The relativity between Nas and Marley comes across in this music as well as it does in their message, as both men create a benchmark in their rich careers.

Much has been said about Nas and Damian Marley since they announced their collaborative endeavor as Distant Relatives. While much of it was praise in anticipation, expectations grew to nearly unattainable heights. Both Nas and Jr. Gong are no strangers to this - both sons of famous musicians, both with hits in their history. Each held in high regard within their respective genres, individually, they have managed to forge rich legacies in the streets, while always maintaining a message in the music. With the message behind a project like Distant Relatives - drawing strong parrells between the music of Africa, America and the Carribean, as well as the "one blood" that flows within us all, it would be easy to get too preachy, too informational. Luckily, Damian Marley's powerful production creates the perfect surface for he and Nas to educate and demonstrate their points masterfully.

Lyrically, the album boasts thought-provoking, introspective writing. Distant Relatives exemplifies the type of lyrical prowess both artists have become known for, with songs like "Welcome To Jamrock" and "If I Ruled The World" in their respective catalogs. The Realtives speak on current events (“My Generation” ), their own triumphs through troubles (“Strong Will Continue” ) and worldly issues (“Africa Must Wake Up” ) with the same amount of dexterity, deftly covering topics with skill and insight. They lend words to the power of loyalty (“Friends”), good fortune (“Count Your Blessings”) and religious beliefs (“In His Own Words”), sharing personal touches with every turn. Both take risks, and balance their master-plan, as Nas candidly forecasts the birth of his youngest child. Throughout the album, Nas and Jr. Gong ask the right questions (“Why do we all collide? Why do the young die?”) and provide just enough inspiration in the process (“Only the strong will continue, I know you have it in you”). They offer the right amount of positive influence with a balanced realism, juggling intellect with lived experience. They also manage to do something few traditionally "conscious"-labeled artists pull off; they never sound corny or contrived. Only artists of this stature could pull of this kind of undertaking. With honest emotion, intelligent bars, enjoyable melodies and fluid delivery throughout, this is a benchmark album for Damian and Nas, both as artists, but also as social poetical prophets.

The production on the album shows just how much thought was put into the project, one that also shows range. Where many have forgotten about the lost art of full length album making, this project is best served whole. Whether mixing live instrumentation with cleverly flipped samples (“The Promised Land” ) or borrowing from various cultures and genres, the beats here do not disappoint. Not often thought of as a Hip Hop producer, Bob Marley's youngest son (with some assistance from brother Stephen) assert themselves as versatile studio conductors. It’s refreshing, for instance, to hear tribal drums on “Tribal War” following the up-tempo breakbeats of “As We Enter” . All of this sets the stage for “Strong Will Continue,” which acts as one of the standouts in a heap of uniqye cuts, an anthem that blares with electric guitars, piano keys and a potent drum pattern. They can also mellow things down (“Leaders”), bringing the acoustic guitars out (“Count Your Blessings” and “In His Own Words”) and borrow from various cultures and languages, something heard on chants in “Patience” “Dispear” and “Friends.” They can go from the accessible (“My Generation”) to the gritty (“Nah Mean”) with ease and keep heads nodding throughout, without ever losing the cohesion that makes this a complete album. Like Madlib, Damian Marley has the ability to make his music sound globally relevant. The production matches the lyrical points perfectly, which may be one of the most challenging achievements on such an ambitious project.

From the moment the listener absorbs opening-cut, “As We Enter,” the chemistry is solidified within Distant Relatives as the two trade bars and this collaborative spirit can be seen throughout the album. Nas' and Damian's work together is superb and each guest (Stephen Marley, Joss Stone, Lil Wayne, Dennis Brown and two guest spots from K’naan) fits sensibly with the project's perimeters, ensuring that nothing is done for show and no detail is spared. Front to back, this album provides no filler and boasts substance. In a genre-bending effort, the duo manages to succeed in creating a best of both worlds collaboration without compromising anything - a feat rarely seen. The relativity between Nas and Marley comes across in this music as well as it does in their message, as both men create a benchmark in their rich careers.

Reggae and Hip-Hop are inextricably linked and when two of their accomplished sons came together to create music on the history of humankind and how it ties to the present. The result is an album that transcends genres and artistic themes, it's a piece of history crafted and molded into a cross-genre masterpiece with an unrivaled cross-genre synergy.

EXACTLY @Jus10!!! I STILL can't get enough of This album. As a "white" young lady, I always knew the TRUTH and the message they bring to us. This was the best album of 2010. It's now spring 2013 and I still listen to this like at least once a month. This album is truly one of a kind... Waiting on the sequel!

Watch The Throne is piece of shit. DISTANT RELATIVES RULES. Big up from Paris, France.

  • jg

i didn't see a single negative point in the review..but gave it a 4.5? I think the review was for some reason afraid to simply proclaim this a 5/5 album like it deserves.

  • Star

incredible production, depth, and message. the blend of genres and styles is beautifully worked from beginning to end. every song on this album is worth a listen

  • Martin A. Petersen

This is so far the best album of the year. I've heard every other contender. Cuban Linx pt. 2 was slick. Nineteen-ninety-now is dope. This album is beautiful, amazing. This is the first time I rate an album 5. It might be the last.

  • Mariela

CLASSIC! One of the best albums ive ever heard!

  • Jeunetta

Easily the best hip hop album in a decade!

  • Joey-Bee

Damn this is one fuckin dope album. Haven't heard something with production that great since The Eminem Show

  • NATE

Bottom line, Great album. the more i listen to it the more i like it. "Leaders" is the sickest track, beats and lyrics. Land of Promise, Friends, and Nah Mean round out the top 4 in my opinion. Like the reviewer said its conscious and intelligent with out being corny. it's a great blend of quality Hip Hop and Reggae. Every REAL Hip Hop fan KNOWS Nas is one of the best of all time. Reggae fans knowDamian Marley is one of the best Reggae lyricist ever. They both shine in their own ways on this well put together album.

  • cd

Album is FIRE! Damian and Nas have ignited a fuse. Negative comments are expected whenever someone tries to life social and cultural awareness, haters bring it on, your time is up.

  • RandomFollowa

I love "Count Your Blessings" and "Friends" but I think "Tribes At War", "In His Own Words" and "Leaders" aren't that great either. I'm happy with it though, 4/5. =)

  • Crossfyah

I saw them live, got the album and cant stop listening it.I won't be surprised if it doesn't sell alot because people rarely recognize or buy the truth,a commercial fantasy is way better for mainstream. If you want reality, positive messages and the truth then this is the album to listen. Its a vision of what real music should address. This is a classic but don't take my word, have a LISTEN and not a hear. The message is not gonna be conveyed by just casually hearing or skipping through the album, devote some time to listen and meditate to the topics covered on this album, feel the music and the feelings put into this masterpiece.

  • AZMEXICANO

I must have missed it. Maybe its just me but the only reggae worth a damn is Bob. This sucks and so did that other Damian Marley cd. Some of you fools love Nas so much you will eat up anything he ishes out. Get real. He hasnt been great for years. The Nas era is over. Its been over. The sooner you accept it the sooner you will become a real hip hop fan again.

    • wisdom

you sound like a fool grow up an respect a legend NAS NIGGA DO UR HOMEWORK BEFORE U RUN UR MOUTH

    • Jeunetta

Yeah, it's just you...if you aren't feeling the power of this album, it's because it went over your head, not because this album isn't beyond fire!

    • !!RICKSTAR!!

      God your an idiot

    • ernutis

A real hip hop fan ? What U mean, a fan of Gucci mane or lil wayne, or pop synthetic blueprint 3 ? Come back to reality first, and then try post smth smarter if You think 500 people are stupid

  • PAPASAN

THE ALBUM IS DOPE AND IF YOU RATHER SIT AROUND LISTENING TO "all the way turnt up" THE YOU SUPER WACK SUCKASSSSSSSSSSS!

  • Meezle

Good album, not a huge reggae fan so sometimes i drift off when marleys on. But lets get a few things straight, this is no where near the best album of the last 10 years, if you think so, RUN to the store and buy Food and Liquor. Nas' last cd was much better than this too let alone 5 or 6 before that so that whole best since illmatic stuff needs to stop.

    • Deucie

You have to listen to the lyrics, its not all about the stupid shiit that hip hop puts out nowadays, this is real music you dumbass, Easily the best Hip-Hop album of the year.

    • meezle

Album of the year very possible, but B.O.B's is more entertaining, not better but entertaining.

    • ernutis

Yop, You right my friend, but I think this album have fairly big chances and possibilities to take a title, Album of a Year ;-)

  • SutterKane

I like the album, but damn, when you look at how horrible the sales have been, it makes you think. Getting a positive reaction on the internet is like the kiss of death, lol, almost 600 positive comments and this album aint moving no where near gold, meanwhile, go over Drakes thread and he's got about 1,000 people screaming how bad it sucks and it'll probably be gold in its first week........

    • alban

im pretty late at this , but u know why at drakes album people say it sucks , cause drake , lil wayne fans dont spend time in hip hop dx. only real hip hop heads write comments here , cause drake fans they aint really hip hop fans they are like whos #1 on billboard becomes they idoll . peace

    • QUON

this album had hardly any promotion fakkit. Drakes wack ass has been all over MTV and BET and white people trying to pump this guy up like hes the next best thing thats why hes got alot of comments its all politics bitch. stop being ignorant and realise whats going on in the music industry. Dosn't change a thing because this is still album of the year.

    • Bobby2001

Why do people care so much about sales. If u like the music, u like the music...end off. Stop getting caught up in album sales..thats for usher fans

    • Meezle

i am a self proclaimed wayne hater but must admit that he steps it up when he has to rap with good artist. did the same thing on the recovery too. if only he could be that focused for an entire album

    • bigheartvic

Hate him or Love him he always steps up when hes rapping with the best. uhh if you weather that storm Then that rain bring sun Been a long time comin I know change gone come Man I gotta keep it movin to the beat of my drum Last night I set the future at the feet of my son But they thinkin that my generation gotta die young If we all come together then they cant divide one Don’t worry bout it just be about it Got a message from god heaven too crowded Man held his own ! So lets give him his due respect.

  • savage88

this is hip hop and reggae at its best buy it !!!!

  • ernutis

Best of 2010 with Em, Kanye, Ice Cube, Game and Dre (possibly). Btw mercy for Drake , his album almost flopped.. Just some young 'pop' kids will help him, to get on billboards ") Holla !

  • bram

Almost as good as Illmatic. An instant classic album

  • phraynkh

  • phraynkh

  • troopha

damian smooth but lyrical the best lyrisist of our generation nas one of the best but damian is in another class infact a different school

  • OTHERSIDE

STILL album of the year to me.

  • Sunspect

No doubt, that this album deserves 5 stars

  • LIFE ACCORDIN' TO DUTCH

THIS ALBUM HAS SOME OF THE BEST PRODUCTION NAS HAS GOTTEN TO RAP ON IN RECENT MEMORY...AND WITH THAT SAID HE SOUNDS LIKE A BACKGROUND RAPPER...DAMIEN MARLEY OUTSHINES THIS MAN ON EVERY TRACK..NAS IS NO COMPLEMENT TO THE MELODIES AT ALL..NOT EVEN HATIN..THIS IS TRUTH...DAMIEN MARLEY DID HIS THING...NAS DID NOT..MATTER OF FACT..WHAT IS NAS THING

    • FUCK YOU NAS HATER

how can you say htis when NAS goes hard on most of the tracks. did you listen to strong will continue.. his last verso is so legit..

  • isreal

10 and I am goin on a limb and say its the best album of the last 10 years. I like the review but it was not much mention of Nas completely destroying every verse he is on.. also the subject of Africa is very important that not many people talk about. hip Hop is also supposed to infom those who dont have acess to info and this album does that. Not many know or even care about whats goin on in the muthaland but they bring the issue to the light without it being boring. Its not a hip hop album but just music and compared to the album that we created to make change in the world this is mos def up there. Peace

  • Jersey Finest Kings

thank you both Nas & Damien

  • randdddyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

a god damn classic!! AOTY so far!! YOUNG MONEY AND LIL WAYNE = A BUNCH OF TALENTLESS RETARDS!!!

    • NY+

Nah, Wayne wrote a perfect verse. You got to be honest, if you really listen to it and what the song is about, he even takes great subliminal shots at politicians, bible-thumpers, etc. He did his thing, I like when he actually talks about something interesting.

    • OTHERSIDE

wayne can't make classic albums like this. most overrated rapper in hip hop history

    • randdddyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

his incoherent ass should have never been on the album!!! he really drags that song down and the thing is that is probably the best, hahaha im gonna to laugh at when im about to say a verse, if yall wanna call it that, of his life.

    • silentacapella

ironically, lil wayne is on the album.

    • Jersey Finest Kings

      i co-sign that.

  • muzikCALI

Great muzik.. my opinion, NAS' best work since ILLMATIC

    • muzikCALI

Yes, I'm serious.. NAS has put out great shii since Illmatic. But to ME this is a ClassicAlbum.I can't see any of his other albums as well rounded as this album from front to back..

    • Meezle

his best album since illmatic? Seriously?

    • bigheartvic

What kid ur crazy. Their should be no more said about that stupid comment about Nas but let me try to educate you and every other person who seems to feel the same a little bit about how great hes been his entire career.Common ground-Illmatic 3rd album(redone after being bootlegged) Commercial Success-I Am....Big Things, Favor for Favor, Nas is Like, Undying Love just to name a few(will admit one of my fav albums all time) Oshit...what! Took Jay Z down with this one-StillMatic....What Goes Around(poison), Rewind, One Mic, Smokin just 1/2 fraction of the good songs on that one. Most Underated Nas Album-God Son..I can, Get Down,Heaven, Warrior Song..omg gotta listen to this one. Wow this album really doesnt come close to the last albums Ive talked about but Untitled had some good songs on it Hero, Sly Fox, Ni**er stayed on point about what he was trying to get at. And Now Distant Relatives(which is been in the making quite for some time) Hey your right he hasnt did shit since 1993. I just want to say I respect your opinion but please go play the tape back. For all those who hate to love Nas.

    • Jenkinz

I have to agree. Not that Nas hasn't put out anything good since Illmatic, but this is the first album to measure up to it. Very few people in Hip Hop can form a duo and have legendary chemistry, Method Man & Redman, Daz & Kurupt, Jay-Z & R. Kelly (Just kidding on that one). Leave it to Nas to drop solid flows with substance...

  • bigsavage88

great new album for music period , not just hip hop . Nas is deep and Marley is toooooooooo smooth and deep too . Africa wake up tha bomb

  • NaS#1FaN

CLASSIC. I bought it because of NaS but I bump it because of Damian. They both brought it! I saw them in concert and it was f'n epic! Only the strong will continue!

  • dara

I believe that this album is worthy of a Grammy...

  • BAWSE2ULOOKOUTS

    @FATSTACK1 I CUNCUR MY G! NAS =G.O.A.T.

  • DreamJones

This Joint is Classic i don't know how i did not get all XXXXX's. This has to be one of Nas greatest albums and i have every single one. The joint is deep it makes you think and the beats are sick well it bang in the streets no because street dudes wont pay attention. But this is probably one of the best albums in years. This joint is timeless to bad it wont get the credit its due. WAKE UPPPPPPPP

  • FrostyTheSnowMan

Dope album. Once again Nas is ILLMATIC! Beats aren't those head noddin, gritty beats that I like, but they're still silky smooth with alot of live instruments. The content is deep. Do yourself a favor and cop this album. Booyakasha!

  • MightyMike27

    EPIC!! Genius!! CLassiC!!

  • Hurrikanrana

Great Album! No bad songs, all songs are lyrical and musical masterpieces. When I heard about this album first time I thought that two geniuses of two great genres in one album. Real shit!

  • NY+

Beautiful album. Wonderful Production. Awesome execution. Great concept. It's amazing this kind of album would be produced by major artists with industry the way it is. Truly revolutionary piece of music. Soul gripping. Heartfelt. Timeless. *CLASSIC. *Never have I used that loosely.

    • Islandstylee

I'm not a rap fan; however this album made me love hip hop style. I'm a huge damian marley's fan, and this master piece sold me every step of the way. Just loving this duo. But am skeptical about them getting a grammy, I don't think mainstream listeners are into such positive vibes. They enjoy those aggressive artists who disrespect women and talk about how much money, fame, fortune they have. This is classic and real music for a change; loving every song!!!!!

  • ernutis

Interesting what are the sales in first week of This Classic :} Hope this duo, won't be only nominated in grammys...

  • Curtj5

Seriously. Damian brought the heat. Nas ain't too bad himself.

  • alban

http://prhiphopstation.listen2myradio.com/ only TRUE HIP HOP RADIO PLS VISIT REALLY GOOD HIP HOP SONGS , NO LIL WAYNES SOULJA BOYS COMMERCIAL SHIT !!! 24/7

  • Beasley

Bought it Saturday and haven't stopped listening since. It's been a while since I said that. This will be a certified classic (lasting) This album is simply incredible, and I don't use that word lightly. Nas is top form, Jr sounds perfect. Inspirational, positive music that also entertains! Sheet even Lil Wayne did his thing

  • blackirish

this album is like viagra came to save hip hop.

  • sun_god7

Bought the real album last week.

  • sun_god7

Still on rotation after 4 weeks in my player.

    • wapitch

4 weeks huh. i thought it came out the past week. Have u bought the album though? I speak cuz i did buy that classic

  • dadonjuan

it's a 5 bitch. despite what NAS recently stated in the Wall St. Journal. HIP HOP IS STILL DEAD, but albums like this will reincarnate it

  • dadonjuan

"patience" is the shit. i love this album. first real hip hop album in a while. none of that stupid ass whiteboy suburbs BULLSHIT!!

  • GODDS SON

NAS spat so much fire he burnt the mic killed the mic ! hes bringing hip hop back from the grave !

  • g$

classic. great, complete album from beginning to end. this album cant even ne friggin nitpicked. its as close to hiphop perfection as possible.

  • Lima

Damian Marley stole the show for me. I'm surprised as hell at how talented this guy is.

  • peter piper

Great album. Gets better with each listen.

  • Stilo

I love how Damian goes "boom!" before he spits all the time haha, like rappers say "uh..." Damian holds down the beats and melodies, but when he wants to rhyme the man can spit. it just sounds a lil different to us who aren't jamaican or don't listen to dancehall/reggae yea that "Marley" legacy aint goin away anytime soon if Damian's gonna be bringin it like this. And i think Nas was spittin way more energized and inspired than he was on Untitled. "and all yall know I'm on my, war paint on my face shit, my 9mm on my waist shit" !! At this point, Nas is probably the greatest to ever touch the mic. 5/5 great album, the next generation will certainly call it a classic if we don't

  • berniminge

Amazing album. Makes you love hip hop again. Its not about bling or album sales with this one. This is what hip hop should be about. Its shocking to say alot of people were not expecting this to be as good because its not about drugs, fast cars, and faster women. Its hope through the struggle and I admire Nas and Damian Marley for this I hope this opens the eyes of hip hop and show us we can be positive and stand up and be together. Thanks Nas and Marley for a GREAT album. Please do another one PLEASE

  • BIGSAVAGE88

  • blackula

These guys were worth the wait and the hype. Both brought it! You won't find another album out there this year sounding like this. The lyrical content is on a different plane. Distant Relatives will be hard to top.

  • subz

what an album!!!, best collabo album i have heard in years, this will be a classic trust me, every song is top, as most people said, when i bought the album i didnt know what to expect, i was truley blown away, lyrics are powerful, and its very inspritional, very thought provoking. i truley love the whole album, i think this album will change music a bit, they kept in real, just flipping good music, for me this is a classic. Very soon you all gonna here more of the songs on the radio, the way the added the reggae, african drums and hip hop is beautiful, really heavy music, this will get a grammy.

  • DJ Werd

im seriously dissapointed, i love marley and nas and the few leaks i heard. so when i got the album i was expecting to be blown away. not even close. half of the songs are weak and lack any type of lyricism, from both of them. 5 solid songs, and the rest could of been replaced. nas was the worst part of the album with no decent lines in the whole thing. the 2 stephen marley produced tracks were brutal and should have been cut. wait for j cole, madvillain, the roots, or even drakes new album because this is worth buying

    • Yero

DJ Weirdo what the f**k are you talkin about? Do you just want some attention so you put a hating as comment up? Kill yo self sucka. This album is the best album to came out in 2010 thus far. It has substance, diversity and is not the cookie-cut sound you hear in today's music. This album gave me a sense of pride for African Heritage....you prolly can't relate. #no_suckas_allowed

    • ;;;;;;

      dj werd must be retarted

    • Nigga, you're a Herb.

WACK. You sure you're name ain't DJ HERB because that comment made you sound like one. Either that or you're smoking too much of it. ESPECIALLY after you still gave it a 4 (which means it's at least a "B" effort) SMH @ the confused niggas out there.

  • JIZZMAN101

BEST MOTHERFUCKING ALBUM OF ALL THE MOTHERFUCKING

  • S.B.

Finally a good full album, thought out the whole way through! I even already had high hopes for this one! Bought it the day after release, and if you were on the fence, GO BUY IT, there's over 500 other people already who have said it's crazy. The biggest thing for me with this record is that it's REAL. Nas and Damian are true artists, no nonsense filler, real topics and we still get awesome lyrical flow. This is bound to be a classic. Look what you've done now Nas...raised the bar for the future with collaborations. This album has such a nice sound to it, props to Damian for producing most of it - man I've gotta study how he does it...

  • rbg warrior

This Album blew me away!!!! matter of fact, Reflection Eternal cd is a banger too....damn, it's been a while since i brought two fresh cds like these on the same day.....yes! great day for hip hop.

    • thizzle dance

yea RPM is dope. idk why Talib and Hi-Tek wanted to release it the same day as such an anticipated Nas/Damian album... I've heard em both entirely, but honestly RPM has been put on the back burner cuz I can't stop playin Distant Relatives. and all the buzz went to Distant Relatives.. Reflection Eternal woulda done better droppin a different day. I will say that the outro of RPM is prety ill

  • C-ARSON

Just bought this album this afternoon and I am blown away. Didn't really know what to expect but this will be on in my player for at least weeks probably months. First true classic in years..............And I listen to everything and buy most great albums, simply incredible. Nas just bodies all verses and Damian holds the harmonies down. A complete album. I still see the youngings hatin on this cuz of the mellow vibe but they will learn to love it or die hating.

  • Indiemuzik

Bad News....apparently when you google "Distant Relatives", the first suggestion you're given is "Distant Relatives Torrent", which means hundreds of thousands of people maybe even millions are downloading the entire album. Sorry Nas, sorry Damian, and most of all...Sorry Africa!

    • Indiemuzik

@ZLEARD & B HAZE But in this case we're talking about an album where atleast 90% of the people who have it got it for free, which in my opinion is overkill.

    • b haze

your dumb dude this album didn't leak, they leaked 3 songs off the album themselves, thats it.

    • african herbsman

when you google distane relatives the first thing that pops up is www.distantrelatives.com the website that they set up just for this album but yeah more people are probably searching for the torrent cuz they dont wanna support real music

    • zleard

you're dumb dude. every album has torrents for it.. and almost every album leaks before the release date... just like this one.

  • nasislike

Now I’m a fan of both, but let’s be real here: why Jay-Z is doing songs like “On To the Next” with Swiss beatz, Nas is doing albums like Ni**er and this with Damien Malrey? LOL! Now I see the difference between and trend hopper and a revolutionary. Nas=Marvin Gaye Jay-Z=Elvis

    • NAs/Kiss

That's a huge comment, true on crazy levels. I'm a big fan of both genres but i haven't listened to Damien extensively as Nas so I didn't know what to expect. The first night i listened t this I don't think I slept. Then I recommended to so many ppl I lost count. I am practically begging ppl to Listen @ this point. his is A great followup to Jamrock and Nigger. Listen! Of course there are going to be ppl who cant comprehend = misunderstood = hate. Ez. For the record Wayne had a good verse. The production was impressive. I mean this is a revolutionary album.

  • T double

It's a good album. Quality music thru and thru. Much better than most albums released so far this year. It is not a great album. There are no timeless classics in it. There are just good quality songs. Welcome to Jamrock had many more hits and banging tracks than Distant Relatives. I Was Written had many better songs and beats than this album. Even still, this is the best album released this year.

    • chuck chizzle

props for your rating. i completely agree that it IS a good album. but a 4 or 5 rating should be reserved for CLASSIC type material ONLY.

  • BRAZILLLLLLLLLLLL

GOD BLESS THIS ALBUM AND EVEN THOUGH BEING ANOTHER FAN IM VERY HAPPY THAT EVERYONE ELSE HAS LOVED THIS ALBUM .. TRULLY GREAT ALBUM ..A CLASSIC .. WHEN I HEARD OF IT I SAID ... • Gary

I cannot belive how good this album is.. I put it on my ipod and have not listen to any other music since this came out. CLASSIC period... every song is detailed and a true picture of what real hip-hop is all about. Fuck that garbage radio/pop hip hop. It will never live up to the power on Classic real hip hop. Good looks Jr Gong & Nas for making hip hop shine again...

  • AJScarface

    Well put together Album!

  • QUEEN REAL (SoSweet)

Love what i've heard so far, “Patience” is my favorite. Nas & Damien layed down some solid work that's filled with realness, positivitey, & knowledge all laced with beautiful music. Best I've heard this year.....

  • excaliber

one of the best albums i have ever heard.

  • miguel Guttierres

This album is insane. Bought this and Revolutions Per Minute yesterday, but RPM is going to have to wait for a little bit. I can't stop listening to this album. I swear, this better win a Grammy, but those lame-asses are probably going to hand it to Drake or some other mediocre artist.

  • Gamaliyel

I had to go to my 2nd job, and on the way there I realized I left my head phones at home. So I went to electronic express on the way to work to get some more head phones because I was to far away from the pad, and all they had were some $30 head phones so you know I had to buy them, at first I thought I wasted my $ but the album changed my mind. I could not wait till I got back home to listen to it so I bought the head phones and it was worth it because this album is fullfilling real hip hop naw fuck that real music still does exist go support distant relatives. Nas is STILL ILLmatic

  • DougEstylz

If this is not a instant classic, i wonder which album HIPHOP DX will next rate as 5/5? Failing to give this 5/5 makes your reviews NULL and VOID, you lack the testicular fortitude to submit to real music!!!!!! Reviews from magazines like this(online or print) is one of the reasons HIP HOP is dead. HIP HOP is expanding but it would appear that you are determind to restrict its growth. I would hate to listen to tracks on your mp3 player!!!!!!!!! Get behind real music or you will one day be left behind as real hiphop will survive!!!!

  • CeasThaGIANT

HONESTLY THE LAST ALBUM I HEARD THAT EVEN CAME CLOSE TO THIS WAS DEAD PREZ "LET'S GET FREE" ALBUM AFTER THAT.....NO ALBUM HAS CAME CLOSE TO THE LEVEL OF CONTENT, THE PRODUCTION, OR EVEN THE CREATIVITY BEHIND THIS ALBUM. I FEEL SO PROUD THAT NAS AND DAMIAN PUT THIS "TYPE" OF ALBUM OUT. THIS ALBUM HAS BEEN ON HEAVY REPEAT. FROM TRACK 1-14 THIS A CLASSIC ALBUM, IT'S TOO SERIOUS TO EVEN PUT IT IN THE CLASS OF HIP HOP OR REGGAE, HANDS DOWN THE BEST ALBUM OF THE YEAR. *AND IF MTV OR THE GRAMMYS SNUB THEM ON A NOMINATION, KANYE BETTA DO A FUCKIN NOSE DIVE ON THAT STAGE*

    • miguel Guttierres

Alright, your album was good, I'ma let you finish, but Distant Relatives is one of the greatest albums of all time! One of the greatest albums of all time... *shrugs, walks off stage*

  • Mel991

This album is completely amazing. It has blends of reggae, Hip-Hop, and Afro-beat, but has a real soulful groove. I could not stop listening to the album. It is so inspiring and ingenious. Distant Relatives is one of a kind! God bless Nas & Damian Marley!

  • Its Um

NO WEAK SHIT HERE!! Even the mellow tracks are bangin', and not many albums can do that either, the hooks are very catchy either one can be a single. Yes believe us this time when we say THIS IS CLASSIC!

  • just a fan

This is the greatest album that I ever heard So unselfish music Heil to the NAS & DAMIAN MARLEY

  • InterMIlan

Really nothing left to say that hasn't already been said. Album of the year. For me, album of the decade. No fillers, no bullshit. JUST HIP HOP. A beautiful piece of art. Not only the music, but the entire package. Artwork, inserts, even the artwork on the CD itself. This is not just a CD. This is a representation of multiple forms of art which will allude to all of your senses. Just buy the CD. Simple. Support REAL MUSIC.

  • deathpoem

THIS SHIT BETTER GET A GRAMMY, THIS IS THE BEST NON GIMMICKY HIP HOP ALBUM OF THE YEAR. NAS AND DAMIAN MARLEY DROPPED A GEM ON EM!!

  • itsKgosi

I dont ever see any other rapper making an album like this. JayZ would never dare make an album like this cause he would risk not making money, even with all the money he has already. So i definitely respect nas and damian for creating this project

  • Joe-G

    Classic Album, open your minds........

  • kpanilaryea28

    fiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiire!!!

  • Stromya 2

classic... bought this album soon as it came out in UK, classic. hate lil wayne, but even he shines on this album. nearly every song on this album is amazing. this is what hip hop is missing, positivity, and new and alternative styles. patience is too nice, damian's verses go hard, thought just begn was gonna be song of the year... dont know now? also in strong will continue, is the UK version different to the US? NaS has a different verse at the end, where he talks about ex's and cheating and being an honest man, that verse is too sick

  • TheSecondComing

Bought my copy at Best Buy earlier today, and keeping it in the package. Should go buy another one later this week so I can actually peak inside haha.

  • ouchie BANG

  • Abdinasir Mohamed

This album is a MASTERPIECE, It's like Michael Angelo's Mona Lisa. Word bro, that's what I feel. Everyone came hard on this. Wayne even went in on some conscience shit and he doesn't usually do that. So all you bloggers get off the computer and COP THAT!

  • AKAKAK

One thing I like so much is that, at least on first listen, the album comes off as empowering, but not preachy at all. they celebrate all the rich history and pride of Africa that already exists.

  • digga

one of the greatest albums i ever heard. the production was superb.the lyrics is better than the production.this cd is mad epic.this cd could've easily been wack because it's so ambitious but it didn't come off wack.nas still got it and damian wraps his vocals around every track.warning to mad people who haven't listened to it yet:the album isn't hip hop essentially.it's very different.something more than hip hop.i can't explain it better.when u hear the cd,you'll understand.i loved the whole album.trust me,a fan of great music, this is worth every dollar in your pocket.watch.it's one of those album where people gonna be bitin off it.if u start hearin african beats anddrums on a track, you'll know. p.s. if u hear some jerkoff named can't...ban...duke...boy say shit about it,don't listen to him,he's always hatin.he does that shit to get people riled up.just ignore everything he says.don't even waste your mind or a second commenting on anything he says

Album changed my life for the better. Classic...Legendary...all words that can be used to describe it. Damian represented us Jamaicans on a grand global scale with the prowess of his father. Amazing. Nas spat some of the verses that reminded me of what helped to make him one of my favourite rappers of all time. All the features pull through very well. The production is breathtaking. It Just SICK lol. Mad Ratings. Bless.

  • MuddyBoots

This is the kinda songs that teaches and gives us knowledge. Though Lil'Wayne wasn't necessary. He's the new generation but the album doesn't need the stunt. Nas + Marley...nuff said

    • hotshitson

Yo, i hate lil wayne most of the time, but he came real correct on that track, it was def not a stunt west up www.myspace.com/thafiends

  • big braveheart

Fantastic album! Really good stuff, quite possibly a 4.5 going on 5 but an amazing collaboration of two great artists, Nas represnting Hip-Hop and Damien Marley doing the reggae thing and this merges beautifully, Bob would be proud! The music produced by Damien is very soulful, melodic and epic and helps give the songs that little extra. Great work dudes!! Too many great songs to name just a few.

  • SilkCityP

The Greatest Hip Hop songwriter of all time + The son of a revolutionary = Distant Relatives... I honestly didn't think I would like the album due to the base of album being focused so much on Africa, but they pulled it off bigtime! This joint has been staying on repeat since I heard it in full! Nas is sick with it!!!

  • BEINHONEST

i think this album is bad i heard all of the songs on it and i didn't like it it is not best album of 2010 and plus im not coming back here so if you wanna to comment about me or somthen all i gotta say fuuuuck you i swear on my life that i can beat any person in this world bye !!!

  • e385813

    illest album of 2010!!!

  • Beyond Ill

Distant Relatives really surprised me!!!!! I didnt expect that this rap/raggae fusion would work... But! After i heard the bootlegged album.... im totally blown away by this! This is what we call a "Musical Wonder"! in summary, rich beats mixed with briliant lyrics, plus its extensive content and message... Damn this is hard!!! Im gonna cop this album for sure!!! Havent heard anything this good in a year!!!Worth every cent!

  • TheBigD

FUCKING AMAZING CANT DESCRIBE!! IM PICKING IT UP IN 5 DAYS :D this is what music is about!!!

  • sashaj

Let me start by saying I am by no means a big Nas fan...I like some songs off a few albums here and there and his only album i keep on rotation is Illmatic...Im pretty young (18) but i can still appreciate some of what Nas does... But this album is fire Nah Mean is one of the best songs I've heard in the past few years and My Generation is hot although the chorus is beyond corny the MC's provide very nice verses especially Lil Wayne I have to say I'm happy he's on this album..I dont know if I could say this album is classic but it is better than any album that has been released since OB4CL2

  • Mr.Crackee

heard the leak, ima cop this first thing tuesday. idk about classic yet, lets see how well i like this album in 5 years.

  • slimzBANGER

a classic fuck what yall niggaz sayin icant stop listenin to this shit!!!!!!im in love!!!yeah i said it inlove!!!!!

  • westpac08

one word can describe this album....................... DOPE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • relativity at best

Album is so dope. On the bonus track, ancient people, legendary Nas raps This is rock & roll meets Aristotle I fly those G-5s thru the sky

    • relativity at best

It's high tunes exclusive. Nas raps over a reggae beat but his flow is just fantastic. Nas gotta be the illest GOAT.

    • Mr.Crackee

is the bonus track on the CD or is it some kind of itunes exclusive?

  • gangstarrrrrrr

I downloaded it (for free) last week before it was released and after giving it 20+ listens I think this album is 5* and ive just ordered it from Amazon. I really hope this sells well...

  • **********

"What we’re about to do right now is go back. Back to a time when rap’s greatest hits were created in basement soundrooms, not corporate boardrooms. When dancehall and hip hop music was all about moving the crowd not “moving units.” Before Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley and Nasty Nasir Jones first began trodding the long and winding “Road to Zion.” The artists’ first collaboration went so well that they decided to do a full album together, and that album is is an album created by two serious artists to explore and celebrate the correlations and deep-rooted connections between reggae and hip hop, tracing both sounds back to the African motherland that is both the cradle of humanity and the wellspring of mankind’s music. " - off the Distant Relatives website

  • cookie monsta

Anyone who thought this was going to be Nas featuring Damian Marley will be surprised. I think it's a pretty balanced collaboration, but if anything it sounds more like Damian Marley featuring Nas, just cuz Damian is producing and his background is more reggae than hiphop. Monumental collaboration. Clearly put time and thought into making this thing right and it came out better than I expected. They made something original here. I mean if you heard some of these tracks outta the blue you wouldn't even know what genre to call it. 5/5

  • Sickness

Great Album Havent heard an album That Good In Ages

  • the man.

Nas is laughing at the critics and doubters. And Damian is fuckin crazy! on production and on the mic

  • Mattweezy

To be honest, its one of the best albums ever...why didnt they give it a full 5? Nas and Damian kill it, the guest spots are good, the album is full of SOUL.....way better than i expected!

  • nixnox

  • Ventu

Easily the best album of da year imo.

  • TheSecondComing

With so many of us commenting on the album, I too hope we also go in droves to purchase this when it drops on Tuesday. Not only because it's a solid release featuring two of today's most trust ambassadors of music, but also to show the world that people do care about music with substance.

  • ____--0-

Name another rapper than could master all these crazy, different Damian beats....

    • digga

none.u can tell his flow is superior because i tried freestylin on the end break of as we enter and i couldn't.nas has a excellent flow on that joint.

  • #1nasfan

I haven't heard the album yet, but I'm excited about the reviews and from reading what you all are writing. I'm looking forward to copping it on May 18th. :)

  • thizzle dance

"We really should be brothers united against the industry The African diaspora is scattered with shattered history the game missin me, rappers so repetitive although I aint your blood or your cuz it's all relative" -Talib Kweli off Revolutions Per Minute album which drops the same day as Distant Relatives. They shoulda linked up.

  • lo godfather

This is what we need as real music lovers, to get away from that electro pop for while!!

  • a pimp named slickback.

yall know how many Marleys there are running around? theres like 10, from a few different women. Bob apparently never heard of a condom.... and they almost all try to make music, but really Damian has been the only one to stand out, he's the youngest too so he grew up on hiphop as well as reggae/dancehall. Some of em make mediocre reggae music and get by on their last name, but Damian has proven to be a serious and original musician. cop his first album 'Halfway Tree' 5/5 for Distant Relatives

    • yard_warrior

@ A PIMP NAMED SLICKBACK, Ur rite about some of marleys kids making a lot of mediocre music and Jr Gong being the best, but please dont sleep on Stephen. Ur wrong about HalfWay Tree" being his 1st album, its Mr Marley. I am a huge Jr Gong fan who actually lives in JA. Bless

    • a pimp named slickback.

I listened to Ziggy and Stephen a while back , but their music didn't keep my attention. I've been hooked on Damian for years though. I know Ziggy and Stephen have been successful, i just wasn't impressed with much of their music, wasn't bringin anything new to the table. just my opinion.

    • MYLIE

all the Marley children have PROVEN they have there own sound and own unique voice. Bob blessed them with that. Ziggy and Stephan have one sold millions, won countless awards around the world they have been spreading Bob's message for years even when Damian was a youngin. I get your facts right before you try and criticize.

  • buss

FIRSTLY!! anyone under the age of 20 cannot even make a single argument about what hip hop really is!! as i always tell the "rookies" who listen to the 'new rap crap' that exists today, go back and cop ILLAMTIC by Nas, ALL FOR ONE by Brand Nubian, ANY NWA, ICE CUBE, GANGSTARR, BDP or ANY albums before the year you were born and THEN come and tell me shit!! what the hell is this crap they play nowadays? Old schoolers remember when NAS ruled rap! one of the ONLY albums to ever get a 5 mics in source, SHIT! how can i forget TRIBE? This Nas/Damian album is a return to the days when CLASSICS ruled rap and the cd you bought back then had more than 10 songs out of 15 that really sounded good. Not like now where you have 5 or less songs that sound aight!! As Ice Cube said BOW DOWN!! to the real sounds of RAP! can't wait for Reflection Eternal either!! CLASSIC hip hop music!!

  • nanofcb

nas is one of the fewest 90s MCs that u know that u can't be desapointed by any of his albums. NAS is King & marley marl did a great job on this, the production is awesome, deep lyrics , in 2 words : REAL HIPHOP

  • saigon187

  • ebo

love this .... everyone needs this ....

  • summer Brown

one of the dopest albums ever. Happily, the hype is true, its everything I hoped it could be. Dope beats, soul, deep, lyrics n powerful messages. I love love love it. A breath of fresh air in this lack luster music game.

  • wolfman

i think it's funny, the only people who are hating the album are "new-age" hip-pop kids. see, when you're a kid, you enjoy shit that lacks any substance. positive influences are not what you like, cause your friends dont like it. it's not cool to support a movement greater than your cool-ass pair of shades. on that note, look at the growth from nas. a serious street-lyricist, heavy into the thug life mentality comes out with this spiritual album which supports a message more than a rap. it truly is a GREAT album,

  • james-d

album sucks man-dingo weak ass effort....step ur game up nas, wayne and drake whoopin ur ass

    • a pimp named slickback.

thank god Game wasn't on this album. nothin against Game but he doesn't belong here

    • james d

james d how old are you fuckin dweeb

    • bws soldier

fuck wayne and drake, i wanna know why game wasnt on this album! he killed it with the letter to the king track. he go hard on those 'dark' tracks, he definately inspires nas and makes him up his game

  • Yung Trae

One of the few albums ill be sure to buy this year

  • gozomo33

greatly exceeded my mediocre expectations. nas and damian clearly put a lot of time, thought, and effort into this project. just wish meth ghost and rae had done the same for wu massacre...

  • a pimp named slickback.

  • NaS#1FaN

May 18th, the official day of the return of true hip-hop! Revolutions Per Minute by Reflection Eternal and of course Distant Relatives! HIP-HOP FOREVER!

  • YoungChamp

This album is truly extraordinary, I expected maybe 5 tracks to be head bangers, not saying that i thought it was gone be wack, but rarely do albums nowadays live up to the hype as this one does. A classic, no but definitely deserves grammy nods to say the least. Im a diehard nas fan, so i was excited and Skeptic at the same time when i heard he was doing a cd with damian marley. First the production goes beyond expectations jr gong and stephen put it down, and it's Amplified by Nas's lyrics, whose more on his stillmatic flow rather than Nastradamus. Tribal war is my favorite track, the drums are spectacular and k'naan murders his verse. Friends will have you questioning your loyalty from your friends but enjoying none the least. My generation is a song that anybody can feel and lil wayne shows up for once with a decent part, and joss stone adds class. Nas's ending verse on "Strong will continue" is pure fire, addressing his recent struggles with his ex wife kelis and seeing his newborn. But not to draw attention from Mr. Marley whose thought provoking verse fuses so well with god's son. But most importantly none of the tracks deserve to be skipped. and that's odd for any album yet a collaborative album these days. In conclusion This album is great and i expect critical acclaim to come from this.

  • LamarMaticc

It's definately not a 5, but it's still a really good listen. Haven't listened to many albums this year (not nearly as much as in '09 by this time) but so far - album of the year.

  • A4L

I hope most of the people who say "bought it", mean they have reserved it already. Otherwise they are all cats. In Germany It Comes out on May 14th, will have it tommorrow :-)

  • open ears / open mind

I don't get how cats on here are saying they already bought it.... I thought it doesn't come out until May 18th. You dudes buying bootleg shit or something?

  • Kay W

Its been a while since I heard a dope album , this is definetly one , I hope to hear more shit from them collaberating in the future

  • ZOPHIM

ONE OF THE REALEST ALBUM'S I'VE HEARD IN A DECADE! THERE IS NO TALK ABOUT DRUGS OR BLING JUST REVOLUTIONARY NAMES AND GUNS WITH MENTAL FORTITUDE. REAL LIFE ISSUES WITH SOLUTIONS! THIS IS ALBUM OF THE YEAR BUT IT MAY NOT MAKE IT THAT FAR - WHY? DIAL IN MTV OR VH1 NO ONE IS ADVERTISING THIS RECORD -- VERY SAD! ALSO, IT PERTURBS ME THAT THE ENTIRE ALBUM HAS BEEN LEAKED! IT ONLY MEANS THAT SOME BIG PEOPLE IN SMALL MENTAL PLACES IS STRATEGICALLY PLANNING NAS'S DOWNFALL! THE PROBLEM IS THAT NAS CONTINUES TO DROP EPICS SO IN REGARDS IT WILL SELL NEVER FAIL BUT IT WON'T GO DIAMOND EITHER, FOR THE SIMPLE FACT THAT MOST PEOPLE WHO DOWNLOAD DON'T ALSO GO OUT AND BUY THE ALBUM.

  • Murs4President

Really want to give this 4.5 stars but i can't and no way should it be in the 5* club. Tight album, something different but not a classic. Get albums on free d/l and then go cop them when they're out http://www.fan2band.com/dl/smcrecordings/murs9thwonder/238327_3882_98_4814

  • Dj Lexx

Every track off of this album has been fire so far.... Its good music, a good message and great artists... the collaboration is absolutely perfect. I see we have a few haters in here who are saying its garbage and its beyond me that you can still have such ignorance. This album is everything that everybody has been waiting for. The album boasts substance and not just cookie-cutter radio bs, it has production that sounds like NOTHING out right now. Is it a classic? If this isnt a classic then we will never see another classic in Hip Hop... I stand by that because this album breaks barriers and we dont have albums that come out pushing the envelope like this. The way the music bumps hard is just simply unheard of in 2010.... No album shall compare to this for a long time... enough said..

  • ASEE

Solid, solid effort from the duo. Do I think it's a classic? I can't say so, but it's definitely one of the few album we'll be talking about all year.

  • rebel2society

Gotta have this when it drops. this is epic music right here.. I don't know how else to describe it. As a fan of hip hop music it would be nice to see these two reach the commercial success this album SHOULD garner. I'm happy just knowing they lived up to the expectations though.

  • philips

    • Etherboy2323

What the fuck are you talkin about? This album is dope as fuck! Nas and Damien sound so nice together. How could anyone listen to this and not like it? Find a different genre if you don't like this. Reggae and rap together sound great!

My opinion: dis album is great and this Guys are not to be compared with any artist, they are on their own level...have their own motives; pass a message thru good music. I love the tracks am having a personal connection with "PATIENCE" track its really tot-provoking...it makes me wanna start writing again...mehn can't wait to cop dis album(since last year July). Lets support the album, artists and the movement...and they shld bring their tour to Africa... Plus Fuck Kelis! for all i care and may her "flesh tone " album flop..Beatch

  • L.A. Finest

Well written but.... c'mon DX, give them the 5/5.. .Look, the first reviews out there gave them also a full rating .... http://planetill.com/2010/05/album-review-nas-damian-marley-distant-relatives/ http://beat-town.com/2010/05/08/nas-damian-marley-distant-relatives/ the last one is probably from russia or smthing. classic LP guys!!!!!! Reconsider the rating!

  • YoungHback

At first i really wasnt thinking too highly of this project because collaborations hardly ever work out, but after reading this i actually do wanna hear it and see now. Nas is and will always be a great lyricist its just his production isnt always good maybe Marley helped him out this time with some great beats and lyrics to complement his style better.

  • stephen4

Now that I've actually listened to the entire album, unlike most people here, I can rate it.

    • ChuppsD

4real i'm positive alot haven't listened to it. Heart it like 9x over now, 4.5 is just, and to be honest, 4.5 is classic, i havent heard an album you could call 5 stars without dick riding. But as a body of work, this albums just brilliant, only 1 song let me down but even that was a 3/5, majority of the tracks were 5/5 or 4.5/5.

    • lDNiCEl32

your a fag smh im pretty sure everyone here has listened to the album its 5 star material nas is back on his shit nd damian marley is jus sick not one track on the album has to be skipped instant classic

    • mannyb

Get off your high horse. you dont know who has or hasnt listened. Fucking Herb

  • OG-FI

Absolutely one of the best albums this years, easily. Or the best. One of the albums, that you can just listen from the beginning to end, no need to skip songs.. That doesn't happen too often.. This album deserves to win the Grammys, for sure!

  • TheSecondComing

Won't rate yet but I've given it a few spins. I'm enjoying the vibe of the whole album, and it's fucking awesome to hear music with potent substance and relevant appeal at the same time.

  • cOoLaSsNiJa4lIFe

    good shit

  • solarwind

can't wait for this. hip hop is so back in '10

  • LINO

Instant CLASSIC, no one will top this in 2010

  • BAM12393

Listen, no matter what people rate this album now, 10-15 years from now this sh*t is going to be a classic. Wait until the time passes and let's see what albums released this decade are remembered and considered great. DISTANT RELATIVES!

  • David G

    Distant Relitaves>>>>> Bp3

  • C-ARSON

DAMN 252 COMMENTS! BEST HIPHOP ALBUM IN 10 YEARS. I CAN'T NAME ONE BETTER.

    • gangstarrrrrrr

grodt? haha i hope thats trolling it would even be top 10 for this decade

    • BIG DEAL (rapper)

love nas my favorite it rapper but album of the decade is get rich or dye trying, then marshall matters, but this is on the list though

    • lDNiCEl32

actually wait no im lying Nas is my favorite rapper nd this album is an instant classic hes definately back to his old sick self but i hate to say this 50 Cent's Get Rich Or Die Tryin was the best album of the decade nd possibly one of the greatest of all time

  • Oust

I'm rating strictly on the provided songs in this review, no downloads here because I'm supporting this. I enjoyed every song. I played that My Generation a gang already. I'm not a fan of Lil Wayne, but he did justice to that track, but I don't agree with him having illest verse on the whole album or outshining Nas & Damien. Patience is tight, that chorus sounds trippy. I have high hopes for this album, as real as it gets.

  • MYLIE

i love africa and i love my afrcan brothers.

  • YUKI

There are so many reasons why this album deserves 5 stars or even more. 1.It would take another life for two great artist to combine and make such a good album(please do not mention jay-z and r kelly's best of both worlds and unfinished business). 2.Hate it or love it when you buy this alum most of you would not understand the message it sends.Even when you are dead. 3.It gets better with time, pure music at its best. 4.Great beats, great rhymes, uplifting songs. What more could you ask for?.I challenge anyone to name two artist that can attempt to do better than what these two have done.

  • ahuose

this is an absolutely incredible album...much so dat i really cant pick one favourite...from leaders to patience to in his own words to nahmean...africa must wake up....switches with the days. and how u clearly aired kelis out....damn son...we know she cheated but damn...shes raping u in court...u either need to just be on the humble or get a better lawyer!!! Support the artists and buy their music

  • corky831

absolute sick album....nas and damian sound in top notch.......production is tremendous

  • thizzle dance

-Add another original, creative 5/5 album to the catalogue of the best rapper alive. -recognize that the baddest man in reggae also has dope production skills and dope lyrics. -recognize the greatest hiphop collaboration album in a long time. ( i mean what other genre mixing collabo has ever worked this well?)

  • datruthphd

God ive seen better trolls on 4chan!! lol forreal if you wanna troll troll like you mean dont be all like "young money is ill" shit...yall trolls need to step yo game up smh

Nas and Damien Marley: DX Top Album Review Of The Month, top user rated album review of the month, most discussed album review of the month... Real hip hop lives!

  • ChildRebelSoldier

lol at the fact Wayne has the best verse on the album. I'll just keep playing Illmatic and Jamrock. I'll stick to Lupe, Blacksmith and Common for my modern day conscious rap.

    • MYLIE

THIZZLE DANCE thats verse was too much i neary got emotional and its amazing when a song can make you feel that way. classic album. BUY IT!!!!

    • thizzle dance

Wayne verse was impressive for him, but you are smoking crack if you think it was the best on the album. Damian: "Huh, Are we born not knowing, are we born knowing all? Are we growing wiser, are we just growing tall? Can you read thoughts? can you read palms? Huh, can you predict the future? can you see storms, coming? The Earth was flat if you went too far you would fall off Now the Earth is round if the shape change again everybody woulda start laugh The average man can’t prove of most of the things that he chooses to speak of And still won’t research and find out the root of the truth that you seek of Scholars teach in Universities and claim that they’re smart and cunning Tell them find a cure when we sneeze and that’s when their nose start running And the rich get stitched up, when we get cut Man a heal dem broken bones in the bush with the wet mud Can you read signs? can you read stars? Can you make peace? can you fight war? Can you milk cows, even though you drive cars? uh Can you survive, Against All Odds, Now?" and just a line from Nas: "If these are the last days, And hundred foot waves come crashin down, I'll get some hash in pounds Pass around some bud then watch the flood"

  • rob387

    NAS DEFINATELY SUCKS MAN DINGO

  • rob387

omg, the royce feature on this album sent it to another level, if only nas had any talent left to keep up with royce on that track. good effort tho 3 STARS

Just heard the preview... But I don't have any money to buy it. And I would feel guilty about dl'ing it.. Guess I'll do it the old fashion way and save up some cash. Just the preview left me speechless.

  • lazzy b

i dnt understand the concept of this album....if u ask me, its just a marketting scam by 2 artists trying to revive their career. FACE IT NAS ITS OVER FOR U!! SLAUGHTERHOUSE!!!!!!

  • DR Jam

Just fully pre-order this shit from Amazon. Nothing can be said about Nas, so that's a given. Damian is a musician not only at heart, but in soul and spirit; some may call it genetics, I call it passion and drive. Don't really want to read this review before I get the album. I don't outside opinions. But I'll get back read it, after a couple of playthroughs, like I do with most LPs I buy and that are reviewed here.

  • eraq

Man it's some real homos out there. Nas was a legend back in the days, but he just aiight now. This joint is straight. I give it to Nas for trying something different, but the end-result is not all that. I wasn't expecting much though either. I can't believe he found time for this, but not for the all DJ Premier produced joint. Ridiculous. Mastermind ... FOH! That whole Kelis situation makes a whole lot more sense now. I never thought I would say this, but Jay got the juice now Nas.

  • vannnnn

oh and im not a wayne fan by any means. but lets be real he killed his verse and it fits the album perfectly.

    • last702vegas

i can agree with you. but wayne always has to include himself in each verse. he would kill if he stop doing that habit.

    • TD.

calm down. I'm not a Wayne fan either but he did good and it's appropriate for the song 'my generation'

  • giggs

people need to stop dick-riding this just because its nas. face it, he sucked on this album.....he a coon

  • BK's Finest

This album sounds more like a Damian Marley's album feat Nas than a real collaboration. Not a bad thing. I'm not crazy about everything tho. Especially the beats cuz lyrically it's good from start to finish. The first song I really like is Leaders then I like Friends, Dispear, Land Of Promise, Patience, My Generation & Africa Must Wake Up... I don't like the rest of the album especially because of the productions... To me not a classic or a bomb, but a good lil album especially in this actual mainstream. 3.5/5

    • MYLIE

nas killed this album fakkit listen again..

  • ts5000

    this album is dope

  • Sucio Beats

Good shit so far.....I'm not liking the slow tempo of a lot of the tracks....It's like Nas slowed his verse for Damian. I would've liked to see more hip-hop sounding tracks on this EP. It sounds like it's a Damian Marley album featuring Nas in terms of music. Enjoy or not enjoy this album for the same reason, for it's content - musical and lyrical. Not because who's on it, or who isn't. Just listen.... Wayne's verse was ok for me on the My Generation track....I thought he was going to get ignorant like you hear all over the radio...But didn't......Props to Wayne for being conscious on this track. You don't have to like/dislike anything you hear, but respect the opinions of others... The comments are the reason why hip-hop will always be in the position it's in....Everyone hating on everyone else for every reason..... "Deep-rooted through slavery, self-hatred The Jewish stick together, friends in high places We on some low level shit We don't want niggaz to ever win" From "Carry on Tradition" from the Hip-hop is dead album. The more we separate ourselves (those of the hip-hop culture) from each other, the less we will grow as a culture.... Just saying, yall...

TIME magazine should do a cover story on this album. seriously. its that fuckin good. damian channels his father, and nas is spitting like every verse could be his last. if you downloaded it, and you feelin it, be a man and cop it. ima feel real good picking this up.

@Jersey Finest Kings - I agree you 100%. Too bad most of our people love to stay stuck in one spot. As soon as an artist tries to branch out, you get "Oh He Sold Out" or "He Fell off." They want Cube to make another AMW, Jay to Make another Reasonable Doubt, Nas another Illmatic, etc. A lot of Blacks love to stay pigeon-holed. im so tired of hearing people tell artists, especially Nas, to hop in a time machine and rhyme like he did when he wads 18 years old. Let an artist grow, damn. This album is dope 5/5
