstars, but is Dido not a corny british popstar. That collaboration produced one of the most critically acclaimed rap songs ever. Think about it numb nuts.

    • Anonymous

Its called selling an album what a dumb shit.

    • Nemo

What about the host of other rappers that have non-rap affiliated people to do their chorus in songs? Tupac supposed "best rapper ever" has loads, do you hate him now too? Biggie does too, even though he's got a brilliant, do you hate him too?

    • former Emfan

Rihanna makes corny popmusic. It's pure pop for people to dance to. Yeah I lost some respect for Em when he did that song with Dido, but there still more soul and realness to that song with Dido.

    • Nemo

His song "Stan", a brilliant rap record, and one of Eminem's best contains Dido (ok not as big as Rihanna but still "popstar") so using your logic was he trying to sell-out there rather than create a good album? Nope, stop using that excuse to hate him, Eminem has used non-rap affiliated people to do his choruses for quite a lot of his songs whether it's the "old" Eminem or the "new" Eminem.

    • SS

This is a stupid comment... Notice the song is about abuse... Eminem has admittedly abused his ex-wife in the past, and Rihanna is perfect for the part seeing she was recently abused by Chris Brown.. More about awareness than anything.. Get your facts straight..

  • Nemo

The Marshall Mathers LP The Eminem Show The Slim Shady LP Recovery Relapse Infinite Encore

  • RandomFollowa

I'd give this a 4.5/5, Eminem has matured, he's moved on from that TMMLP persona. In this album he concentrates on the lyrics and lets the others do the choruses.

  • whitesox93

Well Eminem is a devil worshipper, he is pretty much guaranteed success. Those of you who understand the occult and freemasonary will understand me. No offence to Eminem fans (me included)

I had to create an account so I could say: Damn Em rips it - spitting real life, real emotions. Like many of you, I'm not so much a fan of his singing attempts but I am a fan of his music. Honestly, his [singing] voice kinda sucks, but it works. You can really feel the mans emotions on this one. There IS "sincerity in his voice when he talks" and to me that's the art, that's where the message is made believable. And I do believe 1) he's in a happy place with things - and is feeling pretty damn good about it! 2) he came to rip shit. Period. It's like dude died, past through some eternal fire shit and was reborn with ground-shattering perspective and absolute confidence. I personally don't think he's there yet (where? MAYBE the all bow down & kiss my G.O.A.T. status?) but he definitely just took a big step. Makes me wanna go sober. jk... but welcome home. -R1P

  • Blunt

it was an meh album but the one star is for that real#1stan hoe

  • Mr.Crackee

this album didnt do it for me, whack production, hooks, and guest appearences. why does he yell so much on this? seems like he's using the same flows on all the songs too. oh well, at least The Roots album was dope.

  • speakin_tha_truth#53

ehhhhhh, god he sux at singing, please stop em, please stop. still think he fell off after mmlp, got money, stopped trying(hense 50 cent)

For Eminems high standards this is mediocore at best. Only his hardcore fans will think this is one of the best albums ever. The same ones who thought Relapse was the sh*t too when even Marshal himself when looking back on that LP thought it was sub-par. Lyrically = No way near his best. Less original story telling. Less shock value. More dumbed down lyrics. Production = Considering Dre's output over the last few years has been near zero, this album is like a kick in the teeth. His Production, in studio chemistry & direction are glaringly missed in my opinion. Even heavy weights like Just Blaze didn't put their best foot foward. To sum up, Relapse was a 3 out of 5. This album to me is worse than Relapse.

  • mrnoluv

Better than the last two albums, but needs a little more Shady. Certainly the comeback of the year, everyone thought he was finished, but he has something left. Needs more Dre, also. No question album of the year so far.

  • Triple

ac38 = Idiot Recovery is a dope album!!! I def give it an 8.5 outta 10. Lyrically Em cant be fucked with!!!

  • THE REAL#1STAN

BTW, My baby daddy makes some good music! I love you Em! We could still be together!

  • THE REAL#1STAN

GOOGOO24's whore of a mother rates this album 5 X's

  • Nas Esco

Gotta bash it becuase of the dickriders!!! brother ali best white rapper..Fuck Feminem!! this album is trash!! his best one is eminem show the rest are crazy psycho duds..

  • jhuntdaprodigy

It sounded weird on the first listen, not like his past albums, but during the 2nd listen, boy does it grow on you!!! IMO, this is Album of The Year material, at least a nomination. The album low points are Won't Back Down & On Fire. Then So Bad & W.T.P. are kinda average, not really bad though. The rest of the album is straight fire, especially Cold Wind Blows, Love The Way You Lie, No Love, Seduction, pretty much every other song, besides the mentioned low points. One of the best albums of the year, period

  • Dale

    Ehhh......Pretty mediocre.

  • THE REAL#1STAN

    A TRUE MASTERPIECE

  • Omar aka yung kobe 5 star legend

The best eminem album since The eminem Show.

  • lil roc

I heard this album twice already. Its a weird album considerin it has no paul rosenburg or ken keniff skits and its his 1st album without a verse from dre but the music on it iz crazy he had alot of stuff to get off his chest and thats what made it almost a flawless album.Only bad thing wuz way too many samples and he apologizes for relapse and encore bout 4 or 5 times on the cd,theres no need to apologize I loved relapse and encore could've been better but it still had sum joints on it.My favorite joints on it wuz won't back down wit pink and almost famous.

Mannyman55...kill it...that is the worst Em top to bottom Ive ever seen...you obviously do not understand rhyme complexity and bar construction...you think the concepts on Infinite are better than Recovery and Relapse? Even though Encore was his poorest studio album it still is lightyears ahead of Infinite...I remember my first rap song...figure it out... Eminem Top to Bottom -1 Eminem Show -2 Marshall Mathers LP -3 Recovery -4Slim Shady LP -5 Relapse -6 Enore -7 Infinite

  • mannyman55

3 stars is all this cd gets from me . becuz its the truth and i like eminem as a rapper . but the thing that mostly makes this album weak is the HOOKS AND CHORUS " some songs are just waaaaay to poppy . kinda like the new Bone Thugs album they went super pop and so did Eminem with Recovery . a couple good ones and the rest is weak

  • just84

the more i listen to this album...the worse its getting to me...their are only 3 songs i would say are "classic" eminem tracks...the rest is very whiny...the singing is god AWFUL...and some songs are just 100 percent trash...Lil wayne huh...he is blowing wayne and kanyes dick so hard its ridiculous...good album compared to what he's been doing

Dope shit!! could've been better with Dre on it though!!

  • AZMEXICANO

He definitely recovered from the last album. I thought Em was out for the count after that last cd. Glad to see him back. This isnt a classic and you really cant compare it to his first couple albums but it is better than most of that garbage you dudes have on your ipods.

He loses some points for weak beats by Just Blaze on the songs "You're Never Over"...and for having songs with that annoying twat Rihanna and that gremlin Lil Wayne. No real Eminem fan wants to hear Lil Wayne on his shit, c'mon now. But he had great songs like "25 To Life", "Space Bound", "Seduction" and "Almost Famous". And had alot of bangers like "Cold Wind Blows" 'Here We Go", "Cinderella Man", "On Fire" and 'So Bad"...even the two bonus cuts "Ridaz" and "Session One", were dope. And some nice introspective joints like "Not Afraid" and "Going Through Changes". Overall, it's a dope album, definitely not perfect. But still perhaps his best album since "The Eminem Show", and definitely not as good as that album. lol A few better beats, and minus Rihanna and Lil Gayne, and it would have been better, for sure.

Sigh........Yo, whats good people? Chillin? Cool. Well I wanted to drop by and express my opinion about the album. I've had this album about a week or two before officially available, of course I was excited as hell to listen to it and jam the hell out. After hearing "Despicable(Freestyle)" and "Not Afraid" I was glad to hear some good music coming from one of the best that does it, because frankly I was no very pleased with "Relapse" because I only truly jammed to maybe like 5 songs off of it, them being "Beautiful","Underground","My Darling","Careful What You Wish For","3A.M." Again I was very excited to know that Relapse 2 changed to Recovery was being released after hearing "Despicable" which is a song that no one can truly feel like its Garbage, because its not. Anyways, I, as a Huge,...Huge Fan of Eminem, feel that "Recovery" is not a very good album because the album only has a few songs that I really enjoyed. Lyrically he's still doing it nice, but at the same time, he's not, I guess I should say that He lost his touch; unless he releases another album that could be called "Recovered" and spit insane like he did in "Despicable" then I'll go buy the album. I hate to say it since I'm a huge fan of him, but I'm disappointed in his music, and I refuse to say this is his best effort, because it's not. I would rather listen to "Infinite" then Relapse and Recovery, since that's actually what I've been doing. Just because he's Eminem, I'm not gonna say this album is "The Greatest of 2010" or even in his whole Discography. I do feel that he's the best lyricist in the rap/hip hop game but I'm not feeling his music like I did before except for a few. Even the Bonus "Slaughterhouse" collaboration wasn't as great as I thought it would be. Royce had mentioned something about "Slaughterhouse on Steroids" when workin with Eminem. Slaughterhouse are dope ass rappers, and with the greatest, I thought hmm, has to be legendary....but it wasn't. I'm not into the Hip Hop that's mainstream, Its not good music, if you're a musician you should be able to determine what's wack and whats not. If you're a person that has jammed Hip Hop since the 90's then you should know what good Hip Hop excuse me, good Music is. If you've jammed to Hip Hop since "Laffy Taffy" days, then you're are most likely hooked to listening to Wack Music. Catchy music doesn't mean that it's good music. There has been good music that's came out in between "Laffy Taffy" Days till the present, but I would say that 90% of Rap/Hip Hop music has been a disappointment to me.

yahhh dude get the fuck outta here, u dunno shytt. this album was pretty fuckin ill, he def made a recovery on this album. If u listen carefully to the lyrics om his album, it's real interpersonal, talks about his relationship with kim. his kids, proof, hip hop, and does his usual bragging about his skill, but he does an outstanding job with everything. if anything this is almost up to par with the eminem show, i thought he mitve lost it after relapse also, but underground, beautiful and deja vu gave me hope that he still had that skill that we all know him for. nothing else really wowed me or got to me on the album. if you're giving him 2 out of 5, you obviously don't know hip hop, furthermore eminem, so yahh i suggest you goo listen to the album properly and read the lyrics at the same time while you doing it or juss shuddup. this album definetly deserves a 4/5.

    • SBI MEZ M86

Closest opinion I've found yet to my thoughts about this album.

  • DR Jam

This is by any means a dope LP, the delivery is on point like no other. But as a cohesive playthrough on repeat, it just ain't working for me, I gotta go with How I got Over. This is pure MCs, it will hit you the head countless times, in so many ways, you're better off digesting it in bits. Is Em talking about satan when he says that a cold wind is going to hit the world, and we won't see it coming or something like that?

  • Chris_Jacob15

This Album Is Sick, Eminem Is A Lyrical Mastermind and Is Helping Keep Hip-Hop Alive. It Dosent Matter If Your Black, White, or Mexican If You Can Spit Then You Can Spit, Plain and Simple. My Eminem Albums Rank 1.Slim Shady LP 2.Recovery 3.Marshall Mathers LP 4.The Eminem Show 5. Relapse The reason infinite is not on my list is because i cant find it anywhere haha so if you have a link hit me up

    • Sev

Y'all niggaz are dumb, it goes 1.) The Marshall Mathers LP 2.) Recovery 3.) The Slim Shady LP 4.) The Eminem Show 5.) Infinite 6.) Relapse 7.) Encore That's the REAL list. And Eminem doesn't need a verse from Dre to have a good album, just saying.

    • A DUBerton

wow every person who just listed the top Em albums ever is so wrong i felt like i had to get on here tell it like it is. Just one question, how the hell are do u people include relapse in your top 3, and one person said encore was better then the eminem show...hahahahahaha funny. How bout u call ur list FAVORITE Em albums instead of BEST em albums. 1. The Eminem Show (a lot of people wont agree but i just think this album was absolutely flawless, every track was fire) 2. Marshall Mathers LP 3. Slim Shady LP (very close third, MMLP and SSLP are both incredble albums) 4. Recovery 5. Encore & Relapse were both by far his weakest albums but Encore had at least a few tracks I really enjoyed, Yellow brick road, mosh are a couple that come to mind) If i could include the 8 mile soundtrack in the list it would be ahead of both encore and relapse, thats how dissapointing those albums were. Not saying i didnt still bumb it, but by eminem standards they just fell short. But hey, i was pleased with recovery, minus Pink and a few pop-like beats.

    • johnmail

      1. eminem show...best cd hes ever done.. every track is hot 2. recovery.... 3. marshal mathers lp. 4. slim shady lp. 5. relapse/encore both cds only had a couple of tracks worth listening to(pref.)

    FUCKIN AMAZING

  • HA!

I stopped checking for Eminem after Encore disappointed. Then I heard bout Relapse and that disappointed, not production wise or anything becuase it sounds like a Eminem album, but why those accents? But yeah, then I heard bout this shit and heard that Not Afraid song and was like, dude is going to far left with this one. Lyrically the joint is on point, but when is he never on point lyrically. But i heard the rest of the album the other day and i must say, minus a couple tracks like WTP and Youre never over (Only the singing on the hook), then album is dope as fuck. Cool beats, suberb lyrically, hooks aint all too bad. Take those two tracks off or just WTP, and then add in any or all three of the bonus tracks, and you got the best Eminem album since Eminem Show That isnt saying too much so maybe I shouldnt put it like that, but if its MMLP TES SSLP Then Recovery stand tied with Eminem show IMO, either that or a nudge below. Good shit

  • mannyman55

In the words of KRS ONE - MC'S ARE JUST HOPELESS THINKING RECORDS SALES MAKE THEM THE DOPEST "

  • Darren420

Just because he has sold more records than 2pac, Big L etc. doesn't mean he's better than all of them. He surely doesn't make better music than Pac did, nor is he a better lyricist than Big L. There are even some lesser known artists who are arguably right up there with him, personally Z-RO is my favorite rapper still living. Course I'm from Texas so that's just my preferred style of hip hop. Don't get me wrong, Eminem is an incredible rap artist/producer who has earned his respect and then some, but selling the most records doesn't automatically determine that he's the greatest of all time or even the best rapper of the present day. Talent, work ethic and determination should sell records, but in a sense that's just not the way it is right now, case in point Soulja Boy selling a million records and performing at awards shows. His music is pure garbage yet he's making money and getting respect that he has not earned. There's no way he's better than Z-RO, Trae, Immortal Technique, Prince Ea, Tech N9ne, Wax, I could go on and on. Hopefully one day soon, the rap music industry will once again be judged by natural talent, lyricism, wordplay, metaphors, syllable rhymes, sophistication and story telling ability instead of some lame ass dance and love songs. Real talk

    • kwiz

Dickriding aside, I'm pretty sure Marshall in his prime would mince L in his.

    • SlimFan

It doesnt Darren420. But then, you have to admit that few rappers have the versatility Eminem does. Be it Pac, BIG, Jay or Andre. Their rap has always dealt with the dark life of streets. Eminem's rap deals with black, white and grey. BTW, I am from India, so I am kind of oblivious to the East-vs-west rivalry. But I have heard enough of NWA, BIG, Pac, Jay, Kanye and Wayne stuff.

  • Em is the best #1

5 star classic easy. The only album to come close in the last 5 years is Relapse. That's how you know he's the greatest. Truth be told this and Relapse are the only good rap albums out right now. Nothing comes close. Everyone else is either a old fart, washed up hag or boring as dude. Emienm is literally the only rapper keeping the game alive. Without him (like that sone Without Me) rap music would be D-E-A-D. Thank God for Em or else I'd be sitting through some lame ass rapping about how good he is with his cars, bitches, hoes and shit. We need more real lyricists like Eminem. Unfortunatley 99.9% of rappers go the other route. Sad really

  • Drake Dilla

Im not even a humongous Em fan, tho I really like the very first Slim Shady LP, and I thought he did a excellent job on the 8 mile film....I just wish he decided to do a very lyrical album, like his freestyles on the 8 mile movie, haha, But I decided to hear this album after hearing one of his singles on the radio and all the buzz...This album is a bit different and I kinda like it, for the first time in a long time it sets a more positive vibe on Em's part, and it feels more personal and the sets a different tone, which is light yet enjoyable...Im glad its not all "christina aguilara" and "britney spear" pop lyrics, when he steers from that he's dope, but on here its just straight forward cool for the majority...its not perfect minus a a track or two or three and its okay. Em 1.SLim Shady Lp 2.8 Mile (the movie) 3.Recovery 4.MM

  • iBar

this album is gettin rated too high its only one album thats not even that good their not askin u to rate his career

  • D.D.410wutup

only issue with this album was the production. I wanted to hear some BANGERS, but instead I got less. How i got over, Distant Relatives, Sir Lucious Left Foot, and Revolutions, are much better. I don't have to explain why, just use your brain and ears at the same time.

  • THEREAL#1STAN

Albums fuckin amazing. Eminem is the best rapper to ever do it...fuck tha haters

  • n3wm6n

album is fire. if you dont think eminem is a lyrical genius then fuck you

  • bigdave55

eminem has a couple good songs on here , but the song with lil wayne is sooo wack lil wayne is wack and pop

    • EyeMDope

u gotta admit em held it down on that song with lil wayne "when im not even at my harshest you can still get roasted cause Marsh is not mellow"

  • HOODZRUS

I did not listen to this album but since its eminem then of coarse this shit is going to be trash. the only thing good on this album is Lil Wayne. Eminem is white trash.

  • DntWry

Em tried something different on this album and I gotta say i loved it. When was the last time you actually heard Em collab with other artists?? And no to the people that will say he has a bunch of collabos b/c he doesn't think he can carry an album by himself. He did it b/c he is trying to change his style and how ppl perceive him. This album is an instant classic!!!

  • C-Mo Money

Real shit i dont kno wut u dudes be listenin 2 but this is definitely a classic hip hop album. eminem spits the some of the best lyricism i heard in half a decade but still has mainstream production. No one else's material comes close and his battle-oriented rhymes still manage to cross the commercial threshold w/o sounding pop (aka Lil Wayne) Eminem iz still the best rapper alive

  • Dave.hahaa

i was wondering on the psychology of this album, ok so hes getting off drugs. hes put out an album hes not proud of. he's on the up and up of hitting rock bottom. (i like this as ive been in these shoes) THE PEOPLE INTO POP THAT LIKE THE TWILIGHT THE FILM ARE VOTING 5 STARS SO IF YOU WANT TO REDUCE THE TRAVISTY HAHA VOTE 1 STAR. i know hes fairly intelligent so i was wondering if the whole album is a lie. anyway. i wont lie i like his clear vocals and like his story telling so i will always sus him out and chuck it on for an eminem beat/ its a bit disapointing, i would have liked it faster more content lyrically and less simplified. but that wasn't his vision. any way theses my 2cents. hahaha yewwww! my rap history as my opion doesnt have much credibility. im an australian bloke who lives in the suberbs.haha and i enjoyed cage's hells winter. i also grew up on the gangster not so rare stuff and liked it. im 27. hahahah

  • Kiiskis

Holy hell, people really don't seem to understand how rating works. Five stars out of five means the album is PERFECT, that there is nothing wrong with it, or at least it's an instant classic. Yet people say things like 'not his best album but pretty good' and give it five out of five. Illmatic is four and a half out of five as is The Chronic, The Marshall Mathers LP is four. I have not listened to this album yet but I KNOW from the few songs I have heard that it's DAMN SURE NOT PERFECT OR EVEN WORTH 4 STARS. I mean damn, are people really too stupid to figure out how rating works? Two out of five is below average and four is above average. One out of five means it's trash, with trash beats, trash lyrics, trash mixing, trash artwork etc. Three menas it's pretty good, and five means it's pretty much the best rap album ever made, and it's not possible for it to be any better; There's no room for improvement. Stupid people annoy me.

    • SlimRocks

@KIISKIS:Guess you have to get your brain diagnosed. No album is flawless. Even the best make mistakes. What defines "perfection" is doing the important thngs properly. Apart from that, your ears have got so corrupted listening to Kanye West stuff which uses shitloads of production, that you cannot toler8 an album whose forte is verbplay and flow, rather then production.

again i'm slightly surprised at some of these comments. I thought this was a really strong album. not this greatest, but far from anything near his worst. The delivery is still master class, the beats were superb. The few features worked pretty well too. Its a great listen =]

  • eminem just fuckin sucks

EVERYONE IS TIRED OF THE CLICHE EMINEM GIG, HE JUST SUCKS AND ALL HIS SONGS AND ALBUMS SOUND SIMILAR TO ONE ANOTHER, THIS IS JUST A GIGANTIC FLOP, YET AGAIN....HE WILL SELL AND MAKE MILLIONS BUT HE IS NOT HIP-HOP, HE IS PEOPLE MAGAZINE HIP-HOP....NOT LIKE PACK FM, LITTLE BROTHER, GZA, PUNCHLINE, DJ SPINNA, ETC......NOTHING IN THAT CATEGORY AT ALL!

    • MotownMobileHomee

Em came from the underground, he built his empire, he ain't "people magazine" hip-hop. Relapse was garbage with Encore. Nobody but Jay spits even close to him, keep hatin while Detroit and Chicago keep this hip-hop thing goin. Black Milk and Big Sean next, Detroit is hip hop and Mr. Mathers is the mayor and you my boy need to take a history lesson on where he came from and not by watching 8 Mile

    • SutterKane

LOL @ flop, its the best selling first week since 2008, Just cause you dfont like it cant change that Recovery = Succesful album Distant Relatives = Flop

    • SlimRocks

Dude, you know something? Dont bloody think people are fools like you think. If they buy stuff, it is becoz it is good. Why do u think Slim has sold more records then 2pac, Big, Lil Wayne, Jigga, etc. It is becoz he makes good stuff.

  • C305

I AGREE WITH EVERYONE ELSE WHO SAYS HE SOUNDS FORCED... HE SOUNDS COMPLETELY OFF ON HIS TIMING AND SOME OF THE VERSES DONT EVEN RHYME ... HIS FLOW IS INCOSISTENT ON MOST SONGS... DOESNT STAY ON TEMPO.... AT FIRST I THOUGHT THIS ALBUM WAS OK, BUT AFTER LISTENING TO IT FOR A WEEK NOW... I THINK ITS "EH" AT BEST.... PRODUCTION AND HOOKS SUCK BIG @##@!!!!!

  • Raju

I'm a huge fan of Em...probably wasn't a bigger fan of his until Encore came out, and even that album had a beautiful track on it (Mockingbird). This album just isn't on par with his old work. His story telling doesn't relate to people anymore. His problem is that he became so big to the point where he couldn't relate to that white kid in an urban or even suburban area who literally just wanted music to unwind with and relate to, and vibe with. Slim Shady LP is chock full of those tracks. This album had 3 good songs on it in my opinion, and even those aren't anything to write home about.

  • B Steezy

Recovery=Trash! First off for all the people who thought relapse was bad i can't see how this is any better. The beats on releapse were off the hook and that's a fact. Recovery is just bad. There's nothing good about it. "We made you" off of relapse was more of the old slim shady than anything on this album so i don't know how anyone can say this is more like the old slim. Terrible terrible album. Em i think it's time to hang em up. You can still rhyme but that's it.

Some of y'all are fucking straight up idiots. Go listen to The Marshall Mathers LP, or the Eminem Show. Hell, even the Slim Shady LP. Go listen to those albums. No one is expecting the guy to remake those albums, but there is a tangible, passionate quality in the lyrics of those songs on those albums. It's a genius at work. On Recovery, the guy is trying to recreate what he used to be, but it sounds so fucking forced and hollow. There isn't a single fucking lyric on Recovery that is worth quoting. You guys are fuckin' Stans man. "Just enjoy music", "Quit hating", "This album is a classic" SHUT THE FUCK UP. We don't like the album because it's bad. I honestly like Encore and Relapse better than this album, and I think those albums suck donkey balls. Eminem has absolutely lost his fire. He can triple time flow a billion syllables a second all day, but he doesn't say a fucking good line on the entire album. He is trying to recreate the old Eminem, and failing miserably.

    • ac38

      gotta cosign betral

    • hiphopjudge

I agree with @BETRAL . This album isn't good at all. ITS SOOO Forced and Unnatural sounding. The SlimShady LP was genius. Marshall Matters LP was good as hell 2 but it even had better beats. When u listen to those albums u'd understand why people call this man "one of the illest"/TOP5. His last 3 albums were mediocre at best. Relapse was the best outta the last 3 and i don't even like that album so much

    • sadassday

u can like encore more than this all u want but i think the majority of ppl on here have a good enough ear to disagree with you yo

he got mad quotables on every track! "stuck my dick in this game like a rapist, they call me Slim Roethlisberger. i go beserker than a fed up post office worker" AND the features are dope. take another listen. he's still doper than most people that call themselves MCs

  • NYC-LA-T.Dot

Ok i was on my tirade earlier last week about dissing this album because HipHoplamex gave Eminem 4 x's but only gave Drake 2.5 x's.Now this is Eminem's ok material, damn sure not his best, and this album is not a classic. If your a fan of Eminem and Dr.Dre's production skills,Encore,Marshall Mathers LP,8 Mile Soundtrack,"When Shit Hits The Fan" feat Dr.Dre,The Sauce(Benzino Diss) are classic type shit from Eminem, and Eminem knows it,he just wanted to put out a disc about his current emotions, issues, and get over obstacle(kind od biting Drake's style of rhyming on this one a little)but its cool.He aslo has his funny tracks like "WTP","Fire","So Bad".But when he's spittin on tracks like "Wont Back Down"(Pink fits the song well),and the "Hidden Track(prod.by Havoc)" is hot to.And songs like talking to my self feat. kobe is a real track no doubt, and the opener beat " Cold Wind Blows" is a great intro and the hook is funny and catchy as well.Bottom Line in my opinion im a real Em fan, dont like all his shit, but i know good music, and this isnt a classic man, good album cause i only like 11 songs tops outa 17,not good enough to be a classic.I think Em stepping out of his comfort zone(Dr.Dre) was a sign of maturity and growth, but it didnt pay out in the long run, with songs like cinderella man(worst track on the album, hate the guy singing),and all of these R&B chick on these depressing ass songs, not hot for real Recovery gets a 3 out of 5 from me/7 out of 10.

  • YoungAli

Not his best work but, the man's skills are amazing. He could have left off the R@B chicks overall solid album.

  • Mr. Mogul

This album is depressing. Not his best work.

    • Sev

I think of it more as emotional instead of depressing, but then again, it's how you interpret it I guess.

  • Shrinivas Venkatesh

Proclamation of oneself as "the BEST MC" is an aspect of hip-hop that sets it apart from all other genres. And undoubtedly, all rappers indulge in this aspect. Having said that few, extremely few rappers actually analyze themselves to such an extent that they actually pick out there own flaws. For me, this is the one thing that distinguishes Recovery, or Slim on the whole, from the rest. Yes, Dr.Dre's outstanding production is not present, yes, Eminem's skillful lyrics are not totally there. But still, Eminem nullifies all those flaws by taking self-appraisal to an all new level. His impeccable versatility, is conspicuous in the album. This is a hip-hop classic, hands down.

    • SlimRocks

@NYC-LA-T.Dot:Come on, lets take it both ways, if he has sold 80 million+, it means he has made awesome stuff (else it implies Americans are really dumb). And you tell me, if a white can sell so much in a black domain, it makes him special. Take it dis way. Nas is a one-hit-wonder, nothing gr8 post-Illmatic. Snoop is shit, 'coz he can't give solo hits, Doggystyle was a hit only coz of Dre. Jigga 2 relies on Kanyeezy 4 production. @Ac38:Dude, the production of the album sucks. But, I am saying it is a classic purely coz of the content and background.

    • ac38

      recovery=far from a hip-hop classic

    • ChrisPoi187

NYC-LA-T.Dot you're telling me that Lil Wayne, T.I, Snoop and Game(not that i'm not a fan of them) are better MCs than Em??go listen On Fire,Hellbound and some of em's punch lines from Rap Olympics in 1997.Even before he was famous he would kill all these guys!!

    • NYC-LA-T.Dot

Hes not the best MC idiot,no such thing We Got Nas,Jay-Z,Biggie,Pac,Rakim,T.I,Lil Wayne,Snoop Dogg,The Game,BunB.ECT........ Its all who you think, but there is no declared one, just because Em has sold over 80 million doesnt make his the best,Nas,Jay,Snoop,or Game would get in that ass if it came to a battle.

    • BALLS

Wow, my English professor is a hip hop fan?!?! And he goes to hiphopdx??

One of the greatest albums to be put out!!! This is music people! All these songs i bet relate to something you having goin on in life! Em reaching us for real! LISTEN ya dig...DETROIT stand up we neva fell off.

first of all Em is the greatest mc of all time some of the shit you people on here are saying is whack as fuck! saying hes lost his touch he hasnt lost shit if anything hes gotten better he grew up and hes talkin about grown ass man shit now! id like to see anyone in the game try and battle him he will Slaughter anyone in the game hands down no question! Recovery is a great album! you guys cant compare his albums there all great! and there all different thats what makes Em the best if he kept making the same shit over and over it would get boring he mixes it up. thats what relapse was! then he went all out on Recovery and its the best album of the year. oh and btw drakes album was a complete bust so much hype for nothin! recovery kills that shit! Congrats Em! Slim Shady is back!

  • em the greatest

OVERRATED before you eminem nuthuggers get on my ass i would like to mention that he was the first rapper that brought me into the game and i consider him to be one of the best rappers/lyricists ever..... now onto the album some of you fans seem so blinded that you are so quick to call this album a classic...."it will grow on you"- many of you make this statement and im sorry to say that his old albums never grew on me, they hit me right away, why the fuck would you have to listen to an album numerous times to like it if its coming from a top 5 lyricist like eminem...Recovery is basically in recovery mode for eminem, he isnt at true form yet.....Relapse was shit and that was released like a year ago, 1 fucking year and then he releases this album and all of you stans that hyped relapse are now hyping this shit....im going to give Em one more album and i think he will be up to the level that he once was at with EMS, MMLP, and SSLP....this album, encore, and relapse will ALWAYS be below those three albums no matter what. open up your ears people, i understand that we all want eminem to come back and hopefully he will, too bad he has soooo many fans that i dont know how old or how much of a hip hop head each one is when they make outrageous comments like " Album of the year" and "classic".....I would put Distant Relatives above this album and actually label that one a classic because each song had meaning and substance...... eminem has lost it and i think the drugs fucked with his mind so much, he shouldve taken the time to get into true form instead of rushing both of these last two albums out....i know he has gone through alot but when speaking about the caliber of this album, it doesnt come near his classics Please no hate, just stating my opinion, feel free to respond but remember i hold eminem to a high level and everything he puts out i judge carefully because he earned that respect.....peace

    • Shrinivas Venkatesh

Come on guyz, albums like Marshall Matthers LP and The Eminem Show are masterpieces, and even coming close to them means the album is a classic. I am not saying Recovery is flawless, but let us admire the uniqueness and individuality of this album. And while I am a huge fan of Weezy, Jigga and Kanyeezy, you can't expect them to rap with the intellectual brilliance of Eminem.

    • BEANZ

I can agree with the fact that this album is overrated. I heard the hype and anticipated a revigorated Eminem. Multiple times throughout the album I downright said to myself "Uh, what the fuck was he going for with this cut?". What's more important to me at this point in his career is that he experiments and finds new rhythms. Anyone expecting a Marshall Mathers LP Part Deux needs to stop drinking. Never believe the hype, even though it's sometimes impossible. Just appreciate originality, even though it WILL fail here and there, and remember it's all about the message in the music.

  • BEANZ

In all honesty, I'm not an Eminem fan. However, his lyrical brilliance is undeniable no matter who you are. In a nutshell, Recovery held its own more so than Relapse in my opinion, displaying more diverse dimensions of the experience that is Eminem's music. Pop-hop songs are considered filler in my book. Recovery contained far too much pop influence, but that's strictly my preference. Cold Wind Blows is a great intro that kept me tuned in, thanks to the talents of Just Blaze. I drifted idly through the album until Going Through Changes, an acoustic guitar bearing track displaying Eminem's unrivaled emotional energy (try listening to Stan without feeling his pain). No Love also impressed me due to the fact that it could have gone wrong in so many ways. A gutsy sample by Just Blaze left me wondering how something so potentially ridiculous resulted in a respectable song making me re-question the capabilties of Lil Wayne (not a southern rap fan either, besides Jay Electronica, of course) and the ever-increasing skill of Eminem's flow. Recovery caught my attention and left an impression, a prestigious accomplisment to a fan of Boom-Bap and soul samples. I'll be anticipating Eminem's next effort with open ears, sans the Pink and Rihanna guest spots. (For the record, yes, Just Blaze on production does catch my attention and does leave a postive bias. Production can make-or-break an album, and without Just Blaze I may have been forced to fully appreciate Dr. Dre's efforts on So Bad and never listen through this album again, much like Relapse).

  • Laffyette

Good album, entertaining but then again I've enjoyed all his albums in one way or another. The production was okay and the hooks were aight but lyrically he ripped it. So with that... 1. Slim Shady 2. MM 3. Recovery 4. The Eminem Show 5. Relapse 6. Encore That's not taking anything away from Encore because I still listen to it for about 4 songs but it was just a goofy album.

  • mr felon

i thought the album was good..........AND I CANT WAIT TO HEAR MORE FROM EM FT SLAUGHTERHOUSE............

  • SutterKane

I just read on some site that recovery is expected to sell around 750K the first week, thats insane....... So, let me see If I have everything clear............Eminem has a #1 single, an album about to be the best first week of the year, and an album people are arguing about all over the internet??.........Did I hop in a time portal and wake up in 2000 or summin?? Em's career is bullet proof or summin, I dunno, I cant call it.....

  • Royal3

Recovery was lyrically structured well. He used more punchlines and got a little more lyrically complex... My problem is that his overall songwriting ability has been sacrificed for that. When I say "Songwriting Ability" I mean: -His Actual Content (90% of the time he's not rapping about anything but how much better he is at rapping than anybody else. The rest of the time it's just a bunch of random stuff ) -His Choice of Beats (To me, only 6 or so of the beats he chose are good. He made a big mistake in not involving the Bass Brothers or His own production on his album. Too many beats were wack...) -His ability to make a good ass hook (Did you hear that song "Cold Wind Blows" or "Fire" ??? Eminem is capable of making the best hooks in hip-hop. So tell me why he all of a sudden sucks at it now???) -His talent of creating powerfull Emotionally charged music (Only a few songs on this album show where Eminem is in his life right now. He's barely taking the time to fill us in on what he's been up to and taking more time talking shit....) And to the niggas that are ready to reply with their coonery... Eminem was my 1st favorite rapper for a reason...because he did what no other rapper could. Now he's reduced to just being extremely lyrical (which was what made me a fan) but now it's to the point that you have to print out his lyrics only to read them and see that at the end of the day, the song has no point or underlying message behind it....smh....Shady is waaay better than that. Neither Relapse nor Recovery have much real Substance... Relapse had more favorable beats to me than Recovery did. To say this is better than the SS LP, MM LP or E Show.... it just tells me that you don't care much about the ability to write a song that means something.......smfh

    • ac38

r u serious.his lyrics now are straight up weird and his ryme schemes nowadays r stupid

    • BALLS

WOw, all you muhfuckas got waayyyy too much time on your hands.....literally...

    • BEANZ

I agree with you on multiple levels, mainly on his hooks. His hooks really distracted from the energy of his songs. I'd start questioning if the album was even worth listening to until his next verse kicked in, then I'd remember the lyrical genius that he is.

    • illness_personified

you basically over analyzed the shit out of it dumb ass...the album is fucking fire barring a few weak joints....thier, you are welcome....

    • SutterKane

I dunno, I gotta disagree with alot of your points.....I like the content of this album, basic, to the point and well worded........I liked The SSLP when I was 16, I'm 26 now, its like South Park to me, loved it as a kid, now I'm like "Oh wow, a fart joke" and flip the channel.........Thats where Em was at with Relapse, but on this one, he pretty much left the clown show on the doorstep and came in with battle raps, Punchlines, Metaphors and Flows......I'd rather have that from him at this point then another song about eating Mushrooms and raping his mother.....Em's a great MC no matter what he talks about but I'm not gonna buy summin like the SSLP today, just not for me anymore *shrugs* But everyones entitled to their opinion

  • Hatersfallback

Best album of 2010 and eminems best work since eminem show. Haters fall back. Youll getting mad wood over an album you "hate" Yall just some undercover stans Eminem is the best rapper alive. Recovery just proved it. Suck on that.

    • BEANZ

@ILLNESS_PERSONIFIED I really hate to admit it, but your correct about the game evolving. Nas is my favorite rapper of all time, but I would be lieing to myself if I said his latest efforts alone proved this opinion. All that's important to me now-a-days are those moments when I listen to Nas and hear the mastery of Illmatic shine through his music. Those moments give me hope for the future of the genre, not satisfaction in the hopes of an old-school revival.

    • illness_personified

agreed about Nas sort of ...look the nigga started at the top of a hill and rolled all the way down it....his first three albums and stillmatic were hot, THATS IT....he is garbage now and if you cant see that then you are fucking lying to yourself...look at one point LL and Rakim were the GOATS but they fell off and if you still think these niggas is the greatest then you need to pull your head out of your ass and come back to the future...thats the best thing about hip hop...unlike rock which is stale and gay and has been for 2 decades hip hop is constantly evolving and getting better...to me there can never be a greatest of all time, just greats of thier time....

    • kcity3

Sorry but most people at high schools these days have no clue who Nas is.He's no longer relevant. He never got played on TRL.Years from now Eminem will be remembered while Nas will be a has been. You guys that hate on Em are the same one's who sucked Kanye and Waynes dick back in 07 or 08. Nas cant come close to Illmatic, however Em CAN come close to his early efforts. Why does everyone act like SSLP is the golden standard? That album was great but had a lot of rookie mistakes.I say MMLP is the golden standard.

    • aaasdfsdf

Best album of 2010 my ass. This was a mediocre album from a once amazing album. Best since Eminem Show? Maybe, but that doesn't mean shit when the two album released between that time period were absolute fucking crap (with the exception of a couple songs). No way in hell is he the best rapper alive, and just because you said it does not make it true. Nas is a better rapper and he proved it with fucking Distant Relatives. Best? Idk, but it's not Em. Maybe if he continued to release albums like SSLP for 10 years, but that's not the case is it?

    • Dab

So on a review with an overall score of 4.5 stars from the comments. You're talking about "haters" even though 99% of the comments are positive toward Em? Plus why are you so sensitve to other people's opinions? You fuckin Eminem or something?

  • emfan

ya'll niggas r sure fuckin dumb give me one album from the past two years that can come even close to recovery and relapse was a great albym

    • Kiiskis

Just one? The Ritual (2008). I can probably drop around 20 from the top of my head, if you'd like. Of course, as your name suggests, you're probably a stan and unable to see anything that's happening behind the curtain, behind the hip-pop mainstream bullshit that Eminem is very much part of these days. No disrespect towards Em's old shit but he's trash these days, only interested in making a buck and getting the next pill and it shows.

    • trudat

I just took relapse/refill out of my deck 2 weeks before recovery. I dont know why people say relapse sucks. I know there are some wack songs but there are people that love them wack songs. crack a bottle, (the worst song in em's career) is one of the highest selling songs in itunes history. if recovery aint a 5, then what is?

  • hiphopjudge

Its OK. The Beats were not that great. He had the same flow 85% of the album. The Slaughterhouse track shouldn't have been a bonus track. Features were somewhat of an insult (besides the Pink track that Khalil produced). Em is clearly not as creative as he used to be and is just trying to stay relevant rather than making the album his fans been anticipated for. The Song structures get stagnant throughout the album and it doesn't compliment Em as an artist. THE SLIM SHADY LP 4.5/5 THE MARSHALL MATTERS LP 4.5/5 THE EMINEM SHOW 4/5 Go back and listen to those

    • hiphopjudge

@SutterKane Dude i respect anyone's opinion. At the end of the day.... Music is subjective. But i'm assuming you've never heard his earlier work. Like his 1st 2 albums. He sounded hungry and Creative. Granted "number 1 source for online Music" aka itunes. These record companies have promoters to push the record. Ratings and reviews play part in that. That 5 star rating was payed for. Maybe if this was a brand new Artist and his debut album...i could listen to it with an open mind. BUT ITS EMINEM!!!! "STAN", "ROLE MODEL", "GUILTY CONSCIENCE", "KILL YOU", "THE REAL SLIM SHADY", "MOSH" "LOSE YOURSELF" "THE WAY I AM" "8MILE RD" i can go on and on. Name ONE song off of recovery that matches any of the once i mentioned. I REST MY CASE

    • SutterKane

@ Hiphopjudge Actually, your "Instead of giving the fans what they wanted" statement lacks substance or credibility......Go to Itunes and check the fan rating on the album, its at a solid 5 stars, I cant remember the last time I saw that for an album on Itunes, and you cant just say its because its Eminem, cause Relapse had a much lower rating.... So, based on stats from the internets #1 source for online Music, it would appear the facts discredit your statement...... Not telling you what to like, but dont mistake your opinion for the Opinion of the masses, Most Em fans are giving this one the Thumbs up, just how it is

    • Hatersfallback

You're not a very good hiphopjudge. Go listen to some unknown underground artist.

  • eminemthebest

BEST ALBUM OF THE YEAR!!!!!! KILLUMINATI!!!!!

  • J_Claude

RECOVERY IS A DOPE ALBUM! The only song I don't like is W.T.P. I've been a Em fan since April of 1999 and he is the best in the game!

  • Just a man

Honestly even though I enjoyed Relapse I was hesitant and even convinced to avoid purchasing/downloading this album after the disapointment of Relapse Refil. I conspired wether to get it or not for about a week or two but after listening to the mad comments my freinds said about it and reading up on a few reviews I decided I'm going to get this. While this can't be compared to somthing like the Marshal Mathers LP or even 8 mile I must conclude that this is well worth it. I will have to begin with the bad, in this day and age where rappers and MC's aren't just rapping and emceeing it seems as if Em has cuaght on. He sings far to much, while I have enjoyed him singing once before I have to remain by my opinion that Em singing sounds horrible. That's really all I can say on the bad side. I don't have to tell you that this has some great lyrical art, beats and consistant features. Although to me this album dosen't reek of classic and best album of the year it hits us with the expected consistency. So I can't complain but I can't say that this is going to stand out in my playlists when I have The Roots, PackFM, Vinnie Paz and Yu all bumping. Lyrics - 5/5 Beats 4/5 Creativity - 4/5 Overall - 4/5

  • keyturn

It's obvious some of you guys don't REALLY know what constitutes good/great music. Great albums never never conform to the popular recipe of the moment, it's what makes them great. It's not about who has the illest metaphors or greatest lyrics, or hottest beats, it's about the feeling the artist conveys on the track. It's the reason that 2Pac, Quest, J Dilla, Dre, among others or considered some of the G.O.A.T. None of these artist conformed to any formula that the masses said was OK. You can even argue that none of them had the most complex lyrics or beats, but they make tracks FEEL good, and you can relate to what the artist is going through in terms of lyrics, while the greatest beatmakers know how to compose music that can change your mood, making you feel energetic, sad, happy, etc. When you over analyze anything you start to lose the true essence of it. Listen with your heart, and not your head, and you'll eventually lose the need to hate on very good projects. BTW, great work Em, one of your best albums by far, you were starting to worry me for a minute with the last couple releases, but this album explains a lot. Glad you had the courage to face your demons and share the experience with the rest of us, something that most MEN would wouldn't have the heart to do.

    • Ola Dioss

well fucking said...you conveyed exactly what i wasn't thinking far too much hate, and half of you are looking for something which no longer exists...you have to complete the circle in order for a new circle to begin..and if you can't get what i'm saying nor that dude above me is saying..then you think you know but you have no idea.. criticism fine..but hate is HATE..as a bitch was, is and will always be a bitch.

  • Willie Barnes II

Boring ass album. i like 3 tracks. he has the same flow on 90% of the album. "Relapse" whoops this album's ass with just one track.

    • Sev

Same flow on 90% of the album? Common sense here, please. If he switched up his flow too much, you would say his rhymes are weak or don't come across strong because they're too slow or you'd say he was stealing someone elses flow. Rappers find their way to rap, get comfortable with it and use it accordingly. Stop finding something to complain about. And there is too much excellent lyrical content, metaphors themes, you name it on this album to say that its boring. I think you may be illiterate. You foreign? Not to mention half of the songs have a meaning which is more than can be said for his best album, The Marshall Mathers LP. Even though it's still his best album, it was filled with toilet humour and immature themes. This albums got respectable emotion to it, which makes it so good. Relapse was filled with the same kind of humour, which Eminem is finally starting to grow up so that people can take him seriously, and people can understand what he's going through with the death of his best friend. Obviously opinions are opinions, but common sense is also common sense, keep that in mind.

  • The Aztec Oumpaloumpa

The problem with this is his tone. I can't listen to Em anymore and it pisses me off cauz yall right : he's a great lyricist...He needs to lay back a little and just spit his shit....but the album is allright....sure not a classic

  • Gregory Hines

I heard this album over & over trying hard to like it. I wanna say maybe 5 out of 17 tracks is the most I can listen to. The beats r not all that for the most part with the exception of a few good ones that were actually bangin! Do me a favor u bunch of non-history wanna b hipsters hip hopping ur way to the burbs...Please never ever compare Nas to Em..Em is by far my favorite rapper..but u can't dismiss Nas so easaly. U ppl talk without doing ur history. Lyrically & word play the way rhymes r written and delivered Em is a monster a beast but Nas is King when it comes to the pen game & flow!! If ur 21 years old & under please dont reply to this comment! We can't relate & u have no knowledge of what Im saying. Nas, Jay Z, Black thought, MOS DEF, Ghost Face, Jadakiss, Beanie Segal, etc..can bring it hands donw & I didn't even mention Slaughter House & a few other dope MC's who can demolish the pen. Em is great but he can't out do Nas man...no way! Em need an Illmatic first! Em was yelling to much on here & the hooks r annoying at times...He still super dope tho..Better then anything out right now..I give this a 0.4 for the lyrical content!

    • Gregory Hines

To ALRYTEYO...Ur a rarity...If ur 19 & u listen to that golden era music it shows ur a person who's been put on to this by ur older peers which I think is a great thing. It shows u r intelligent & u take the time to know ur history..We have to know the music & know the history & appreciate great HIP HOP..The new generation is dope to dont get me wrong but u can't say Em is the G.O.A.T..He's one of them, lets b clear..This is not about who knows more & old against young..this is about facts & Im tired of the stupid comments all tho Im not here to control what these knuckle heads write..but yea I commend u man if this is what ur up on listening to...That was the golden era & it can't b duplicated..U have a great point..I agree with u 100...Good shit homie! Ur 100% right about Em in ur opinion...One Love homie!

    • Gregory Hines

Exactly..Im not taking any credit away from Em but this is hard to listen to on any given day..I would have to b in the mood for this album..Its not an album I would listen to over & over! Love Em but this aint a classic..classic can only b used when appropriate..!!

    • alryteyo

Really? I'm 19 and all I listen to is Nas, Pete Rock & CL Smooth, MF Doom, Mos Def etc. Underground is the only rap nowadays that is even close to good. And for Eminem I think Eminem show was his Illmatic the only thing is that instead of getting better like Nas did Eminem fell off. Eminem is great and will always be thats why I only listen to his old stuff now.

    • meesle

Well stated, ppl are forcing themselves to like this cd, I can tell after the first listen this I've tried and tried but each listen is getting worse.

  • Tommy85

Best shit i've heard in quite some time..especially from em. if he would have thrown in some better hooks and beats this could possibly be the best cd i purchased in over 5 years. almost every song deals with his personal trials and tribulations and i usually don't wanna hear about some rappers problems..but the way he spits you cant help but be intrigued by every word that falls out his mouth. so sick it gives me the chills..must buy in my opinion.

  • bigmack88

some of those albums are not classic homie 2 pac - me against the world Nas - illmatic Lost boyz - legal drug money Gangstarr - Moment Of Truth Biggie - ready to die Reflections Eternal - Train of thought Dr Dre - the chronic Mobb Deep - The Infamous and Hell on earth Eric b and Rakim - paid in full NWA - straight outta compton Madvillian - Madvilliany 8 Ball & MJG - Comin out hard LL Cool J - Bad and Radio BDP - Criminal Minded Bone Thugs N Harmony - Creepin On Ah Come Up Redman - Muddy Waters and Whut Thee Album etc etc Recovery was ok not classic no where near it

  • muzikCALI

3.5-4.0.. Rhyme structure is on point. Too much material on his relationships. I cant replay this regulary.

  • J-Yo

The Cd is WAYYYY better than Relapse that's for sure, but its still really whack. it has a couple of Good Tracks like "25 to life" and "Seduction" but other than that its straight trash! Everybody is stating that Recovery is dope and its great its a classic and this and that, but that's the same thing y'all said about relapse, and even Eminem the artist who made this album doesn't agree with y'all LMAO! Eminem has fell off, he just doesn't flow right anymore, it seems to me like he's just trying to hard. He's always yelling and complaining, he's a grade a Whiner I have my own problems to worry about, I don't really care about his nor do I want to hear about them. With that being said, This album is garbage, I even took it off my I-Pod, even though I didn't have to pay for it LOL Em Should retire if he wants to go down as the best ever, its sad because he use to be my fav. artist by far But by now I must admit Lil Wayne has passed him by a lot. Em is a screamer, he should do rock songs!

    • LUMBARJACK

ok ill agree with you that he whines alot or w.e but look at what happened with relapse everyone was bitching that he was using too many punchlines and talking only about that horrorcore shit and wasnt talkin about enough real shit and not gettin deep enough, now on this album he starts doing it and yall still bitchin. he can never seem to win with the fans. ive liked each album for what it is. even relapse cause to me it felt like he was taking it back to the slim shady days. this one makes me think back to the eminem show days while ik nothing he probably does will ever be as good as that cause to me that was his best album but still. this album is amazing the only song i can really feel like i can complain about is wont back down. and yea he complains and talks about his problems but thats what makes him and so many other artists that talk about real shit so great its the fact that they can get ppl to connect to and feel what their saying which i got from quite a few tracks on recovery. and 1 more thing if you seriousssssssssssssly believe lil wayne is better then him know you must have an IQ of like 10 or just be a follower like all those little kids in highschool who listen to somethin cause everyone else does. i have never connected with a lil wayne song, all he talks about is cars money weed pussy and how cool and amazing he is. and hes got elementary level rhymes dude. that and he says the same shit words to rhyme with half the time. oh and hes a serious fucking biter. heres proof. http://www.youtube.com/user/officialfucklilwayne#p/u/35/Om5UCd-68kw its fucked. he even fuckin copied off of ashanti!!!!! dude is ass. nuff said.

    • alryteyo

I think Wayne is good with puns and party beats otherwise all I heard out of wayne's mouth is "pop pussy pop pussy pop pussy JR! AHAHAAH." Dont get me wrong tha carter II was classic hands down. but for your list I strongly agree excpet for Rick Ross I just cant wrap my ears around his songs they are annoying. Go listen to trap or die 2 and the new young buck mixtape and i think you might modify that list haha.

    • HEARDEM

The list you put up Now those are classics.. This Recovery is just another Em album but got damn you gotta be Em's relative or bitch to think its a classic.. these niggas be smokin some good shit foreal... If Em drew a stick figure picture of himself the stan/dickriders would say its better work then Leonardo da Vinci's shit

    • HEARDEM

Damn homie you said it best on the cool... Cosign with niggas forcing to like the CD and all of the above.. Its like you eating shit, but you force yourself to think its a juicy Steak and all of a sudden its the best shit you ever ate LOL... Nice homie.

    • J-Yo

Most of yall even stated that you had to listen to the album a bunch of times to start liking it, in other words your kind of forcing yourself to like it, When a CD is a classic you will like it off Rip just like: The Chronic 2001 Get Rich or Die Trying The Massacre The Games 1st Album Marshall Mathers Slim Shady LP Life after Death Ready to Die Straight Out of Cashville Hunger for more, Tha Carter I Tha Carter II Port of Miami Trap or Die These albums didn't require more than one listen to know it was a classic and till this day they are still classics... This is just my opinion, but I gotta keep it real as much I hate to...

  • skinny ginny

EMINEMS FLOW IS JUST BANANAS, SPITTING WISE HE HAS NEVER BEEN SO SICK, HIS OLD SONGS HAVE CATCHIER HOOKS AND SHIT BUT THIS NEW ALBUM SHOWS EMINEM RIDING THE BEAT LIKE NO OTHER. AND HIS VERSE ON NO LOVE IS PROBABLY THE SICKEST SHYT I HAVE EVER HEARD, GIVES ME GOOSEBUMPS, WHAT AN ANIMAL G.O.A.T

  • steel city kid

welp drake had his one week to bask in the glory and now eminem has taken hip-hop back!! eminem has regained his old form on this album...on encore and relapse he seemed to be content with being the best, so he didnt have to try anymore, he was just making silly farting songs and bullshit songs...but with this album he seems hungry and eager to prove he is the best...he's finally back to rapping with passion and fire!!!!

  • dj the dj

welp drake had his one week to bask in the glory and now eminem has taken hip-hop back!! eminem has regained his old form on this album...on encore and relapse he seemed to be content with being the best, so he didnt have to try anymore, he was just making silly farting songs and bullshit songs...but with this album he seems hungry and eager to prove he is the best...he's finally back to rapping with passion and fire!!!

  • I'm at work and bored

People are weird. Slim Shady LP and MM LP are his best? Yeah, 10 years ago it was. Relapse, Recovery, Eminem Show even ENCORE is better than those 2 albums. I can't even listen to his old shit anymore because it sounds like nursery rhymes compare to shit his making now.

    • I'm at work and bored

I'm now at a point where I actually get mad when I hear a Eminem song WITHOUT the weird crazy Irish accent.

    • YOURNAME

naa man, he should have never stop working with the bass brothers but i know times change and thats cool thats just my personal opinion for me mmlp is untopable second is sslp cos thats when he was at his rawest and t.e.s is amazing to. wouldnt change a thing about any of em. but i think encore wasnt no were near his previous three ( songs like big weenie, my first single, just loose it etc prove this) and the thing about relapse was the accents totally hindered the album. however recovery is a step in the right direction, but one to many sampled hooks for my personal liking.. like i said these are just my personal views and shit. im sure you all have different thoughts about it so to conclude. Em get on your iphone 4 /blackberry what ever and hit up mark & jeff bass.

    • I'm at work and bored

Encore was ill. Besides Ass like dat and Just lose it, whole album is excellent.

    • Finally

Bout time someone said Encore is ill. I think he's stepped it up on every album. Relapse/Refill was fucking hard as shit. It had some weak shit, but Stay Wide Awake is still the best shit ive ever heard in my life. All you wannabe rappers out there. Try and write a song that tells a story and stays on subject with complex rhymes. Em does this in almost every fucking song. But he's on some real movie shit with stay wide awake. DONT BE DUMB.

  • Nate12

Album of the year NO DOUBT! Top tracks: Going through changes 25 for life Space Bounds Almost Famous Not Afraid Cold Wind Blows

  • Meezle

Besides 25 to life and you're never over this is a very forgetful cd. Em shows glimpses of his skill, but for the most part this cd is ok at best. Lyrically he says some really dumb corny punchline. Seems he tried too hard to fit in punchlines when before they just naturally fit. These roundpeg punchlines are wedged into a squarepeg song and end up completely destroying the musical, not rhyming, flow of the song. There were other "ok" songs, but the two that are up to eminem quality are the ones listed above. I expect an eminem cd to either be groundbreaking, or entertaining, this was neither.

  • Rabbiz

Great album. Great verses but shitty hooks, but a good hook don't mean shit without a good verse. Almost famous is just to ill

  • siyaktc

    you're never over!!!

  • tylo

    YYYEEEEAAAAAHHHHH!!!!!

  • tylo

man this albums close to being a classic in my book! 25 to life should b the next single. im going to buy it today

  • bigfan

Eminem is simply a genius, plain and simple. This is the most lyrically powerful and impressive album I've heard in years, and literally brings me back to the good old days of Eminem. Some of the rhymes on this cd leave me in awe. The production is so crazy and new. After downloading the cd early, I had no choice but to purchase this full album on itunes and show Eminem my support with my dollars. Just an incredible piece of work - I don't think there's anyone better in any genre.

  • BigPunisher916

Everybody's complaining about Eminem singing on his shit but if you listen to Eminem he's been doing that since eminem show besides thats all Drake does on just about every song I hear from him oh and Thank Me Later is not better than Recovery that an R&B album that aint Rap

  • bigbolge2

he is only going to get better...that is scary

  • freakthomas0005

    G.O.A.T. PERIOD!

  • fuck these niggers

seriously fuck all you niggers who are just pissed cause the best rapper of all time is white god damn u like gucci and dumb ignorant shit like that better shows you know nothing!

    • FatParamedic

You think black people will ever get over the word 'nigger' ? Maybe in the year 3000 they'll let the slavery shit go. Black people call us crackers but we dont take it as an insult. Why can't 'niggers' just be happy? Don't take offense to this, I'm just saying. The word 'nigger' is...just a word. Ya'll call eachother Nigg-a all the time. Why does the -ER offend you?

    • the fucking poet

that nigger word is so 1850 lmao...find a new insult you sound like a nigger (the dictionary version)

    • meeee

not all black people; or colored people hate eminem you know

  • Bennie Walters

Eminem has always been dope but he really did this album I can't lie yo I'm a real Hip hop head I know my shit if you dont have it go, get it. It has more of a grown up indepht feel to it. If your listening to him for the silly shit he use to be on you may be dissapointed but if you appreciate good music you should be satisfied. If your a real true music lover you got to check this kid out son is pretty dope www.myspace.com/darealmook

  • 23

    This is an absolute Classic.....h
